  • Nice technique, I'm purple too in BJJ but not very good at throws and takedowns, I trained this today but I kept doing something a little wrong, this video helped me. I was not finding this variation too, keep it up with the good work.

  • i will sqaut him up and then do the move, but this way is great too

  • Call this throw whatever you guys want..it's a "Takedown"..how's that. Don't use it if you can't get it to work for you, that's why there is a gazillion techniques on Youtube to choose from. This is one that's works for a lot of my students in competition so I thought I'd share it. For the record...that is a PURPLE belt I'm wearing (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). I have a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in Judo, but teach full time at my BJJ academy.

  • Hey man nice job teaching I am a Black Belt Instructor for the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program as Well as a Black Belt in JuJitsu and a green Belt in Karate so I understand the teaching thing and people on here making stupid comments about the way you teach is dumb well done brother!!!

  • I was taught to do this putting the knee down on the inside like a single leg. You post your leg on the inside. Is there any difference?

  • there's not drop kata-guruma. there's any throw on the canvas yoko-kata-guruma and yoko-otoshi

  • The direction of this specific throw makes it impossible for it to be yoko-otoshi. It is, indeed, uki-waza. I know most "drop" kata-guruma seen today are in fact yoko-otoshi, but not this. For a BJJ lesson, I thought it was well done, you should not expect the use of the perfect Judo terminology when even competitive Judoka mistakenly call these throws as Kata-guruma.

  • Well this throw is called both kataguruma and yoko otoshi...it was Johan Laats who made it famous but the russians have done this throw for ages

  • ahhahahaaha a judo trainer whit bleu belt?

XD im better i have brown and im 15

  • if you're really brown belt, you should have learnt about humbleness :D

  • soz ment to give thumbs up than thumbs down:L

  • I am actually Nidan in Judo, that is a BJJ Purple Belt I have on teaching basic takedowns to my BJJ beginners class.

  • Lol, goods stuff man that put his little assuming ass in check, your execution is solid btw.

  • You're 15, that means you're not a 'senior', but I see where you're coming from.

  • yawn

  • @JHJ1204

Brown belt in what? That guy must be a blue belt in BJJ but he might be a black belt in Judo..

  • @JHJ1204 dont you feel like a dick now?

  • @JHJ1204 dont you feel like a dick now?

  • @JHJ1204 dont you feel like a dick now?

  • @JHJ1204 dont you feel like a dick now?

  • @JHJ1204

moron, he's not blue belt on judo, he's blue belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu

  • @JHJ1204 note his 2 black edges with a white stripe im not sure but ive never seen that before also on a bleu belt

  • It's a tama-guruma variation thats name I forgot.

    Basically a kata-guruma combined with uki-waza.

  • its a kata otoshi and its wrong

  • I land it all the time, so do my students....what may be wrong for you works well for me. Thanks for your input though.

  • We will call it Massey Kata Guruma, since it works well for me and my frame.

  • im not sure that, that throw is even laat kata guruma... upper body doesnt rotate enuf.

  • It´s not kata guruma, neither a variation

  • What do you call it

  • laats. after the dutch judo player Johan Laats

  • Yes it is.

  • OK I"m going to try it that way, because I started BJJ a few days ago and they fight low.

  • Use Russian grips on the bjj guys. Get over the shoulder belt grips and stuff. I do both BJJ and Judo, and it is a plus that in BJJ you wont get penalized for holding the belt grip for more than 5 seconds.

  • Great but hard to get if you are too tall.

  • True..lol, but you would actually just shoot in and drop to your butt rather than squat, then drop.

  • Nice, and you can do it without the gi too! Not bad, not bad...

  • groovey
