  • Cat's LOTs cooler than the dancers!

  • lol at the dancers

  • I am a big Cat Stevens fan but I never heard this song before. I love it.

  • I guess many know this but what a great number!!!!!!!

  • I believe this was a great 'B' Side to Matthew and Son.

  • Happy Birthday for today Yusuf. You still look and sound great - but have to say... you were a real cutie here. Love you to bits. XX

  • He was brilliant in the late 60s, and i admire him greatly. But, i could never quite understand the Islam thing. Still, the talent was and still is quite remarkable regardless of how and where he prays in the cold light of day!

  • this man is a legend

  • A Rare side,indeed,for US Audences! This came out on the UK,but not the US,Version of his Debut Deram/London Lp "Matthew & Son",repackaged with "New Masters",his 1968 Follow-Up in 1970 as a Two-Fer!

  • Why so many glum faces???

  • 1:01-1:05 I think that's Elton John back when he dated girls!

  • @gordie225 I think you may be right. What year 67 - 68 .

  • In Soviet Russia, song dances you!

  • Gozzillacia@

dont talk nonesense dont listen to the media of HATE

he is THE MAN and I looooooovvvvveeeeee him to death

    plealse dont listen to LIES

  • @847maram listen to his own hate words on TV and in lectures YTusuf the Islam like all muslims will kill homosexuals and tyhose who "insult" his sill idea of "allah"

who the hell does the idiot think he is? Cat Stevens?

  • @redshirtish

  • @redshirtish ur gay

  • lets just enjoy the music hes given us :-D and not have religious debates :-)

  • what year?

  • Cat Stevens = Yusuf Islam ( now )

  • Cat Stevens called for the murder of British writer Salman Rushdie on the orders of the then Iranian Islamic dictator - surely this is incitement to violence - and maybe even treason - why was he not prosecuted?

  • @Gozzillacia I heard him deny in a radio interview that "he never said that!" and there was anguish in his voice. I so hoped that he hadn't agreed with the fatwa, but then I think he had found himself put in a corner. His lyrics have always revealed him to be a gentle and peaceful person and I was so shocked to hear of this accusation.

  • @TheHeartmindsoul

The problem with his denial is - I saw and heard him say it with my own eyes and ears. He is lying. If he has really changed his mind he should just come out and say -" yes I said I agreed that Rushdie should be murdered - but I was wrong - and I apologize to Rushdie and his family for publically supporting the call for his murder " - but this denial is an out and out lie. So what are we to make of him?

  • @Gozzillacia Please, check his site: "I never called for the death of Salman Rushdie; nor backed the Fatwa issued by the Ayatollah Khomeini – and still don’t. The book itself destroyed the harmony between peoples and created an unnecessary international crisis."

  • @delfoioracle

Hi - the trouble is, I saw him and heard him myself with my own ears and eyes say he did - he was on a British TV programme with ( amongst others Faye Weldon the writer -she called for his arrest for saying it ) he said he agreed with the Fatwa and the sentence of death - later, he said it was just a newly convert's over zealous reaction - then later he denied he even said it - but he is lying - I saw him say it - and actually since it was on TV - someone must have a recording.

  • He believes in Shiria law - you know stoning women to death - how handsome is that? I mean a man who would kill a woman by bludgeoning her to death with rocks is not a handsome man - I mean he is not even a man, he is a sick monster.

  • @Gozzillacia

I've realised you go around sayin rubbish under every Cat Stevens video. Get a life.

  • @Ravenmongoose The fight against religious fascism and the people who promote it is more important - what do you do with your life ? - listen to retro pop trash, big man big life - not.

  • @Gozzillacia There is a difference between "BELIEVES" in Shiria law, and "BELIEVED" in sharia law. I agree that it sounds like he "believed" in it.

Many people have gone through periods of believing in extreme things.

  • OMG! He was totally gorgeous! very beautiful in every single way... why? why? why? I'm so far away? :'( -I LOVE: 2:54'-

  • I love the way he holds back from laughing each time the camera comes to him... Cute !!

