I don't like it though that they left out the part where Supes and WOndy hug. They don't kiss mind you like husband and wife, jsut hug like brother and sister. It was very heartwaming in the comic.
I always think what would have happened if wonder woman threw the black mercy on superman again who was on the ground winded, cause mongul just stepped aside.
Oh Bruce... Those "memories" must have been very hard to let go of. I know that Clark lost his whole world, but he wasn't there to see it at least. Bruce watched his parents bleed out in an alley.
@BlackMaskStudios, Why do Batman fans always say that Batman's was sadder? Are you kidding me? Batman knows how to handle his lose. Superman lost his world, everything and everyone he's ever loved all in one grasp. That's sadder.
@Chimera1591 You're right about losing your planet, it would be horrible. You were wrong on one thing.Batman SUCKS at handling loss. My point was that Superman didn't actually see it happen, but he DID learn about the past later. Bruce, even though it was just two people, felt guilt over the deaths because his insistence on his
mom wearing pearls was what got them mugged in the first place. Maybe not sadder, but harder to let go off because of the guilt. He saw redemption of himself in those memories. I definitely see your point though.
@BlackMaskStudios, Don't get me wrong, Bruce's loss is tragic. But you're not valuing what this team tried to do with this story. I thought it was a way to show the brotherly bond between the two characters. All both characters want is a family, both they're two of the greatest characters in comics because if both of them had what their hearts desired the world wouldn't know the two greatest characters in the genre. If Krypton lived, no Superman. If the Wayne's lived, no Batman.
@Chimera1591 Yeah it definitely is showing the bond those two have (though Bruce'd probably kill himself before admitting to it) and I didn't mean to disrespect the team's efforts. This episode had me in tears for Superman, so I'm not really sure why I commented about how tough Batman has it. Both characters have tragic pasts that should be considered as well as the team's efforts to explore said pasts and the bond it creates between people.
@Chimera1591 Cuz they're Batman fans..? lol. Anyway I actually do see Batman's loss as worse. Think about it: Superman never knew of his past until he got older. He was raised happily with a family and grew to love them and they even lived to his adulthood. Sure he was adopted, but they were more or less a real family. Batman on the other hand knew his parents lived in comfort and his innocence was destroyed the day his parents were murdered. Think of how psychologically damaging it's to a kid.
@banan14kab, In Superman's mind, he was born and raised on Krypton and he'd known these people for the majority of his life. He even said when Van was first born he held his hand and never wanted to let go. Superman has been raising this child his whole life. Also, don't forget that even though Clark was raised by the Kents, he's alway felt like an outsider. And when he found out he wasn't human he felt even more isolated.
@banan14kab Who had the more tragic "real" past? Batman. Who suffered more at the hands of the Black Mercy? Probably Superman. Batman was under the trance for, what, 10 minutes? Superman was under the trance for hours, maybe days. His mind was duped into believing an entire lifetime's worth of perfection, only to see it totally collapse in a short while.
Also, in the context of the original story, the illusion that Superman lived through and the loss was more devastating than Batman's.
Oh yeah don't worry you're spot on there guy, it's quite a commonly used scream... just much less common to be used as a sound effect for a weapon <_< then again, TIE fighters had that iconic scream when maneuvering.. funny considering it's in, well, space (it's the rule of cool though)
I was under the impression that the Wilhelm scream is the short, cheesy scream used when worthless baddies die, and the TIE Fighter scream was much longer.
Why didnt super man kill him? What are they going to do with him, hes still alive anyone bad can jus snatch that thing off of him. If batman can anyone can he is human.
I didn't realize the music when Krypton blows up in Superman's dream is very similar to the piece when Krypton blew up in the Superman animated series. Nice work.

@slhone seriously though, in the first eps he was in he got thrashed by superman and got ko'd by that other alien guy. but here he demolishes ww and holds his own against superman while acting all nonchilant. even batman seems to think hell destroy the world or something. its just a big difference from what was show in his previous appearance.
@suicidalxsamurai He was always this powerful (at least in the comic books), as there are other alien species in the DC universe who are inherently durable and powerful, (and not having to rely on a specific wavelength of solar radiation to be this strong)...BUT it seems that Kryptonians have the widest array of 'Supertraits' if they have their Yellow radiation.
The Justice league is filled with characters which are troubled in a way. Superman is an orphaned extraterrestrian from an extinct world. Batman was an orphaned millionarie. Wonder Woman was an Amazon who was at some point banished from her land. The Flash was afraid that his apeen would backfire on him. The Martian Manhunter was the only survivor of his race. Shayera was a traitor. And John Stuart was afraid that he would become just and extention of his power ring.

