  • man if people didnt give tesla a bad rep, he would make his coil even better and by now we could charge our phones and stuff without plugging in

  • thats what i want my mad scientist room to look like

  • That's in your house :o

  • That's a freakin awesome spark-gap. I'm assuming that's a spark-gap.

  • your coil needs fine tuneing.. you have it vary tuned but when you turn off the motor and it allowed the caps to fully charge made 2x as big arcs.. turn your motor way down .. maby better

  • TESLA THE BIG SERBIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CCCC

  • awesome!!! how many power does it have?? maybe 2kW or more i think. Or maybe it is very well sintonized...

  • it sounds angry...

  • nice spark gap can I see it?

  • @randomsrvapps anywhere from 2000 to 15000 volts

  • Anyone; at what voltage can I use to make a basic tesla coil?

  • @12swordmaster anything above 1500 volts input

  • how many BPS?

  • holy crap thats asome!!!!

  • what capacitors you use here?

  • Someone has been playing to much red alert 2

  • How many volts and amps does your transformer give out and what type is it?

  • This is why you should stay away from a Tesla Coil in RA3......Just saying.

  • Is that motor Asyncronous or are you adjusting it?

  • sounds like formula 1!

  • so cool~!

  • I love watching this video, you have this coil nicely tuned

  • Nice spark gap!

  • uh, duh buttpirates, does anyone even remember how much power these babies ate up in Red Alert? that guys electric bill must be huge!

  • actually the transfomer this guy is using uses less juice then a microwave

  • Tonybman, red alert is a video game, things can be fake. We don't have banshees like in halo!

  • @TonyBMan not really.. its the same as pluging in a neon sign and a small motor.. they are vary efficiant things

  • Maybe it's possible, but I think it would be impractical. Think about it; electricitry doesn't know friend from foe. It'll just zap the first thing to come near it, be that an enemy soldier or you own.

  • And plus all you have to do is mount a lightning rod to your veichal and ground the rod and you are safe.

  • @Akainotsumi the electricity coming out is radio waves, harmless to human touch. Learn about it before you speak.

  • Is it possible to use these as defense weapons like on the game red alert like if a tank or soilder comes up they get zapped?

  • No, not really. It will not damage anyone permanently. Unless of course you make a huge one, which will maybe burn you badly or mess your nerves up. A small one could damage you, but rather unlikely. It is totally impractical either way.

On future weapons on the discovery channel, they showed a solid state Tesla coil as a weapon, but it will not actually hurt you. You will likely feel next to nothing.

  • @SuperDieMaxx they do not carry much current at all.. tank would be unfased at all and human would be more afrade of it than what it will do to them as in thats pritty safe to tuch if you really wanted to.. hurt like hell tho

  • nice coil !!

  • ..and in walks the cat...*

  • what is the capacitance

  • judging on its arc size i would say about 20000V... althought not so sure i made one with 2 AC cap's and it turned out great instead of using paper capacitors.

  • i see your magnifier in the background to the left have you finished it yet

  • Forgot to mention, a very nice design by the way! Absolutely a nice piece of craftsmanship, and I am sure a lot of time and thought (as well as money), went into it.

  • What is that, about 32" streamers? And how exactly did you build the spark gap system? Any reason it is so far outside the assembley? Just curious is all, I am experimenting with a few designs of my own, so I do like to ask questions. Cheers

  • I'm so going to put two of these in front of my house to keep those pesky engineers from capturing and selling my refinery >:(

  • looks awesome man, love the rotating spark gap.Are you using a strike rail over your primary?

  • Nice arcs for that size coil, I love the spark gap.

  • vay aq

  • wow is it real how can you get this power.

  • red alert tesla coil

  • Were can you get these at because my dad and I are going to build one of these!

  • Cool, the 30fps from the video camera allows you to see the spark gap approach synchronous state.

  • ITS GONNA BLOW

  • It looks like its flailing arms around to grab somthing that conducts

  • All hail Tesla the genius!

  • Nice one!

  • bravo TESLA eh da te neprevari govnovic jp morgan koliko bi nam zivot bio jos napredniji

  • how much ultraviolet is that rotary switch producing? looks like an arc welder! it sounds damn cool tho

  • Tesla + slomo = pretty fucking bad ass.

