They need to revisit and rewrite some of our laws. It seems a bit racist knowing people can't speak an official language of New Zealand, in this case Maori. They didn't even give him a chance. Perhaps Hone Harawera was about to mention his allegiance to the Queen? Everyone just jumps to conclusions with the man. Yes, he, Hone Harawera, has had his ups and downs, but let the man have a chance. What ever happened to Hobson's idea of "Together as one"? Abolished? Hmm..
typical, what else would you expect from Maori, they demand respect for there culture but when it comes to respecting anything else they are just a bunch monkeys,
When will these vermin learn that jibbering like monkeys using clicks and grunts in Parliament is unacceptable? Respect the white man and our rules, only a few years ago John Hatfeild would be in chains for this.
Parliament needs to learn to respect democracy and those they are meant to serve. Respect that you serve the people as our public servants and you will know that you cannot take the oath as prescribed as it is treasonous to the sovereign nation. Who is writing these laws anyway?

They forget that the land did belong to them! So they have a god given right to say it in their Native Tongue! The New Zealanders should be bending over backwards to help the Maori people! Those that oppose that right of the Maori should be thrown out of Parliament.
This is just a cheap stunt by Hone Hatfield to get some publicity. Refuse to follow protocol, disrespect the speaker, then scream that the white majority is out to get him when the inevitable slapdown occurs.
The law is pretty clear on this issue. Members are allowed to take the oath in Maori, but they must not modify the oath. The speaker is legally given no room to compromise on that. If you aren't prepared to take the oath, you shouldn't stand for parliament.
I see a young man rising in the north and he will carry the Treaty of Waitangi and he will bring the final blow and obtain Tino Rangatiratanga and Mana Motuhake. [Tahu Pōtiki Wiremu Rātana talking about Hone Harawira].
@andreaevehopkins Correct me if I have misunderstood what you are saying, however if you are saying that the reason he was ejected was the fact he took the oath in Maori that is incorrect. He was allowed to take the oath in Maori, however is required by law to swear alliegence to the Queen - in modern times the queen is the figure-head of the state and represents the state. He instead swore alliegence to the treaty which is not the required oath under the law.
You will notice that the Ancestral Korowai that Hone Harawira wore into the House, fell off at the exact point that is the equivalent of a Marae Atea. This is Wairua, and Mana Atua. Unlike the empty mouthing of a prayer at the beginning of the proceedings.

Lockwood is probably the best and fairest Speaker we've ever had.... such an unenviable job!
But good on him for laying down the law!

Democracy is awesome when it allows racists into government (of all colours)

They do not even follow their own Oaths & Declarations Act 1958- Ask any Judge, Police, to declare their oath of office and they wont.
