  • gave me chills...

  • I loved him on Trapper John M.D. !!!!

  • WOW beautiful voice.

  • anyone who doesn't fucking recognize how brilliant Brian is doesn't deserve their hearing, tbh.

  • wow, cant wait to see him on glee

  • i just found out he's been cast along with Jeff Goldblum as Rachel's gay father (spoiler), so i googled him. BOY am i glad i did!

  • @ooshadygirloo I had the privilege of seeing Brian Stokes Mitchell on Broadway twice. It was a truly unforgettable experience. These vids don't give you any inkling of the charisma of the man or the thrilling power of his voice in person in a theatre.

  • Bravo!!!!!

  • Bravo

  • I can't believe he did stuff with MoTab- two great things together!!

  • What an incredible performance!

  • A superb singer and performance.TY Best Arts Music for posting.

  • wow an lds video without religious comments, unheard of

  • He got his awesome all over me.

  • Damn, Brian has got one beautiful voice. I never get tired of hearing it, we need more artisits like this..With raw talent, not lady Gaga or baby Biever...GO Brian GO...xD

  • @MabiGal93 Biber can sing.

  • @keezydadon No.

  • @Finne116 Yes.

  • calm down every one. Luther does sing it good too but Luther is not a musical theater performer. The Brian Stokes is expected to sing this like an old man would. Luther doesnt have that restraint he can over affect it all he wants and make it Luther. But when watched on stage there is a sublime weakness and humility created by Mitchell's performance. Which for me in the long run makes his version more impressive to me.

  • Wow, I didn't know that Obama can sing very well!

  • Good LORD, I want his technique! When does he inhale?! What a vocal BEAST!

  • I agree with MsMaynes and darknight. BSM owns both the stage and the repertoire. I never miss his performances when he comes to my town I'd also add he is a celebrity with his heart in the right place.

Love you, Brian! You are my heavenly cause!

  • what talent! made me cry :')

  • @wicked0824 ME TOO

  • That's got to be in the top 10 of voices. Give me 10 better, I dare you.

  • Thank you for this posting. Brian Stokes Mitchell, what can be said about this superb performance? It is uplifting; it is pure; it suggests that the dream is not impossible; it is beyond words. Perfect , absolutely perfect.

  • 5 people walked into Hell WITHOUT a heavenly cause.

  • 3:13 *gasps and dies* oh god he made me squee on the inside and my stomach explode in lovelies.

  • Good, but not quite a Robert Goulet version.

  • @jayseah32 This isn't Mitchell's best performance of it, either. Check out the soundtrack from the Broadway revival he was in. Plus, some folks below point out some issues with the sound recording as well (which I agree with it). It's not a competition, though - Goulet's good, Mitchell's good, and I've always had a soft sport in my heart for Placido Domingo's version.

  • Brian Stokes Mitchell is perfection. I hope to upload my own version of this song soon!

  • If this isn't the voice of God then I don't know what is. How could it sound any better than this?

  • Trevor!

  • I confess I know next to nothing about music, but good god...that man has one hell of a voice

  • @Jatooswor Nice comment. Perhaps you'll like some of our music as well? All the best, ~Marcus:)

  • DUH....WINNING BRIAN IS A GOD!!

  • this song is eternal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sound quality is awfully squeezed in this vid >_<

Reminds me of a muffled, mono grocery store speaker...

It's the video, not his voice—a mastered re-post would probably quell a lot of nay sayers.

  • Its a shame that he has this dreadful swallowed sound and that the voice doesn't have any ring to it.

  • @SOTSV

surely you jest! THEN I guess EVERYONE ELSE who has heard him are wrong when he is called the last leading man of Broadway. And that he has the most velvety, powerful voice imaginable! how could you insult this amazing talent? I suppose that speaks to your own lack

  • @jcsundwall1 No not really - I did mean what I say. He has the beginnings of something nice but he has a swallowed sound that you can hear so clearly and he constantly mispronounces words. This is not Character singing - I love the song and I am a Latter Day Saint so I should have more than just musical allegiance. However, I can not bare the fact that this is an amazing, beautiful song and it is unfortunately murdered by a broadway voice as so many call it. This is my opinion.

  • @SOTSV I have to say with respect, you are speaking absolute nonsense.

  • @KiraCzar I understand your point of view - however it does not change vocal science. His voice is unhealthy and as a result not as pleasant as could be if he was not so swallowed. I do appreciate you may like him but the heaviness in the voice is one only to be explained by his "pushing" down. I can show you what I mean over Skype if you want a free lesson on vocal science. I mean that sincerely.