@TheWorstWorlock that Isn't true not ever kryptonian was wiped out supergirl is alive and superboy is a clone of superman and that makes him related to both since supergirl is his cousin
@killakay251 As far as this series went, Supergirl is alive only because she was on Krypton's sister planet, Argo. And she was the ONLY survivng Kryptonian then.
I didn't realize that the music when Superman's world destroys itself is the SAME theme as when krypton dies in the first episode of Superman: TAS! Awesome!
@mrd456 I disagree. I bet somewhere in the world before I'm done typing, this hundreds of kids will be orphaned, due to war, famine, disease, crime, or simple bad luck (and how many of them are the heir to a billion dollar fortune, I wonder?). Superman is truly alone, though. His entire species was wiped out. He's not even distantly related to any Earth person, for god's sake
@TheWorstWarlock Money won't stop the bullets from murdering his parents in front of his eyes, surely won't restore the happiness he had with his parents at young age, nor stop the countless nightmares and trauma he suffers from that memory. Superman was born with a happy family and didn't know his planet was destroyed until he was older. Batman had to live with anger, hate, fear, and sorrow for the majority of his life. Like he said, "I haven't been a kid since I was 8."
@batman3456 I'm not saying money makes up for his parents murder, but at least he was financially secure, several times over. Everyone grows up feeling different,as though no one understands what they're going through. In Superman's case, it's literal. Everyone has "what if?" moments, well Superman must get them a lot. What if Krypton never blew up? What would he be? What were his parents like?
@mrd456 I disagree. I bet somewhere in the world before I'm done typing this, hundreds of kids will be orphaned, due to war, famine, disease, crime, or simple bad luck (and how many of them are the heir to a billion dollar fortune, I wonder?). Superman is truly alone, though. His entire species was wiped out. He's not even distantly related to any Earth person, for god's sake.
@mrd456 Bruce relives that day every day, he does it so that he will never quit, never relent, never stop. Bruce/batman is the saddest and yet the most inspiring hero Dc has ever came out with. A man "even tho its fiction" that took the most awful, terrible thing that could happen to any child and used it to make himslef a true champion, sacrifacing all his tommorows, all his possible happiness, his very life so that no one would ever have to suffer again.
I remember this comic, it was written by Alan Moore. They changed a few things around. Robin was supposed to be in this, and Mongul fantasizes about him taking over the world. And Batman's dream ended up when he got married to someone.
The former ROBIN Jason Todd (now the villain/antihero RED HOOD) saved the day in that comic and Batman dreamed about being married to Kathy Kane (BATWOMAN, now a lesbian in post crisis continuity).
In Mongul's dream you can see him ruling the universe, BRAINIAC in his robotic form kneeling in front of him, by using a giant spaceship called WARWORLD (some kind of a Deathstar knockoff).
i found that this episode is probably the most shocking display of batman's psychology. He is so badly scarred by his childhood that even in his perfect world he never ever moves past the alley. Where as superman dreams up an entire life for himself, its as though batman isn't even able to imagine what could be if his parents were alive.
although 'perchance to dream' does point to the contrary...
@Joker365 Perhaps his personality was slowly hardening, not like it wasn't already hardened in the first place of course. You look at what he's become psychologically in Batman Beyond. I remember Bats was engaged to Selena Kyle in his dream in "Perchance to Dream". Assuming 10-20 yrs or so in the timeline from 'then' til 'now', the hopes for a normal life fading away and the reality truly sinking in as the years go by, his dreams have taken this bent. My armchair pyschoanalysis lol
Notice that in batman's dream, the mugger has his voice. I wonder if that means Bruce made his voice sound like the scariest thing he could imagine, the guy who killed his parents... or perhaps they didn't have anyone else to voice the mugger in the studio....
Aww man I can't explain how much of the raw emotion I was feeling when I saw Superman give up the life that he always wanted. Man I'm too much of a cry baby when it comes to great sceans.
Does anyone know who made the music? I love how it sounded when superman looked up at his parents statues and the music played in the backgorund.
This episode was definitely one of my favorites just because of the pure emotion. You see it when Superman says goodbye to his son and his dream life. You hear it when Diana screams Batman's name as she rips away the Black Mercy. You feel it when Superman almost loses himself while fighting Mongul. Definitely a favorite. I wish this show never ended, I'd give anything to see this show come back.
This show was just really getting off the ground, especially when you look at the later episodes. JLU still had a lot of life and potential in it and I will never for the life of me understand why they ended this show so soon like they did. DCAU is the best!!!! Hey DC, bring back JLU and TEEN TITANS!!!!!!!
Iamtheis1234 um yeah do how ur talking about batmans parents being shot and how superman would never know his pain. Well, supermans entire PLANET exploded. Imagine that.
Wow iamtheist1234 ur really a rude guy. This us just a cartoon. So why r u pounding on people dude? U left like six comments on the same day here. And no one was even responding. So why r u being so mean? Oh yeah dude wen u said chimera wasn't better than superman, well superman not real!! Wake up dude!
Iamatheist when u and dewddarwin were going back and forth I noticed u said dewddarwin why r u watching this video? It's for little kids. But I was just wondering if u think it's for little kids then why r u watching it?
made me cry :( poor superman and batman btw isn't the mogul actually like darkseid? they look alike?????? except that like darkseid isn't yellow but that's like the only difference?
I don't think you can truly appreciate how royal screwed up Batman's life is. His dream will never come true, while Superman still has a shot at a family with Lois. Of course that will be on Earth and not Krypton like in the fantasy.
@Mysticgamer ya it's called the young justice right? but the justice league members look really different in this upcoming new cartoon. Plus it's not the teen titans who are gonna be in the show o.0ll
Why are these videos loaded with hunred comment-long arguments? What's wrong with simply watching the vids an leaving comments like "Superman rocks!" or "Aww, poor Bats!"
@plugginmuffin still batman had it worse off superman still has earth parents and batman knew his parents before they where killed before his eyes superman has it rough but batman got it worse >_<
@8yume The writers couldn't use Robin as the character was in Teen Titans at the time. I appreciate the Teen Titans version was Tim Drake, but it's the same reason.
@Kitarl It wasn't Tim it was Dick. That was based on the second incarnation on Teen Titans. But without Wonder Girl and Kid Flash as official members.
I don't think there's a better way to measure the pain one suffer then looking at what he does with it. Batman - from human to greatest hero with no power. Superman - from superhuman to superhero with power from birth.
dude what are talking about its not sad superman lost a kid that he knew for 10 min, batman's son robin(jason todd) got kill by the joker, he came back to life and wanted to kill batman how fucked up is that.
@Iamatheist1234, Batman fans also forget that although Batman wasn't born with superpowers he was born with the power of wealth. Everything about him comes from his Wayne name. His genius level intellect comes from his father, his money comes from his father, without his father's money he wouldn't have had the money to learn martial arts. Batman is cool, but it's not like anyone can be him. He's superpower is his name.
@Chimera1591 o so martial arts only requires wealth? did Batman buy all his skills and his scientific knowledge and his detective skills? these are things cannot be obtained with money,Batman learned them and train himself into perfect human condition, your argument with batman's wealth and his intellect is merely "comes from his father" is weak, even Albert Einstein worked his butt off to go from a lab assistant to a famous physicist, so just because he's wealth don't mean he didn't work hard.
@Iamatheist1234, Without the Wayne fortune there's no way Bruce would've been able to travel the world and learn martial arts. His scientific knowledge comes from his father's genes. His father was a genius as well. Being a detective is like being a scientist, a gene he got from his father. Green Arrow is Batman without the brain and he's a pretty good martial artist. And trust me, Batman can not beat Superman. Frank Miller's novel was PIS.
I wonder what Wonder Woman's deepest desire is?

