no it is not that the numbers that go to zero are the most important its that they are just as important the numbers that iterate forever because if the were no zeroed out numbers than there would be no contrast in the fractal no frame for the picture or background for the figure, basically if there was not the duality of an infinite number and a finite number the mandelbrot set would be textureless, nothing, all things are known by contrast up implies down the same way infinity implies finite

Actually its probably more accurate to call this recursion, not iteration. Iteration is equivalent to recursion, but is more broad (not necessarily talking about functions.)

Iteration relies upon the state of some system whereas recursion can represent pure functions.