He's drop dead gorgeous here... !!

  • Audience dancing.. like the hair styles and clothes.

Fantastic Hit for 60's. "CAT EYES."

    Wild! W.O.W.!

  • now THAT's a BASS riff you can shake your bootie to!

  • you are handsome like Elvis Presley.

  • @Kulan1605 and maybe more! :)

  • I LOVE HIM

  • This guys is a legend~ he wrote this song in his family restaurant kitchen. TRUE!

  • it s not coincidence he wrote music for "harold and maude"

  • Muslims are nice, peaceful, and bleieve it or not..They don't live in tents like most of your corrupted believes about them THINK!

  • @hys7 You shall know a thing by it's fruit.....just saying.

  • Here we go again Muslims who want us all to live in tents completely overlooking there own backward religion and blaming others again. You should become a Spiritualist like me (nice n peaceful :)

  • he's singing about granny porn

  • @blurfist well remember this was before he became a muslim :D

  • Yes I recall he had a fierce addiction before he was finally set upon the straight and narrow.

  • I'm wondering which "straight and narrow" condones killing people who write books. I'd go with 'Bent and narrow'. As in narrow minded and bent double with murderous fascist perversion.

  • @blackmore4 you can ask the jews the same question.

  • By the tone of your comment, I presume you're referring to "jews" as a political entity. And while I'd agree that "murderous fascist perversion" is arguably applicable when it comes to their take on geographical real estate, unlike Stevens' voiced beliefs, as a democratic secular (oh, yes) nation, they've yet to return to stoning adulterers, hanging homosexuals & beheading 'blasphemers'. Call me a hippie but Jewish "murderous fascist perversion" is a distinctly preferable option to Islam.

  • you must be a jew.

  • blurfist: "you must be a jew"

"Must"? How you leap. Actually, my old Mum did one of those ancestry searches last year and in all the evidence she dug up going back nearly 4 centuries, there doesn't seem to be much evidence of even Norman or Anglo-Saxon; which points toward straight Briton (with a touch of Viking here and there naturally). Bit disappointing really; in spite of disagreement with Jewish real estate policies, I've always been prone to Brill Building songwriters & a zither.

  • cnt blv im seeing this..

  • The original Austin Powers!!! (1:32 ...)

  • Oh god, his eyes O_O <3

  • Wow I never saw or heard anything from him before 1970!!!!! This video is GREAT! Not to mention sureal!!! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Ohhhh my angel baby!

    How gorgeous can one be?

    That is so cute.

  • Man, he was just a kid! Austin Powers was not even in high school by this time! kkkkkkkkkk (lol)

  • I just love his voice and his eyes, x), ♥.

  • O M G ....He is very very very very very very very HANDSOME.......

I like his beatiful eyes .....

  • @847maram Hahahahah... his "beautiful" eyes are simply an excellent weed.

He acting as he's very high, definitely. This is a playback, if this was live probably he would forget the lyrics or something... :-)

  • @847maram - SMILE... and so very very very young.... He has this thing about him... can't be explained in words I guess.

  • @847maram

Yes - he is a very handsome gay man - so why does he support the murder of gay men in Islam?

  • @847maram

He sure was MAJOR eye candy, when he was young I swear his eyes were brighter than any star in the sky! :*

  • The audiences in the bigger cinema/thatres were very responsive (in the UK). I remember seeing him on the 1967 Jimi Hendrix tour in Manchester. We all loved him!!

  • Sheesh... looks like he's singing at the Zombie Ball. I don't understand WHY they didn't get into the music. Can you imagine what it must have been like to play to an unreponsive audience ? He's so talented, has a magnificent voice and is extremely handsome. The girls should have been going wild.

  • This vid looks like it is from the 60s If even not earlier. I guess it was inapropriate to that time to turn wild and shriek if you have seen a corpse when your favourite musician plays

  • Duh!! He started out in the sixties! He is so talented and hot, I would have been screaming in the audience!!