  • @SOTSV That would be very interesting, thank you. How can we get in touch on Skype?

  • @KiraCzar Go to my SOTSV page and simply email privately and I will give you my email so you can find me on Skype

  • This particular performance took me up and down. At first he was singing very stiffly, which made me very sad because he can be much better than that. Then he let himself go and, in a manner of speaking, let Don Quixote take over, and the reason he is so famous for his rendition of this song becomes obvious again. A thank you to Brian Stokes Mitchell for not confining yourself to a recital pose.

  • He is so over singing it that it's almost stripped of all emotions!

  • @ScorseseKubrick Watch the performance from the Tony Awards that year (the video is in the sidebar)--you will change your mind immediately.

  • @phantommangagirl WOW! Much more emotional! He was amazing there!

  • @ScorseseKubrick I know! XDD <3

  • Trevor from Fresh Prince!!!!

  • Such a great Kind of Music

  • with that voice he can get every woman he wants to :-D

  • 5 people didn't reach the unreachable star...

  • @QAHUNO Hahahahahaha loved it!

  • I don't know why but every time I hear this man sing I feel the need to hear more. He has a fine voice but that is not the reason. He invests the lyrics with so much humanity and understanding that each song's performanc becomes a minor masterpiece.

  • The role is written for a baritone and it fits his voice to perfection.

  • He's not so good...

  • @r2d2camelot You have to be joking right?

  • Baritone?

    Bass more like!!!

  • His voice gives me goosebums, I just don't know if in a good or a ad way :) His smile is so warm.

  • His voice gives me goosebums, I just don't know if in a good or a ad way :)

  • Too theatrical for my taste, maybe in the play but for a solo it really needed more feeling and passion. I don't believe he captured the real spirit of the song. I have to say I like Jim Nabors version from the Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. much better. He at least acted like the song meant something to him. And I thought the vocals were much more in line with what the character was trying to portray.

  • @TheGunslinger5854 I agree, it was lacking in passion. There's a video of Bryan Stokes Mitchell singing this song from the actual play (as in he was acting it out), and it was a lot more powerful.

  • @TheGunslinger5854 he's a theater actor....and has a much better voice than Jim Nabors....not to mention he puts a great amount of emotion into it...

  • @TheGunslinger5854 Jim Nabors goes through the motions, Brian has passion

  • yes thank you i'm going to using this for a presentation in my religion class see Thomas s Monson's talk finishers wanted

  • Wow..

  • What a voice :) You can't fault it in any song he does. Hope everyone has seen the scene from Prince of Egypt with the song 'Through Heaven's Eyes' !

  • @shaunzietrpt AHAHAHAHA YES!!!! <3

  • WOW!!! So beautiful!

  • At 03:05 I witnessed "EUPHORIA" :)

  • He sings from his feet

  • Wow. What a voice. And what a handsome looking man.

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • wow.. amazing voice.. kinda reminds me of tay Zonday.

  • This is a true anthem for those who go through troubles and adversity and have to fight in any which way to sort their lives out. Not only that but inspiring and beautifully written and sung to give us all pleasure.!!!

  • To fight for the right with out question or puse

  • I'm going to see him live this fall!!!

  • I am a fan of Brian Stokes Mitchell and I love him performing The Impossible Dream. Thankyou for posting it.

  • Although it was great, It was not as good as I am used to hearing him perform this song. Or any for that matter. But always he is brilliant.

  • @CrazyGood88 If you like this video look up Man of La Mancha - The Impossible Dream...it's his performance from the Tony awards...it was pretty awesome.

  • @jadedgurl86 omg I love you for that recommendation! just listened to it. Had no words for how awesome he is!...Gah I love that man. One of the best renditions i have ever seen/heard! top 3 at best!

  • he was on fresh princ?

  • @austin3400 Yes, he played Trevor

  • He still reminds my of Obama. Good luck Barak!

  • The video you talk about is still showing /search impossibl dream you will go to main paige with all icons to the left he's in full costume at the tony awards

  • love it

  • This is good, but starts out a little too low. Richard Kiley and Jim Nabors IMO have the best renditions of this masterpiece!

    Jack

  • This man makes me lovew bass/tenor/ singers! He is fantastic!

  • I thought i was watching Obama sing for a second...

