I saw Journey do an indoor concert at Santa Clara University in 1979ish. It was rockin' and the people were roaring. At the "end" of the concert the crowd called them back for 5 encores. The seats were wooden bleachers. The audience stood and stomp on the bleachers. You could hear the stomping cycling around the auditorium. It was a great concert and the crowd's enthusiasm was intoxicating.
Neal Schon was a guitar god in the era of guitar gods. All the band members were very talented.

Everytime I hear this I am blown away by the vocals all over again. Steve is such a natural and he makes it look so easy. He is such an amazing talent. To hear him sing this in '94 on his solo tour in New York just drives it home. I hope he knows how many fans he has and will always have. I don't know how he toured for so many years with Journey, but I'm just glad he knew when to stop for his body, voice and mind's sake. We want so bad to hear from you again, Stevie!
May come as a surprise but I smoked a lot of weed to this song back in the day... I think it's one of their classics..I remember when this album came out I couldn't play it enough..just had that feeling that you were there.
What can I say other than I've been in love with Steve Perry for thirty plus years. He's a talent that will never be equaled. Not only can he sing, but he can sing anything and everything, and the delivery is flawless. This is one of the best, if not the best performance of this song that I've seen.
I never get tired of listening and watching you perform. God bless you Stevie! Love you!
Just absolutely impressive! I saw Journey after the split when Randy Jackson and Frank Beard(sp?) took over...and THAT was awesome! Would have loved to see Steve rockin' the trad grip...one of the two reasons I became a drummer is this monster and the other one is now known to highly respect Smith's technique.
Saw them in the Astrodome at the Texxas Jam in summer '82. They were still promoting Escape then even tho it was a year after it's release. Just a great great show. Got a little to high to fully 100% remember it tho. Hagar opened for them. But I had a whale of a time at it. As for Dixie Highway I used to hang out at a game room (do they still have those today?) back then & the owner had Captured on CD. He played it all the time & it rocked!! Still does today!

@recsec When I saw this tour at the Ventura fairgrounds in California,Billy Squire opened for them! It was festival seating, and I got right up front! I didn't even know much about Journey, but I sure as hell did after this concert! I came out saying Damn that band was amazing! But more so! Who the hell is that singer! Good Times I'll never forget! And yeah Captured is amazing album!
Saw Journey live from the third row in about 1983, Continental Arena (Brendan Byrne Arena back then). They were flawless live. There is no substitute for pure talent. One the best, if not the best, live band ever assembled.
I was at this tour! Ventura Fairgrounds festival seating! And I was sold after hearing this tight ass band!I didn't know more than maybe10% of there songs, and steve opened up those pipes, and I was like what the hell is this?He could sing opera but he is singing some of the best rock and Roll of all time!
@VeryStevePerry o,no please, his voice irritates me, best guitarist ever is ritchie blackmore, easily, go an play solo from ,,kentucky woman,,or hiway star,,haha, best drummer ever is ian,,left paice from deep purple also,,no comparison,
@flyfish777 Well dont watch him if he irritates you! lol. Steve Perry is one of the greatest vocalists ever, and no one will confince me otherwise! lol. Yeah i must admit i like Blackmore, ive seen him, Paice, Lord etc loads of times live in the 80s. Fantastic times, just wish id been a little less drunk to remember more! lol
Steve Machine Gun Smith -- is there any cooler sombitch ever sat hind a kit!!! And to think the cat is light years better now than he was then. From one Steve drummer to another, brother you are my frikkin idol!!!!
Steve Perry, Neal Schon and the boys speak for themselves. AWESOME!!!
@bearzluvsstevie The guy who wrote lovin' touchin squeezin about a very willing groupie... hate to blow your virginal child image of Perry, but you need to re-listen to lyrics. And watch some of the 1980 performances of Walks Like a Lady. Guess what? Perry's a normal sexual human, just like the rest of us.
@SherriannMiller It's about screwing groupies along the Dixie Highway, which was the main road between the Northern Midwest and Florida before I-75 was built. You can check the lyrics via Google.
Too Bad. I feel for you. I Did! June '81 in Ventura, Nov. '81 @ the Forum, & July '82 @ the Rose Bowl. Have all my T-Shirts & Program, KLOS Bumper stickers, etc.
Sorry for the secondary message. Shoot me an E-Address & I'll send you a picture "Of the Shrine," I made one noc when I was a little Lit. I also did the same thing for the Scorpions & Van Halen.
@heartbreakbustop Good point, but lets not forget the only face that we rarely see in this video, the man who brings the massive sound of the pipe organ and piano alive in this song, Mr. Jonathan Cain on the keys!

Actually, there isn't any pipe organ in this song. A pipe organ is a massive instrument, typically found in large cathedrals and old theatres, and it wouldn't be practical for any band to take one on tour.
The 'organ' sound here is a pseudo-Hammond B3 synth patch.
I love this song and video!!! This puts me in my happy place when I watch and listen to this. I start each and everyday with this song. My boys are even starting to sing it with me. Now that the weather is finally nice here in the north east, I blast this in my car each and everyday with the windows wide open. Stopped at a red light last week, a random guy turned to me and said,"cool, I love Journey and haven't heard this song in years!"
it's from nothing, there is no studio version of this song they only did it live. you can find it on a double live album called captured.its 1 of there best songs!
That rocked! Damn, Smitty could get down on those drums and Neal's guitar as electrifying as ever. Steve, of course, cute and sexy as always!! ;-) Always one of my faves!

Though the band didn't always show it off, every once in while they wrote a song like this just to prove they could.
