You talk about the information that can be leaked by Jailbreaking and using tweaks and themes but that goes for anything. The hackintosh you build may have security flaws. You don't know who edited the OS.Jailbreaking is not bad,it's partly reverse engineering!
@Aton1xiDevice Jailbreaking modifies the OS, whereas a hackintosh simply uses a bootlaoder that allows it to boot. The OS isn't modified at all. In fact, it's installed right from the DVD or App Store image that Apple provides. There's a huge different between a hackintosh and jailbreaking.
@cpukid00 Usually, those who are new to Jailbreaking have issues.Anything that is released for the first time has bugs and you should be more concerned with Social networks like FaceBook tracking you then a mod that a developer put in a theme or tweak to steal information.BTW..Saurik,Owner of Cydia, pays hundreds of thousands to run the servers everyone uses for free,so its neccessary that some people charge for the work. Most tweaks and themes are cheap. You're referring 2 high-end mods.
nice rant i agree jailbreaking takes some nerves of steel sometimes.. however i will add that if u find yer crashing.freezing a lot.. like all the time.. as u stated, then it may be because of a collision of apps as i call it.. some cydia apps reacting badly with others.. i find that winterboard is brutal for it. i unistalled it then again im not sure its ios5 ready yet anyways that said i did notice it screwed up more after installing certain cydia apps.. go back unistall the last 1 u installed
Apple forces people to buy new iDevices by releasing firmware to newer devices,so when you think about the dollars charged for tweaks and themes ask yourself how much you spend on a new device because you can't use a firmware's features.Apple doesn't approve Jailbreaking because it kills their marketing. They like to release things through a longer time span. Why release iMessaging and FaceTime together. One gimmick per year! I love Apple but Jailbreaking is totally worth it!
Hey!! I had LOADS of spring board crashes, and basically its because some things you have installed aren't compatible with ios 5, You have certain apps installed that don’t play nice together, A recent app update is causing the crashes, or You installed a bad app from an untrusted repository.... So I fixed all of these, and NOW ITS RUNNNG AMAZING
@tekgorilla I don't know what I installed that's not compatible. The only tweaks I installed were Notification Center tweaks, BiteSMS, and a system UI sound. I didn't go crazy installing a bunch of random tweaks.
@cpukid00 Yeah so did I, but one flaw of Cydia is that it lets you download things without checking compatibility with you're firmware. Did you check them all?
@tekgorilla Well the notification center tweaks must have been for iOS 5 since that's the only version of iOS that has it. BiteSMS was for iOS5 as well. The only thing that possibly wasn't was my UI sound theme. Those are the only tweaks that I had installed. However, the crashing was only one of the reasons that I decided to restore. I'm happy to be back on official firmware.
I jailbroke my iPhone 4S the day the jb was released. Since then, my phone has been running the same. I think you saying "it isn't the experience Apple wants you to have" is a false statement. Apple has taken many ideas from jailbreak tweaks and hasn't given any credit.
@pspfano Yes, some jailbreaking ideas have inspired current iOS features. However, these tweaks I'm referring to in the video aren't official or approved by Apple. Unless Apple officially includes them in the OS, they are prone to many more bugs. My phone needs to function correctly. If I had an iPod Touch, then I'd mess with it more. I simply need a reliable phone.
I jailbroke my 4s for the first time, and only had it crash once or twice... But It was awesome when I first did it, but now its just getting old, so I'll probably restore soon.
Best video I have seen on the subject of Jailbreaking. Agreed on all points. If someone wants to got that route I think what the really want is an android device that looks like an iPhone.
@dragonballjiujitsu Android has infringed on a lot of Apple's patents. For the average person,Android is too difficult to use.People from as young as life will allow up past 50 years of age use iDevices.
@dustinsyoutoob That is completely different. I don't have the issues on my computer like I do on iOS. Installing OSX on pc hardware doesn't involve modifying the OS, unlike jailbreaking. If I got the issues I have with jailbreaking on my computer then you bet I wouldn't use it. However, the OS functions perfectly, unlike the iOS jailbreak.
you needed to real jb because i have a 4 and a 4s jailbroken on 5.0.1 and i use bitesms on my 4 and it crashes like once a week, but the 4s doesn't crash at all, maybe its bitesms
i have a iphone 3g and a 4, i jailbroke 3g for the features the 4 has, but havnt jailbroken the 4 no point, i like what apple gave me, yes there are things missing, but i beleive apple will give them to us one day, e.g. Copy & paste....
@aczajka74 no Apple declared it illegal. it SHOULD be illegal. then again there is no reason why there should even be a jailbreak. Who cares about an extra menu option
@ImTheSeekr Well there are two flaws in what you are saying 1) apple cant just go around saying things are illegal and 2) the reason why jailbreaking is not illegal is because once you purchase a device you are free to modify it in any way, The thing that is illegal is not the jailbreak in itself but if you use things that get you free paid apps and songs that is illegal but to just have a jailbreak to use tweaks and things just to make your iOS experience better it is not illegeal.
