10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (February 13), we sang this as our closing hymn. It is #836 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
-sigh- I miss when catholics used to fill their church halls with these sorts of songs. You barely hear them sing anymore; at least where I'm from. (Or it could be cause I haven't gone to chruch in quite a while, but there's a perfectly good reason for that)
Given the church organization, I suspect the verse was left out quite intentionally! You see, it has what some would consider "sexist" words in it. If this is the case, how inane. Or it could be that the hymn had to be edited due to "You Tube" limitations. In either case, my bet is that's the reason for this missing verse.

Okay, you love music that much. What's insane is that you want eveyone to think the same. That's why you write who-beats-who-non-sense over and over in this Mozart page.
I can go to your favorite pages and say Bach beats them all hundred times just to make me look stupid. Now, how does that sound to you? Besides, your favorite music is too famous for you to do any marketing here. Just don't bother Mozartians in such a manner. I don't believe you know music is all about.
I believe everyone, likes countries, should have their own personal anthem. This beautiful song, with Beethoven's 9th symphony and lyrics by Henry Van Dyke is my anthem.
It's a wonderfully uplifting song, yet religious too. It's reference to God is subtle and left to the individual in the manner he wants profess his thanks and joy.
This version is sung very tastefully and from the heart.
This is the way the song really is supposed to be sung, to the tune of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, not the stupid modern-day versions that our society tries to feed us. Good job, whoever posted this!
There is nothing wrong with being joyful to the Lord. I can't understand how you can sing Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee without singing it to the tune of Ode to Joy. There are some idiots that believe we can, however...
The point is not how its sung, but the feeling behind singing it. Whether its traditional or the sister act 2 version its still a praise song which glorifies God. I prefer the latter but thats because thats my prefered style of music; I wouldn't call those who prefer the former 'idiots'
@Ia2U I enjoy all different styles of christian worship(including this!).Isn't it more important that we worship him?All of us have different ways to praise Him.Just because it doesn't sound like you would want it,doesn't mean it doesn't honor God.This kind of worship doesn't necessarily minister to everyone, just as the other doesn't.Think bigger!God is about saving souls, and loving people....not making sure we are all robots!God bless, brother!
@Ia2U amazing the way you express feeling regarding christian music enjoyed by others. let people worship the way they feel best fits them. I am Cof E however I have never ever experienced a more spiritual feeling than listening to a gospek choir in the states.
@Ia2U I really think that you're being a jerk. If Beethoven didn't like this, something in our beliefs would stop us from singing this. This is beautiful lyrics to a lyric less song. Don't like? DON'T COMMENT!
@Jaelinmae Ha ha I'm not saying Beethoven didn't like this song. I'm pointing out that our society has corrupted this song, and tried to sing it in different ways. You should read my comments a little more carefully.
There is no such thing as corrupting a song a song can be sung however you want to. Dumb fuck it's called creativity I think people now a days are just trying to put a race issue on this thats the problem. Out of all the remix's in the world you want to fuck with this one. just on the strength that the R&B version or whateva you wanna call it sounds better. This is just a proper way to sing the song, it could be based on accent or , the time and era it was in get over it......
@Ia2U I beg to differ. The Lord loves all praise given to Him, regardless of what manner in which it is given. Be it merely spoken, sung, or even acted out in works, all these give glory to Him. He sent us here to glorify Him by making disciples of all nations, and also through worship. The legalistic way you approach this is more or less a worldly view, and therefore, not of God. Just because you prefer singing traditional hymns does not make the new covers "stupid".
@Ia2U Or maybe we like the modern one because it's easier to connect to? Just because something is old doesnt mean it's better. I truly love this song, but it kinda bores me, wheres the newer versions really seem to cheer people up. Have to listened to Brenton Brown's version? I play that for my church and everyone loves it.
I guess I'm weird... I really don't care for all this new pop-lite remakes of these songs that are meant to be like this, and more so songs that are meant to be in Lain. There is a inhearent beauty that can never be duplicated. And i'm not really old or anything i'm 24...
@Ia2U please. Maybe if there was electric guitars when this song was written, there just might be a blazing guitar solo in the song. Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the Earth...."stupid modern-day versions that our society tries to feed us"? Please. If you want the church to be like it was in the 50's, it is going to go into the grave with you and seize to exist. Arent we called to reach out to the lost? If you go to church to "fill" yourself, get out, church is for the lost and broken
@kevincz99 amen brother. a church that lives in the past is a dead church! we must keep growing and reaching out to new people, and to do it with vigour, and passion! i will admit, this dusty old organ hymn never filled me with passion, but the "stupid modern-day version" most certainly did.
@kevincz99 Isn't church for the believers? The modern church has lost so much by trying to be "seeker-friendly." Think of it this way. If the church compromises to become like the world, what is there to draw people away from the world into the church? The Bible calls us to be different, separate. And while that might mean not being exactly "modern," that might just be a good thing.
@Ia2U I completely agree with you. I am Hindu from Kolkata, India, but studies in a missionary college where we performed this song in a choir. I was trying to listen to it again, but sadly, it took me ten minutes to find out this one among the worst "rock" ones (I had to Google for "Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee Traditional" actually). Great song, and great job done by both the uploader, and you too, for advocating for the original version.
@Ia2U So glad God is not locked in to one style. Because if He was, you and I probably wouldn't have his approval. Why don't you just be nice and post how much you enjoy this post without tearing down others?
Amazing song! Thanks to Soeur Catherine, from the school of Sainte Trinité, who introduced me to Music on the piano, decades ago! She was also my voice teacher! A wonderful human being (Nun)! I used to get frustrated with her every time she would say, Again! Again! Again! I know God forgave me my stubbornness, for I eventually acquired the art of patience, dealing with my children :( So, I clicked Replay 3x, lol :) in memory of Sister Catherine! Thanks for posting! God bless everyone!
Allah, the God of Islam, is the God of Christianity when he is merciful and loving. When you're talking about him as a vengeful God that strikes down sinners and nonbelievers, then that is no longer the Christian god. The Jews and the Christians do essentially have the same god: they just worship him in different ways. The Hindus do not have the same god as we do: they worship three gods.
Beautiful, I've enjoyed it, thank you for uploading it, brother/sister.

this is a beautiful song and it is sung wonderfully, however nobody noticed that there is an entire verse missing. it goes like so...
Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing, ever blest
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother
All who live in love are Thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine
it goes in between "All Thy works with joy surround Thee..." and "Mortals join the happy chorus..."

When the evangelical church I attended sand this, I'd break into Schiller's lyrics:
Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum.
Deine Zauber binden wieder,
Was die Mode streng geteilt;
Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.
