If I didn't see this video 1st and how smart of a MaGuyver trick you did I would have just cut that dent out with a dremel tool equipped with a cut off wheel then shoved an old pair of socks in the hole then cover it with duct tape then smeared some dry wall putty over it then got out my drill attached with a 40grit disc then took 10 really hard wacks at the area like I was trying to chop through wood with a hammer. Then painted over it with a brush and told my wife I don't know what happened :)
It's a creased dent douche face. The actual shape of the metal is changed instead of just being inverted. Had it been a dent that left the panel as an inverted form of it's original shape, it would have worked with the hair dryer and the ice. I think someone hasn't done their homework. And you are most likely trying to discourage people from using this technique so that your "Dent Removal" mate has more work.
i actually believe the dent man on this 1 i know nothing about dents apart from how to fill it sort of, but to repair a dent with no respray and get it back perfect as if untouched must take a lot of skill i dont care what any1 sez
@LGHNGMN - it does occasionally: watch?v=E2Mn3YWIaCg
my guess is it depends on the thickness and shape of the metal and also how much tension is still left in the dent. I will try this on my car tomorrow (has a similar dent like this mercedes), but since the dent is also pretty old, I am not expecting anything to happen either. if it does though, there is also still a chance that the paint will come off.. i dont care though, im curious
It only works on a dent in the centre of a flat(ish) panel. the crease in the edge of this wheel arch will never go using ice. The ice technique uses the metals "memory".
Ok first of all, Dry ice will work, just not with Mercedes that happen to be mostly made of FIBER GLASS TO REDUCE WEIGHT! Secondly, it only works for cars with bodies composed of metal. Dry ice contracts the metal back into place if done correctly. And you of all owners should know that mercedes will make their cars as lightweight as possible to increase acceleration and speed.
it would work on a flat part of the car. say if you had a dent on your door, it would work. But you have a crease on the edge of the wheel well. Not gonna move that.
i pulled out like some hail dents, and small small creases, but not much more that that. I've used a 4.75 hp shop vac to a plunger end with a hole drilled in it, on to a silicone designed for plugging cracks in shower tile
Heat gun will get too hot, and damage the paint. He also says in the video that the stuff hes using isnt in fact air duster, but compressed air used to freeze pipes. You have to listen as well as watch.
bent or rolledfor strength. Corrugated Barn Metal is wavy or V-shaped for the same reason- strength. The technique works best on the unreinforced sections of the body.. like in the middle of a door. You also didnt' turn the can upside down.. dry ice is also much colder. Do a little more research and pay attention to ALL the directions. You're trying to make money for your body shop by lying about the cold method- which does work.
@belleray2 That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. :D seriously i dont wanna explain this, but if I have to, I will... just please tell me you were kidding
Recycled metal has the same properties and new metal as long as the formula stays the same and its not that hard to recycle metal. Reworking metal can improve some of its properties but many properties are inversely related. "Strong" is not a property of metal.
Stupid fucking limey think they're so fucking smart. A) The dent was on a lip of the fender so of course it won't just pop out. B) You sprayed so much fucking freeze spray on it that you killed the heat and thus, killed the contraction effect.
Fucking Brit's think they're so much smarter than Americans!
I live in the UK where it's hard to find dry ice in small quantities so I bought a can of Niceday air duster on ebay which uses co2 according to some website.
My dent was about handsized, max depth about 1.5cm. 1st I pumped up a small cheap plastic ball behind the dent to fix most of it.
There were still areas of shallow dent, so I then did the hairdryer and upside down air duster. After a minute the rest of the dent popped out. I read it only works with steel so test with a magnet.
No it doesn't as he is using freezing spray. The can only has to be upside down if you are using an air duster, so that the liquid propellant comes out.
hold the can upside down and don`t spray that much, all the heat was gone too fast so no powerful contraction occured..it might not work cuz its not a regular dent, its completely different from what everybody is fixing on youtube...
Yup, I got the same result this afternoon with dry ice. I didn't scratch the car any but no dents came out at all. I used the sun, a hair dryer and still no results except a cold spot on the car.
There are so many comments made by fools on youtube. No one except the dent removal guy knows what they are talking about. I have been training at this in Canada for several months you would not believe the focus and patience needed to remove the dents to near perfection. It takes a skilled craftsman its an art. The guy in the video is most likely well off too. Anyone who can reach this level of skill is like that of a great golpher ect, he's right.Body shop will bondo, sand, repaint = time/cash
@stubag69 yea i was gonna say that. You have to hold it upside down it runs the air duster up, and then down causing it to force the dent out. hold it just right way up runs it straight. And then you sprayed too much. Terribly wrong
what about when it is winter? and when you don't heat it up at all?....so, basically. do it when it's cold outside and without heating up the metal either. also, do it with the CO2 can upside down. Liquid CO2 is a lot colder than gaseous CO2 which is dispensed when the can is held upright. let me know if those tips work for you. thanks
If you look closely at any videos showing the dry ice method, you can see that the dents either aren't completely gone, or you are left with a 'smile', which is a crescent shaped crease that is caused by the dent popping back out. This is fine if you drive an old banger, but if you have a car like the one shown above, you will want it done properly.
did u ever try spraying that in ur mouth? may be ur cars wont bend if u stop talking so much.. even a professional golfer can take the dent with dry ice.. ahh..
U can't do it when u have a crease.. it wont work.. it has to be a dent without any creases

iuliusceasar 2 years ago
CORRECTION: "strength" is a property of metal but it is ambiguous until you specify what type.
iuliusceasar 2 years ago
No, reworked metal over time looses some of it's strength. Recycled metal can also become less pure making it less strong.
