Awesome...I ran across this vid about a year ago and then by chance again today....so who would Jen rather have sing this in person to her, Vince or Brian?
I enjoy your creative choices here. Your face in the sun reminds me of Animutations. Not what I would have imagined would go with that particular song, but that's a good thing. Great stuff.
I recall an interview with Dennis where he descibed Brian and Mike on a beach on the day of JFK's demise and it was Brian who, feeling so lost and empty, took minor solace that he could at least still feel the simple warmth of the life-giving sun on his face. Also, check out the earlier 'Lonely Sea'.
You take this and also Vinces version of Surfs Up and I wish he would release both (Vince). Been a Brianista for years travelled all over the world to see him but this bring me to tears
Oh My God!! Vince sings that like an Angel. Ive always liked The BB version, but dare I say Vince aces this? Thanks for A great treat. Im almost crying!!
Fantastic Brian Wilson song, performed so well by Vince Gill. Barely remember it from years ago, I think it was a B side on a 1964 45 Beach Boys record. Thank you
Very creative!!! Perhaps my favorite BB song ever. I was at the Brian Wilson Tribute concert in NYC back in March 01 where Vince performed this. Several great artists there, including Brian, but this performance alone was worth the cost of admission. No one can touch Vince Gill...
Brian Wilson wrote this song the night after Robert Kennedy was assassinated. It was a ray of light in the darkness. I heard Vince Gill sing this at an award show, and it's haunted me ever since. Nobody can sing like this....
I agree.. Vince Gill's rendition is incredible. I've loved Brian Wilson since I was little and have everything he's ever made. I turned Vince Gill's performance at the Brian Wilson tribute into an mp3 now heard on this video. I'm glad you're also so moved by said song.. it's up there with God Only Knows for me. Thank you for commenting:)
Actually the writing of this song coincided with the assassination of John Kennedy, not Robert Kennedy, and the lyrics were written by Mike Love inspired by Brian's melody. Vince Gill is a master, by the way. What a tribute to the timelessness of the Beach Boys' music.
"Warmth of the Sun" appeared first on the BB's album Shut Down Vol. 2, which was released in March 1964. JFK was shot in November 1963. RFK was assassinated in 1968, 4 years after this song first appeared.