  • Can I ask what is the use of Tesla Coil?

  • A tesla coil is an air core, high voltage resonant transformer. Lightening effects in such films as Terminator 2 and X-men were produced by Tesla Coils.

  • dont froget Malestrom @ disneyworld

  • SPecial Effects

  • tesla coil was the life's work of a scientist by the name of Tesla (go figure!). He believed in arcing electricity and freeing us of wires.

  • no you can't.:) lol entertainment.were first used as energy transmission devices by Nicola Tesla

  • Holy shit, I always loved high voltage stuff and this vid just ROCKS it´s AWESOME. I also love that rotatory spark gap lol.

  • What's the purpose of the spark gap?

  • the spark gap is a high voltage 'switch' . Once the primary capacitors have sufficient charge, the voltage jumps the gap connecting them to the primary winding.

  • what's he trying to do? blow himself up?

  • He cant blow himself up with this, unless he is covered in petrol/gasoline and the sparks ignite the fuel. In fact, under the right conditions a person could touch the top part of that and have sparks fly out of their body and not feel a thing of be hurt in anyway. This is because high frequency AC electric power flows OVER the skin, not through flesh.

  • the skin effect is only true for conductors. The reason why you don't *feel* a thing is because the resonant frequency of most tesla coils is not in the range of frequencies human muscles respond to.

  • Holy shit,that looks dangerous.

  • echt geile funkenstrecke ^^

    respekt!

  • he never had kids, his name isnt nicholas, and you smell bad.

  • Is you smarts like he be?

  • lol its t3h command and conquer

  • I laughed... :')

  • But Tesla was asexual...

  • Awesome coil, man.

Yeah, I did catch a few primary strikes. Strike rail would be good precaution I think...

  • I was wondering too...as RBMK said, the streamers seemed to be striking the primary. Do you use a strike rail? It's hard to tell from the video...my 8 segment static gap is 500 times louder than that rotary too - thinking about designing one. What do you use for a tank cap? I'm still using a GG bucket cap from 3 yrs ago with no probs...just gotta dump out the CuSO4 that forms periodically! And what is your powerplant? MOT's most likely, from the ferocity of those streamers!

    Great coil! :)

  • Hey ! The Rotating Spark gap looks pretty awesome to ! Looks like something is accelareting in lightspeed ^^

But the Spark's hit the Primary coil ! That's highly dangerous !!!!

  • very impressive! can i lick it?

  • sure

  • Great coil, and nice vid :-)

  • is it true a tesla coil can get its energy from a AA battery?

  • andate a la mierda pelotudo, ¿Como vas a pensar eso?

  • thats one pissed off machine

  • badass machine :)

  • awesome, wonder how long it'll be before something like this is developed into a weapon...

  • uh... Never heard of a tesla coil?

  • lol try avoiding to burn your house down while youa re at it

  • Damn,I can smell the ozone. Nice project.

  • Fittingly, the sound of its power increasing kind of reminds me of the Chronosphere powering up.

  • Nasty!

    Very nice! Good job!

  • Sweeet coil dude!

You've done a great job on it!

  • That got dangerously close to over-powering itself! The motor sound seemed about to burst, and the secondary coil was pure light! Wow!

  • Very nice job =)

  • Keep up the good work.

  • respect, great work! nice hobby :)

  • Hugely impressive dude,I bet the room stank of ozone for a while eh

  • When will these be available to the general public for FREE ENERGY? I know big oil and big electric companies don't want us to know about this!

  • God you idiot, it's a tesla coil, not a Joecell...

  • What is wrong with you? there is nothing "free" about the energy in that coil

  • Dare you to touch it !

  • OMG I hope you know, that this is highly illegal!

Try turning on a TV in a hundred meters range.

You also need the broadcasting rights for specific radio frequencies, cause this messes a whole lot with it!

  • Tesla coils are not illegal in the United States.

  • why turn on a TV?

  • And how long is the spark?...plz

  • "waowwwww cool!!but do you know whay pettle"

    Amazing...

  • wow! That is so cool! I would love to see a swarm of flys released there. hehehe