@aczajka74 there is one flaw in what u are saying 1) u CANT modify anything u own... its illegal to modify a cap gun to shoot real bullets... shitty example, but u get it.
@ImTheSeekr Oh I'm sorry you can modify anything that you purchase as long as it doesn't physically harm anybody, jail breaking doesn't physically harm anyone
@aczajka74 true... but still, i'd much rather not jailbreak an iOS device, if i ever got one, they're too expensive, and that might ruin it, and I already got my first warning from my ISP about infringing copyright. Stupid SOPA
@musclemoney1991 no, just because u bought your house doesnt mean u can trash it... just because u bought a gun doesnt mean u can murder someone with it... just because u bought a computer doesnt mean u can hack the US military databases with it.
@ImTheSeekr actually if i bought a house i could do anything to it, if i wanted to set it on fire I could or take a hammer to every window I could or take a shit on the kitchen floor I could and nobody could do a dam thing about it, and if someone attacked me or broke into my house I trashed I could shoot them.
@ImTheSeekr not illegal, apple took it to court and lost so it is legal but apple took another measure and that was to make jailbreaking void ur warranty. so not illegal but voids ur warranty with apple.
Tweaks that use a lot of resources or tweaks that are old will make your iPhone unstable. I have jailbroken all of the iDevices that I have / had. Back when iOS was in 2.x.x to 3.1.2 was the best jailbreak time. After iOS 4 jailbreaking became more unstable and Apple added a lot more features making jailbreaking seem useless. I just have it jailbroken to I can test apps and stuff on it. And you can just install Sinfull iPhone repo if you want free stuff if you're that kind of guy.
What tool did you use Redsnow or Greenpoison? I'v jailbroken my iPhone 4s with redsnow and it works perfectly! Also ALOTT of tweaks and apps like Winterboard are very glitchy!! also if you add sources like hack repo or xSellize, most apps that charge are free and they are updated often, the only thing I agree is with the security and such.
Things that make you crash are probably tweaks or Apps that haven't been updated to iOS 5. although the team did test out there Jailbreak, and works perfectly fine on me. it's just the matter of updating Apps and tweaks.
I feel your pain cpukid, I've been a jailbreaker for sometime now & been loving it. But recently when upgrading my iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 I had some of the same problems you did. My SB seemed not to use graphics acceleration & lagged, the phone would crash @ random etc. So, not giving up I jailbroke a second time & made sure to use only iOS5 updates from Cydia & had no problems since. Give it another try, but be careful as to what you're installing from cydia…
I dont have a 4s but i have a 4. I havent jailbroken it because i had a 3g before this that was jailbroken and i felt the same as you, there are way too many bugs. It ruins the user experience that apple has created.
Also, I've jailbroken my cousin's iphone 4s three days ago and she just bought it. And it's running perfectly fine. Like I said, jailbreaking won't crash your iDevice, at least I haven't come across this issue yet :)
cpukid00, don't worry, man. It's just about the tweaks and mods being compatible with iOS 5x. I have an iphone 4 and I've restored to the ofw for the same reasons you have. There was this tweak that tells you where phone calls reach you from which country by its country code. It wasn't iOS 5 compatible and even if I just resprung, my iphone just crashed and stuck on the apple logo. Then I restored once again, jailbroke my iphone and everything works just fine.
I am still enjoying my Windows Phone 7, but I may have to switch to iPhone at some point because the connector software for Mac is useless there isn't much I can do with it, is basic and limited and too many problems. The only other way would be to use a separate Windows XP machine with Zune on which I am doing now. Shame the iPhone didn't have a 4.3 screen like my HD7.
@coukid00 which steps did you take to restore your phone my brother has a older 3gs that is jailbroken and he wants to update to 5.0.1. I have found one on the internet, that involves customising the ROM and then restoring at the end, is this the right one?
Make a video on how to do a complete restore of your iPhone 4s back to factory settings from being jail broken please! :) I looked up guides on how to do it but I ended up bricking my phone doing it so I I finally got out of the brick but Can't get rid of jailbreak please make a vid? :)
@RageDesignsGFX That's what I tried. This is what I did exactly: plugged in my iPhone 4s went to iTunes clicked on restore and it went through the whole thing once It went through the reboot process it wouldn't boot backup hense "Bricked"
what apps did you have installed i have had my iphone 4s jailbroken and all my other iphones in the past and have never had any problems with random crashes if it crashes it was usually caused by a tweak i had just installed and then i know that the tweak doesnt work and then i uninstall it. I love me a jailbroken iphone :D
Just to be clear, I have never experienced a random kernel panic or springboard crash and have not had a single problem with the iPhone 4S jailbreak, except for the simple fact of some tweaks and apps just not being build for iOS 5. thats my take on that
Um.. Jailbroken, biggest bugger/lagger/springboard crasher is winterboard, when its not installed everything is fine.
