Since when were spiderman games known to suck? I mean, he hasn't had a whole lot of great games, but he's got those two PS1 games and Spiderman 2. That game kicked major ass.
I think a 3/5 is a reasonable score. Personally, a 4/5 is what I'd give it in terms of combat. Noboby's a fan of the upgrade system that has been in almost every Spidey game in history. Aside from that, this game was awesome. It would be a 5/5 for me, BUT the Amazing Allies Edition for PS2 and PSP were just...bad. Would've been better off being a flash game on Newgrounds.
I loved going next to civilians while they're shouting "You're the best!" and a second later you want to show them a different costume so put on the Symbiote and they run for the hills.

@RorschachAvenger They didn't put nearly enough quality into the game as they did for other consoles. It is a side to side style like mario which is a bad idea for a Spider-Man game since you can't swing around the city and explore, and the dialogue has no voices, just text boxes.
This game was fucking awesome, but the problem for me was that when Prototype finally came out, I was goddamn pissed. Seriously, Prototype was like S:WoS with blood and less fun movement. I felt like I was playing a rehash, couldn't even finish it. Even the story was a rip off.
@essboarder23 The trailers can come out whenever they want, it's the release of the game that matters. I understand what you're saying, but the similarities go way too far for me. The basic plot with the virus, the story proression, the "events" scattered around the map, the movement, the skill progression, the combat (even down to ripping moves blatantly, like the enemy "surfing")...seriously, it was just too much.
@simplytragic they both r awesome except the fact of prototypes story which paying attention as hard as i can was still good but hard to get. i cant remember the spider man story though
I really enjoyed this game. It helped tide me over before Prototype(which I absolutely love). My only complaints were some of the voice acting, the script was bad, the camera sometimes, it needed more mission variety, the music glitches, and slow down in the 3rd act.
Combat and swinging were the highlights of this game. So satisfying. Boss fights were very fun and switching between the red and black suit was great as they differed from each other.
i agree with the score, but i think that she should've gone into more detail. it's not just "bugs" that screw up the game. what keeps the game from being great is the monotony, and the half-cruddy combat controls

The first trailer for prototype came out in August 2007.
The first trailer for Web of Shadows (i can find) was from october 2008.
Personally, I don't think either was a rip off of the other.
Similarities doesn't necessarily mean they purposely copied each other.
