@noearaujo Yes, he was a real marine. He enlisted en 1961. Was drill instructor from 1965 to 1967. Served in Vietnam in 1968. After that he served in okinawa and was medically retired in 1972 for several injuries incurred during his tours.

@banpiro He actually officially retired a St. Sgt I believe, not a Gunny, but after all the movies and all the trips he was taking to the Marines in combat, they went back and gave him Gunny. He still goes over to Iraq.
