I knew that arabs were much better educated than europeans in the middle ages. But what happened later? Why has the progress stopped? Most islamic countries are very poor and primitive nowardays. Have the arabs lost their curiosity and wisdom?

Yes, in recent era Muslims were not so good in science. Agree that the recent centuries were passed in the decline of Muslims, but I guess you forgot how the thousands of books in baghdad were burned by Gengis khan's army. So yes, the Islamic Empire declined due to its own mistakes 'after' giving The Renaissance to Europe.

I've heard it said musims frown on art and most music and thats really to bad ,music and art spur on science.Art says what if and science say lets try and do it.

What's been going on scientifically for the past 800 years in the Islamic world? Nothing.
Nobel prizes: Muslims (7); Jews (136-177, depending on who you count as a Jew).
Muslims: 1-1.6 billion; Jews 12-14 million