  • I'm pretty sure if Obama sang, it would be to charm the minds of those around him into doing evil things

  • @drwhamilton96 That was a bit uncalled for in this particular forum, I feel.

  • Have I ever mentioned that this is my singer ever?..

  • If Obama were to sing, I imagine that he would sound like Brian Stokes Mitchell! Both of them have incredibly musical, soothing voices.

  • @mllefantine indeed

  • I am so in love with Stoke's voice. Ever since I heard him in Prince of Egypt when I was young, and even now as I listen to shows like Ragtime and Man of La Mancha. He takes my breath away.

  • Beautiful...

    )D

  • mmm what passport does he have!

  • The passport of life.

    lol XD

  • fuck off another IRA supporter like you fucking americans know! fucking think you rule the world!

  • wow. just.....wow.

  • I agree with Agorante. I used to be a fan of Stokes' voice, but lately I do not care for it, I think he has lost a lot of the power he once had. If you really want an outstanding recording of this listen to Bryn Terfel's recording.

  • @JShex

...D. Quixote de la Mancha would never abandon a friend...even if this friend had lost a lot of the power he once had...

  • Clearly you have no musical knowledge.

  • @Agorante you clearly are deaf to the amazing musical talent of this man. look up his other stuff. although this clearly shows his amazing talent of being a powerhouse baritone.

  • Daniel

I congradulate you for singing this song on stage at your age. Get a good teacher and practice and you should be better than Mitchell soon enough.

The Impossible Dream is not particularly difficult but it still requires actual singing, not the Rex Harrison semi-singing style that is acceptable elsewhere.

  • Chills down my spine.

  • This is awesome-maybe better than Jim Nabors version.

  • Wow.

  • I saw him twice in Ragtime in North York, Toronto! It was a perfect cast with Marrin Mazzie and the great Audra McDonald... flawless!!

  • I feel this song when Brian Sing it,... he's got the Voice... Bravo...

  • What a gift to mankind

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • I am in love with his voice, Bravo!

  • Goosebumps! This man gives me goosebumps with his performance!! Truly one of the best voices of our time!

  • Dignity! Respect!

  • that's not the " Salt Lake City convention center" that's the Conference Center...

  • amazing!

  • awesome.....

  • is there anyone in the whole wide world who sings more beautiful than Brian Stokes Mitchell?

    I think NOT!!!!

  • He is incredibel ...have you heard Nathan Pacheco?

  • no I haven't I'll look him up

  • okay I looked him up

    I'm definately madly in love

    I started to CRY!!!!

  • Absolutely incredible.

  • really though, really? do you know how many psycho's are out there?

  • anyone know where I can find sheet music for this particular rendition of the song?

  • he always gives me goosebumps, but i still like it better when he is in full costume/character version. im a big fan either way

  • beautiful man,beautiful voice! Bravo!

  • absolutely breathtaking. better than anyone i have heard

  • EPIC WIN.

  • theres a glitch in the info. This is actually the Conference centre not the convention centre. That person probably didn't know.

Anyway brian is amazing when he sings he put so much feeling into his songs its like he becomes the character in the song

  • This is a very long way from Mitchell playing Jackpot Jackson on "Trapper John, MD!! Beautiful Voice!

  • Just love listening to him sing this, one of my favourite YT videos.

  • What an impaceble voice,God bless you my lad

  • I LOVE HIS VOICE!!!!

    beautiful

    :)

  • check out jim nabors version this is wonderful

  • Magnificent.... worthy of tears and goosebumps. Bravo, Brian!

  • I just happen to catch some of Edward Kennedy's memorial and this guy came on, and he looked like someone I had seen on television but I just could not place him, than his name came on the screem, than I remembered that he started on Trapper John MD. Than I see that he sings one of my favorites song. Thanks Brian

  • Just beautiful and moving.

  • Thats fine rossmcl177 everyone has their own taste, I like both. Rhyd sings it better live, but when record producers get hold of if in a studio, its never the same.Lucky those who got to see Brian sing this live. Does he ever come to England, love his voice but I don't really follow him ,so really don't know what he gets up to.

  • When I watched this rendention Friday night it took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much posting this. And Senatory Kennedy we love you dearly

  • An incredible voice! And his performance at JFK Senator Kennedy's tribute was a high point! And I am glad fmazzar felt so duty bound to set history straight! I just hope the trip back to earth from your ivory tower wasn't exhausting!