@mrd456 I disagree. I bet somewhere in the world before I'm done typing this, hundreds of kids will be orphaned, due to war, famine, disease, crime, or simple bad luck (and how many of them are the heir to a billion dollar fortune, I wonder?). Superman is truly alone, though. His entire species was wiped out. He's not even distantly related to any Earth person, for god's sake.
TheWorstWarlock 1 year ago
@mrd456 Bruce relives that day every day, he does it so that he will never quit, never relent, never stop. Bruce/batman is the saddest and yet the most inspiring hero Dc has ever came out with. A man "even tho its fiction" that took the most awful, terrible thing that could happen to any child and used it to make himslef a true champion, sacrifacing all his tommorows, all his possible happiness, his very life so that no one would ever have to suffer again.

Okay, bit of a side-note here, but Batman smiling like in-costume that is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen in my life.

I remember this comic, it was written by Alan Moore. They changed a few things around. Robin was supposed to be in this, and Mongul fantasizes about him taking over the world. And Batman's dream ended up when he got married to someone.
dvouring1 1 year ago 2
@dvouring1 Also, Krypton was a near-dystopia and Jor-El was kind of whacko and estranged. Hm. Can anyone say "be careful what you wish for"?
grumpytosnowwhite 1 year ago
The changed some things in the cartoon.
The former ROBIN Jason Todd (now the villain/antihero RED HOOD) saved the day in that comic and Batman dreamed about being married to Kathy Kane (BATWOMAN, now a lesbian in post crisis continuity).
In Mongul's dream you can see him ruling the universe, BRAINIAC in his robotic form kneeling in front of him, by using a giant spaceship called WARWORLD (some kind of a Deathstar knockoff).
flatscan78 6 months ago
@flatscan78 what;s the title of that comic?
bellafatsa 6 months ago
@bellafatsa
"For the Man Who Has Everything" is a comic book story by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, first published in Superman Annual #11 (1985).
flatscan1978 6 months ago
@bellafatsa Same as the title of the episode "For The Man Who Has Everything". It was one of my favorites in my collection.
mspears33 6 months ago
@flatscan78 I remember from the comic, Jason Todd talking to Superman.
Jason: "What are you going to do with him?" (Referring to the immobilized Mongul).
Superman: "Do you know the black hole as you come in by the spiral arm of the Milky Way?"
Jason: "Uh no".
Superman: "It's quite large. I think I'll drop him into it."
(That's from memory; I'll have to hunt up my copy and see how close I got it.)

