One of the best lyricists melodically and poetically in the trade. I found her in Tilly and the Wall's myspace top 8 in 06'. "Secret Circus" blew me a way. I'd never heard anything quite like that before. The poetry was dense but went well with the music. And she's also a good reason for me to put on my glasses.

I agree. It was middle class youth that lead the student revolution of the 60's and from whom flowed a great deal of the artistic impulse. Whatever problem someone might have with EtG's music it is most assuredly a matter of style and taste. As far as for the quality of her writing, there are very that can match her in depth and skill. I hate to resort to saying this but I think she's over a lot of folks's heads. In a good way.

Or, you know, don't. Far too much music these days is derivative in one way or another- people keep trying to imitate the 60s and 70s. Led Zep were a good band (until they went crazy and did massive rambling jam sessions that sound like shit unless you're high), but not everyone has to sound like them to be good.

Well I wouldn't have mentioned Zep if it weren't for the fact that in a recent interview when asked about them, Emmy said they were "pretty".

And that's the kind of mentality that's ruining music. Robert Plant's vocal range transcends time; and the voices of the women I mentioned come close. Emmy's voice doesn't and won't, because just doing something "pretty" is not enough.
