  • Ultra easy to make, four chords, simple lyrics, no melody, takes 5 seconds to write this kind of music

  • @ThechosenDemon doesnt stop it being good music

  • @AlexxxL94

Just makes it simplistic, generic and boring

  • @ThechosenDemon no, not necessarily- if it's generic, how many people like Emmy the Great have you heard in the charts?

  • @AlexxxL94

Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake...

  • @ThechosenDemon how can you compare Emmy the Great to Justin Bieber?

  • Sometimes when they sing they have similar voices, but they are both very different and very talented musicians. I love both Regina Spektor and Emmy the Great. :)

  • Saw her and met her a while ago. Shes great. Lyrics that are great. Inyense live and I love her stuff.

  • The Force is strong with this song.

  • Pretty, sweet girl with a lovely voice but why must they all be so very pretentious? The stop-animation video....

  • @job87meh opinions!

  • she's pretty cool

  • i love emmy i hope shes smart enought to realize she has a friend in cordoba argentina who's willing to do everything to see her!

  • cool

  • ANTI-FOLK FTW

  • really good lyrics! ^^ it´s remind me a lot of things...

  • <3!

  • Love this sonngggg!!!

  • good song. now come on over and check out my channel

  • This woman! She is something very very special!

    Wonderful x

  • Is it just me or is the version on the record slower?

  • <3 Emmy

  • Addicted to her wonderful vioce. Got "first love" from on itunes free give away a few weeks ago? Didn't like the beginning so never listened to it much. But I can't stop now xD

  • same as me....word for word!!

  • im in love with her :)

  • i've seen her live :)

she was supporting kate nash when i saw her,

i had no idea who she was, she wasn't even introduced but i love her !

  • I mean no offense to Kate Nash because she is a great artist but I swear there will be a day when she will be supporting Emmy the Great.

  • It's kind of sad that she doesn't get more recognised, byt then again it's good because it means she doesn't become over played radio one dross

  • her singing is really unique i like it!

  • my favourite emmy the great song. love it. <3

  • Likewise!

  • i love videos like thsi they are so clever they always make me want to try but i always fail. :)

  • Have to completely disagree, i'd listen to Emma over Regina any day of the week, not even sure why you felt the need to compare the two...

  • this girl is nothing like regina, you are right.

they are incomparable, basically a completely different musical genre, she is very talented in her own right.

  • I LOVE REGINA!!!!

but i love emmy for different reasons, more simplistic....real songs if you get me

  • Eh?

  • I'm a huge fan of this :-)

Really looking forward to the newcastle show in a few weeks

  • i played this song through my pack of swans and it sounded like aerosmith live at the apollo

  • no u

  • She is such a sweetie, a little songbird. :)

  • One of the best lyricists melodically and poetically in the trade. I found her in Tilly and the Wall's myspace top 8 in 06'. "Secret Circus" blew me a way. I'd never heard anything quite like that before. The poetry was dense but went well with the music. And she's also a good reason for me to put on my glasses.

  • I saw her in Vigo three weeks ago 1 hour before the show walking alone.I told to my friend "nice girl"and later she was in the theater singing this lovely music.thanks

  • Chatwins93. not picking on you soz. It got lost in the thread.

  • mmmm just lovely

  • I'm as working class as they come, the old man was a docker and all his family were.

I found this and don't see the point of your argument

What are you apppear to say is the working class should not be exposed to this or it will erode their 'Mary Poppins' like charm either that or the working class are too stupid to appreciate music like this.

Everyone is an individual and if you don't realise that it is you who are the elitest.

  • what the hell i didn't even say anything about class. Who cares it's just a nice song from a great musician

  • Incredibly beautiful.

  • It's all very middle class isn't it?

  • That's a bit elitest.

And bearing in mind it's 2008 what are you doing harking back to class.

I just looked at the beauty of it.

  • The class system in Britain is very much alive, you don't hear this playing in the workies do you? It's a fair point even if you don't agree with it.

  • as apposed to where? do they play it in burlingtons?

  • I hope so.