  • I know i would go crazy if i was there =P

  • It's a music video, not a live performance. The song is the album version.

  • Wrong...there were no music videos then. It's a LIVE performance, just the same as if he were doing American Bandstand. But then again you're probably only 20 and didn't even exist at this time. THIS is the way they reacted back then... they just DIDN'T get into like kids today would because they lived in that "kind/polite mentality" of the 60's.

  • yah these kids dont know what they missed back in the 60;s an 70;s. thoses were the days. great music to listen to. brings back memories..

  • Let's see, I have the album right here, and the recording is EXACTLY THE SAME. Maybe he played it live for the audience, but the audio track that is playing with this video is dubbed in. There's no denying this; anyone with a set of ears can tell.

  • Cat is amazing!!

  • Yes!! I agree!. He´s amazing and smart and..handsome ...and.... I have no words..but I love his music...:-))

  • He look extremely adorable !!!!!

  • The dude was 17 here! Yusuf (Cat) is the very definition of an "old soul" I think....

  • You know that look animals have when someone's forced them to do an awkward trick? This audience is surreal. I always get a laugh watching them!

  • Comment removed

  • He looks like Austin Powers.

  • yay!

    my favourite song!

    *___*

    so grannyyyy~

  • Oh! that wonderful unique voice!

  • Hahaha all the slow dancing people who can't feel the music make me laugh.

  • I didnt know that I remembered this until I played it. You know what its like - a bit of a homecoming thing!

  • He's soooo cute

  • that's a fact...and he still is today

  • Only Cat Stevens could make a song called "Granny" sound groovy!!

  • you disgust me

  • No...just to reassure you...just asking for advice on the usual problem.

  • Umm asking Granny for advice on a girl thats driving him wild because she always straightens him out??

  • He ooozes major talent right from the get go.

  • Poor Cat, they put the straightening comb to his hair and tried to make him look like Bobby Goldsboro - and it's just not working for him! This was apparently even before his voice changed, too...

  • Oh how I love watching Music TV Shows from the 1960's. On the dancefloor, quiet raging hormones just dying to be unleashed. hahahahaha!

  • lol whats wrong with those folks on the dancefloor

  • My guess is they've been told by the floor manager to dance or else get kicked out so they're doing their best to sway around rythmically to a song you pretty much can't dance to and hping that songthing better suited to their purpose comes along.

  • Thanks for posting this .I remember it on the radio when it came out, and Mathew & Son, yet we didn't have television where I was then so never have seen it.

  • it's like night of the living dead.........lmao.....great song though.......

  • This dude was multi-talented...Good at 60s pop as well as the singer-songwriter stuff.

  • lol they all look sad

  • Hey, that's cute.

  • ***** MY GRANDSON WILL BE 1 YR old 2morrow'''wow''', i still feel so young a lot, seems like yesterday i was CATS concert'',, & i had my own son', now he has a son''', times flys, HAVE A BLAST******

  • ive got matthew and son on my site but this is even better well done

  • what year would this of been ? any ideas?

  • around 67

  • at 2:13 , child looks like dancing with his mother :):) even grandma:):)

  • Look at those two idiots on the bottom of the screen from 0:52 to 0:57. They seem to think "WTF is that singer??!!!".

  • aww :D

  • wow this is the old school shit!

  • But what a cutie here! What in the world was *I* doing back then...?

  • I don't think he was ever really a hippy. He was just considered one of those down to earth types.

  • He was a Mod. It was pre-punk.

  • Oh wow, those dancers look like zombies.

Cat is SO frickin' cute though. Shame he has to be surrounded by the living dead...

  • wow, was he cute or what? I kind of like his pre-hippy look.

  • This Is On Side 2 Of The "Matthew & Son" Single (45rpm). How Do I Know?

I Have A Copy Of It.

  • I prefer his bearded hippy look to this one

  • What a find! Thanks for the post! Ohh to be young again....