i cant find the first part, any help?
getsomelead 1 year ago
i found that this episode is probably the most shocking display of batman's psychology. He is so badly scarred by his childhood that even in his perfect world he never ever moves past the alley. Where as superman dreams up an entire life for himself, its as though batman isn't even able to imagine what could be if his parents were alive.
although 'perchance to dream' does point to the contrary...
Joker365 1 year ago 12

Gilthu 1 year ago
@Gilthu
the mugger does not have his voice, perhaps the same voice actor but it's meant to be the mugger.

Where's Part 1 for this episode?
ztslovebird 1 year ago
Aww man I can't explain how much of the raw emotion I was feeling when I saw Superman give up the life that he always wanted. Man I'm too much of a cry baby when it comes to great sceans.
Does anyone know who made the music? I love how it sounded when superman looked up at his parents statues and the music played in the backgorund.
Elyograg1 1 year ago 6
This episode was definitely one of my favorites just because of the pure emotion. You see it when Superman says goodbye to his son and his dream life. You hear it when Diana screams Batman's name as she rips away the Black Mercy. You feel it when Superman almost loses himself while fighting Mongul. Definitely a favorite. I wish this show never ended, I'd give anything to see this show come back.

superman went all out there and it was brilliant...who else thinks the show ended too early?
g4bde 1 year ago 25
@g4bde I think it ended to early, the fact they made a comic based on JLU proves that they weren't out of ideas and could have made more episodes.
LordOmnissiah 1 year ago
@LordOmnissiah they made a comic about it? ye that does prove that they still had ideas, to be honest that just annoys me now
g4bde 1 year ago
@g4bde The comic came out in the early 80's I think with the same title.
DarthSideous63 1 year ago
@g4bde It DEFINITELY ended wwaaayyyy too early!!!

I don't think you can truly appreciate how royal screwed up Batman's life is. His dream will never come true, while Superman still has a shot at a family with Lois. Of course that will be on Earth and not Krypton like in the fantasy.

Jeez, talk about not sticking to the script. Wasn't Jason Todd ( 2nd Robin) suppose to be the hero in this episode?

@8yume Thats pretty much the ONLY difference, and he wasn't really necessary
Jspheonix 1 year ago
@Jspheonix It still would have been great if he was.
8yume 1 year ago
@8yume The writers couldn't use Robin as the character was in Teen Titans at the time. I appreciate the Teen Titans version was Tim Drake, but it's the same reason.

@Kitarl Ah.

Iamatheist1234 1 year ago
I don't think there's a better way to measure the pain one suffer then looking at what he does with it. Batman - from human to greatest hero with no power. Superman - from superhuman to superhero with power from birth.
you decide
Iamatheist1234 1 year ago
dude what are talking about its not sad superman lost a kid that he knew for 10 min, batman's son robin(jason todd) got kill by the joker, he came back to life and wanted to kill batman how fucked up is that.
Kingmastershake 1 year ago
@Kingmastershake Im with you on this one
Iamatheist1234 1 year ago
@Iamatheist1234, Batman fans also forget that although Batman wasn't born with superpowers he was born with the power of wealth. Everything about him comes from his Wayne name. His genius level intellect comes from his father, his money comes from his father, without his father's money he wouldn't have had the money to learn martial arts. Batman is cool, but it's not like anyone can be him. He's superpower is his name.
Chimera1591 1 year ago
@Chimera1591 o so martial arts only requires wealth? did Batman buy all his skills and his scientific knowledge and his detective skills? these are things cannot be obtained with money,Batman learned them and train himself into perfect human condition, your argument with batman's wealth and his intellect is merely "comes from his father" is weak, even Albert Einstein worked his butt off to go from a lab assistant to a famous physicist, so just because he's wealth don't mean he didn't work hard.
Iamatheist1234 1 year ago
@Iamatheist1234, Without the Wayne fortune there's no way Bruce would've been able to travel the world and learn martial arts. His scientific knowledge comes from his father's genes. His father was a genius as well. Being a detective is like being a scientist, a gene he got from his father. Green Arrow is Batman without the brain and he's a pretty good martial artist. And trust me, Batman can not beat Superman. Frank Miller's novel was PIS.
