I have an NCO sword and the scabbard from my passed away uncle. I am not sure how old it is but its is in mint condition gunny! if you are interested please comment back
Hell, if I found one I'd be tempted to GIVE IT to the man. I met him twice, and was on Mail Call with him once. Really good guy, funny as heck and nice as can be to his fans.
He's a Marine. I'm a Marine. I always will be.... I finally got my NCO Sword. In life, People get what they deserve.... To others, it may not be much, but to me it is everything.....Especially when deep down inside, you know you earned it....
i can imagine his face when he holds a weapon that someone hundreds of years ago held and possible used in combat. if anyone deserves to own or hold one its a guy like gunny.
there is one of those swords on ebay right now , the older style , with scabbard , you jsut have to be willing to trudge your way thru all the damn repros chinese guys put up on there.
@noearaujo Yes, he was a real marine. He enlisted en 1961. Was drill instructor from 1965 to 1967. Served in Vietnam in 1968. After that he served in okinawa and was medically retired in 1972 for several injuries incurred during his tours.
@banpiro He actually officially retired a St. Sgt I believe, not a Gunny, but after all the movies and all the trips he was taking to the Marines in combat, they went back and gave him Gunny. He still goes over to Iraq.
I bought a legit WWII Japanese officer from from my neighbor for $15. Yes, it is legit, we have had it appraised for approx. $350. I really hope Gunny has luck finding that sword.
@ken0is0gay0fan0club i think he was there as a consultant and they said he was too good and he might as well take the part. now LET ME SEE YOUR WAR FACE!!
@clap5 Ah yea there on there ( some times ) but if you go to a sword or blade convention they should have them there. Although there realy hard to find.
Oops just realized you put nco not commisioned officer lol my bad then yes the nco sword was from the 1812 war with Mexico I think , also a little trivia the dress blues originated from the Mexican army dress blues
@Kalrenbok The Scarlet Stripe, often called the Blood Stripe has been an official part of the uniform regulations for NCO's and Officers since 1859 and is said to commemorate the bloodshed by Marine officers and non-commissioned officers at the Battle of Chapultepec in Mexico in 1846. Therefore it is only worn by Corporals and above in the Marine Corps.
The officer sword was given to the lt by the ottomotan empire viceroy prince hamet during the the first Barbary wars , not Mexico ;) the ottomotans used the sword look from older scimmitars
Marines are the only branch where enlisted men are authorized to carry a sword. Marine NCO's carry an army officer sword (from the war with Mexico I think). Marine officers carry a sword patterned off the on given to Lt. O'Bannon.
Noncommissioned Officers or NCO's carry the Model 1859 sword but Commissioned Officers, 2nd Lieutenant and higher carry the Mameluke sword which you might have seen in most Marine commercials
First off, The Iraqi's aren't yelling "AIAIAIAIAIAIA" until after they are shot. They are yelling "Allah Akba" which means praise allah. And Marines don't yell Ooh Rah when we are fighting. Our swords are tradition.
if you watch Full Metal Jacket, when Hartman stands before Joker, Joker towers over him, but this is because Mathew Modine is 6 feet 5 inches tall. So is Adam Baldwin
You are incorrect. We say Hooah in the Army. Not Hoorah. Although Privates usually like to shorten it up and it sounds like and exagerated HUH when they say it. They like to say Sarnt too instead of Sergeant... I really dislike Privates.
i think "oorah" and "hooah" aint scary but the warcry used by the iraqees are kinda badass, cause nothing is scary than guy with a ak screaming"AIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIA"
I am enlisting to BECOME a Marine, you don't just join. Now kid I have a word of advice, if in two years you will be 18, how is it that your profile says that you are 27. The Corps. does not accept liars or cheaters, they require honor, dignity, and fidelity. Oh and for your information the battle cry is OO-RAH!
1800's wow... thats a while back. i got the modern nco sword. Dad won it at the Marine Corps ball a few years back. he actualy retired as a Gunny. Good luck with finding your sword Gunny! Semper Fi
He was just on the news on Yahoo for finding and depositing over $8000. Found a bank drop bag and went into the bank to deposit it where it belonged. Not really shocking with his upstanding beliefs. (He seemed more worried about the person who dropped it loosing their job.)
we should all chip in and find it for him. then Secretly Tranfer Equipment to Alternate Loacation ;)