  • The people dancing in this video are so bland and dispassionate it's creeping me out.

  • I was just going to say that I found him to be kind of creepy here, haha. : )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on that.

  • Honestly, he was really completely lovely!! And a great kid in every other way.

  • Well, I have had a huge crush on him since I first saw Harold and Maude, and often feature him on my channel, but as someone else said here, someone tried to make him fit into a box here, and it just doesn't work for him.

  • Still has mojo in a major way, though.

But best wishes anyway as you're a fan, too!

  • oh, their probably just English.

  • OMG! if i were a woman as i am a man, my bedfellow you would have bean!

  • I am seriously in love with this person.

  • I am 2!

  • if i didnt have this male thing i would say the same, but, my mom said he was cute b4 his beard and all that jazz :P great music either way

  • This was before he almost died from tuberculosis. He spent a year in a hospital. He came out with different look, different songs. The second time he almost died (drowned) he promised God if he would live he would devote his life to Him. And so he did!

  • He looks so different without a beard...

    Very, very young looking.

    `Mazing. (:

  • Dear Lord.

He was, and continues to be, an absolutly amazing man.

    I love him. <3

    SO much.

  • I find it rather hilarious that the hired dancing couples in this clip look very terrified of each other while continually nervously staring into the camera while Mssr. Stephen Gerigou is lip-synching with almost crazed passion this lovely and undeservedly forgotten pop tune.

BTW, Yusuf has never lost his singing voice. Every part of his musical talents have been perfectly preserved like amber in an eternal dawn. :P

  • If you all love Cat you should check out his album New Masters (his second album)! It's one of his best written and passionate! Listen to the View from the Top if you ever get the chance.

  • WOW!! what a style!!! :O I just love it!! :D and a very very very very very very nice voice!!! ;)

  • OMG- he's so young!!! i'm used to the younger stevens

  • He was so young here. But he was great even back then.

  • His mannerisms were so different when he was this young. After he recovered from TB his whole personality changed. More sensitive and introspective.

  • small cute yusuf :P

  • Were those girls in the same room as Cat?

  • It's like he's a totally different person. You'ld never know it was the same person.

  • lousy beatnicks. Cat rocks!

  • BEAT - CLUB TV Studio in Bremen June 24, 1967 where he also sang I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun

  • Does anyone know what year this is? He was born in 1948 and this looks like the late 60's at the lastest. He couldn't have been more than 21-22 years old.

  • This was on German Tv on a show called "Beat Beat Beat" and it was shot in early 1967. He was on the show promoting/performing his second 45, (the song's A-side) "Matthew & Son' which was released 12/30/66.

  • i thought all those songs were from his self titled record that came out in 69 pr maybe even 70 before tea for the tilerman

  • oh wait ya it was 67

  • The dancers are so funny, hardly a smile between them. I think I would've been smiling to be so close to gorgeous Cat Stevens. He was sublime, still is!

  • I love these old videos. It looks like he still has a little baby fat here. Thing of it is, if you just saw only this clip you wouldn't even think that he knew how to play guitar!

  • Cat Stevens reminds me so much of Josh Groban here, his looks more than the genre. Compare to Machine (with Herbie H)though.

  • WHAT a hottie

  • So cool and jazzy - love it!

  • great..

  • Gosh! Makes me appreciate Y. Islam, for sure!

  • And it makes ME wish that he had NEVER stopped performing music for his fans! I was truly DELIGHTED when he RETURNED to the world of music, as it was never the same for me since he'd left! When I saw him at UCLA some years back, we discussed this, and you could tell even then he was MISSING it! WELCOME BACK!!!

  • not the same guy eh? Must have been a real transformation he went through

  • great song....

  • haha first time i see him without a beard too

  • What a treat - ive never seen this before, he looks so young.

  • i love this song!

  • so young and so great

  • Quite a rarity.

  • What an odd song. The dancers all look like zombies. Enjoyed seeing Cat at this young age, though. Thanks for posting this.
