Okay, the cops rocked his unconscious ass because he nearly hit that officer trying to deploy the spike strip. That said, I don't think he was trying to hit the officer, just trying to dodge the strip--which probably wasn't the best idea judging from the outcome. All the people defending the police are forgetting one important fact.
It is not their job to judge him and inflict a penalty.
If he ran over a bus load of nuns and shit on the American flag it makes no difference.
It is their job to gather evidence and arrest him for the State to prosecute.
When he is knocked out he can offer no resistance.
A professional police force would handcuff him and call an ambulance.
Sad we only have jack booted thugs as enforcers for the State.

So your suggesting we sacrifice professional ethics and basic human compassion for nepotism? The guy was unconscious and no threat to anyone, to continue beating him was overkill and abuse of power. If you don't want to risk your life then don't become a cop.

@707kang Well guess what? Cops know that they might get killed any day they're on the job. Nobody forced them to sign up. Even if that man was conscious and running like a track star there's no excuse for 5 or 6 cops to hit him with batons, jump on his back, kick him, punch him and generally act like the gangbangers their supposed to arrest.