  • They DO play Chopin, Strauss and Vivaldi. What else? You condescending fuck.

  • Ach Balls. Yes a bit pretentious but as near as I can get being a prol without picking the peas up with a knife.

  • That's what I mean. Haha, you should see their interviews;

"So what genre would you put your band in?"

"erm.. I'm not sure.. like.. indie?"

  • I agree. It was middle class youth that lead the student revolution of the 60's and from whom flowed a great deal of the artistic impulse. Whatever problem someone might have with EtG's music it is most assuredly a matter of style and taste. As far as for the quality of her writing, there are very that can match her in depth and skill. I hate to resort to saying this but I think she's over a lot of folks's heads. In a good way.

  • "over a lot of folks' heads".. oh dear.. get a grip. The only reason you dont like it is because you dont understand it. probably one of the most pathetic things resorted to in internet arguments

  • emmy is amazing

  • Beautiful song. Loving the angelic vocals alongside the blunt, hard truth of reality as well.

  • she's amazing.

  • where are these regina spektor comparisons coming from?! they are completely different.

but yeah, i agree with the leonard cohen comment, all the beautiful stories she weaves into songs aren't too dissimilar to masterpieces like the stranger song, or one of us cannot be wrong.

  • she has a tiny hint of Regina Spektor in voice and singing, and she has a little look of Alexa Chung in her, so yeah she sounds good and is hot too :P

  • Directed by George Lucas? Where are the lightsabers? Seriously though, nice vid, awesome song. Can't wait for the album.

  • haha

  • @Mattskimo0 hahaha i was just thinking that xD

  • I know some people might consider it too much of a leap, but if she reminds me of anyone, it would be someone like Leonard Cohen. Just these amazing lyrics that rise up over everything, the music backing it up doesn't even matter so much...

  • Her title track for the album she's eventually gonna release is called First Love and it's got 'hallelujahh' in it. As well as the line 'the original leonard cohen version'. It's on youtube. Check it out.

  • after seeing the set at bestival, they are new new favorite band

  • Mate when did she get videos?

She's been amazing like all five times I've seen her. I love her.

  • emmy is amazing. but what pisses me off is that where i come from noone has heard of her, so they expect her to be crap. but shes

    not

  • So good looking...

  • hahahahahhaha

  • i disagree completely. emmy is damn original . regina and emmy's vocal styling are vastly different . as for the music i suppose one could compare it to regina as well as countless others. regina didnt break the mold and start some revolution. even though i am a huge regina fan .

  • oh wow....have you even listened to regina spektor or emmy at all?...you just sound dumb when you say stuff like that. just fyi.

  • oh man. this girl is so good. i can't fault her!

  • I think I'm in love with Emmy.

  • amazing

  • im in love

  • Or, you know, don't. Far too much music these days is derivative in one way or another- people keep trying to imitate the 60s and 70s. Led Zep were a good band (until they went crazy and did massive rambling jam sessions that sound like shit unless you're high), but not everyone has to sound like them to be good.

  • Actually I find Robert Plant's wailing annoying sometimes, and wish he'd just carry a damn tune properly, because I know he can, because he does it on other songs. =P Haven't read/heard that interview though, whereabouts was it?

And what's wrong with music being "pretty"? Music is just music! =) Take it too seriously and you get pretty twisted around.

  • it's lovely...

  • i'm addicted to this now

i can't stop listening to this

  • emmy is great and so is george/lucas

  • Brilliant. Beautiful. Amazing.

    ZOMG!! I love it!!

  • i want to marry her

    !!

  • song is good, but i feel there are 3 concepts in this video and u couldnt decide wich to use so u used them all.

like the shots of emmy watchin tv, looks pretty glossy.

    JC

  • really like it but can't feeling it never erally got off the ground, you should've kept rolling the dice a bit longer..

  • Fantastic

    *Wonders what Bella thinks*

  • Where are you from? I really really LOVE this song it has made a whole in my heart. XxXxX

  • beautiful

  • i really like that song

  • Wow, awesome song and vid.