  • Words can not describe how I felt when he sang this at Senator Kennedy's tribute. It brought me to tears....It really describes Senator Kennedy's life a wonderful and TRULY GREAT MAN....

  • Last nights rendition of the Impossible Dream by Brain Stokes Mitchell took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. For me, Ted Kennedy was a kind and wonderful human being, not a perfect man, but one with flaws and faults who in spite of them lived a life of service and was a voice to those who needed it most. He will be sorely missed.

  • Jim Nabors' version is absolute magic. He performed it on an episode of Gomer Pyle. Absolute magic.

  • This was good, but I thought his performance last night at the tribute for Edward M. Kennedy at the JFK Library was excellent, accompanied byonly a piano. Mr. Mitchell knocked it out of the ballpark!!

  • What a wonderful song! I am a new fan of Brian Mitchell Stokes, and this inspiration song! I especially like the version played at Senator Kennedy's funeral.

  • when you think of the mary jo kopechne incident, these words are the opposite of the teddy kennedy we knew...he was never brave nor did he right the wrong, nor did he try when his arms were too weary, nor did he reach the unreachable star....he led a good life, but he was no hero, just another poor human with faults and foibles

  • It's as if the song were written for Teddy, and for Moynihan, for Wellstone, for King. Teddy was the promise of the Kennedy legacy, and he leaves its greatest mark.

  • Wish I could have been there. This song is a perfect tribute to a man of indomitable spirit. Teddy will live on, in the soon to be enacted universal health care bill that should bear his name. Long live the Kennedys!

  • I wish I could have been there. The song accurately describes Ted Kennedy's indomitable spirit. RIP, Teddy. Your work will be continued. Let's call it the Kennedy Health Care Reform Bill!

  • I saw him perform this song at Ted Kennedy's memorial he was phenomenal.

  • This man should be treated like a national treasure.

  • Senator Kennedy is smiling

  • His voice is awesome!

  • Yes he will be performing this evening. This performance was very uneven and pitchy, and out of tune for the first 1 1/2 minutes...BUT he finished quite well delivering at the end. Good luck tonight.

  • @bad2thebone6969 With respect that's nonsense- do you sing? I somehow doubt it.

  • he is going to sing this song this evening for senator kennedy's private service. very, very poignant.

  • Brian, eres el mejor.

  • Brian Stokes Mitchell is the best with this song!

  • 80 years of Music and the Spoken Word. Nothing short of magnificence!

  • he was amazing at the hollywood bowl tonite singing mancini.

  • I love Brian and the sincereity of his voice and expression. I loved him singing with the Tabernacle choir. I can't ge enough of listening to him sing. So beautiful. Joan

  • Hes good.... but Richard Kiley still is the mac daddy when it comes to anything from The Man of La Mancha.. btw-- BSM also played the neighbor Cam Winston on the TV show Frasier

  • This is great....... BUT.... there was an even better video on youtiube of BSM singing this song, ecorded live at a Tony awards ceremony; he was in full costume etc. And it was a superb rendition. Just truly magical. I just came on to watch it again, as I do regularly when I am feeling in need of inspioration. And of course some SOB has removed it due to 'terms violation.' I just want to thank that vigilant person killing something that made so many people happy. :(

  • Your so right! Just can't understand why the Tony Awards version was removed!!

Made it a favourite long time ago, now just found out it was removed... assholes!!! Someone please place it back! Greatings Ugly George

  • Hey - it seems to be back now. Hurry and download it before someone removes it again!!! :)) It is posted by jkc2001.

  • I truly loved listening to the one you describe Rossmcl177and like you came to watch it many times before it was removed ....not happy! ! .Out of interest what do you think of Rhydian Roberts version of it.

  • I dont like the Rhydian one Im afraid. It is too over-produced. The beauty of Mitchell's performance is that he has a real natural style. I think Rhydian has a fine voice but I dont like his style.

And meanshile of course the BSM Tony version has been removed again. Whoever is removing it - look at how many people agreed with my post above. does it makje you feel good to make so many people unhappy???

  • @rossmcl177 I remember exactly the performance you are talking about. I t was saved as one of my Favourites. But was removed by WMG. But he is still amazing, I hope one day to get it back. If anybody that still has that recording and may be able to post. Please Post !!!!

  • Hard to believe he was Dr. Jackpot Jackson in TRAPPER JOHN MD and the ill-fated Trevor on FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR

  • I wouldn't say he is the greatest baritone of our time. But whoa!
