  • >10000rpm hdd

    >not terabyte ssd

    sure is poorfag

  • @dnbsc1 oh wait thats right no pci slot for such a thing

  • Is tht a logitech sound speakers X-530!?

  • you are saying that copying and accessing files is much faster over ethernet than firewire, total fail man, your ethernet runs @ 100Mbps and FireWire runs @ 400Mbps or 800Mbps if you use Firewire 800, firewire is much faster than ethernet unless you use Gigabit Ethernet..

  • @johndarrell it is a gigabit ethernet

  • @nepalihercules and a Samsung screen lol

  • why does this guy such like he got ripped off and now he has to desperately prove he didnt get ripped off. :/

  • he said server 10+ times in the first 50 seconds

  • You probably learned the word sever the day you made this.

  • @STIZO99 id be uber wasted :D

  • if i had a dollar for everytime you said server id have an imac also

  • what a waste

  • Hahaha he has owns a mac...... when will people learn that PC owns

  • Dang, your electricity bill must be pretty scary... Though having a mac pro and an iMac 27 must be pretty awesome ;)

  • well, this guy is a loser

  • Fuckin Redneck !

  • @jasonnooz i'm a redneck of sorts and he is giving us a bad name

  • Drinking game...take a shot every time you hear, Server.

  • can applesoldier buy descent furniture? he says that macs are stylish and shit but his computer is sitting in a piece of cardboard he got from a homeless person

  • You should consider getting a 4 terabyte external raid drive in stead of a mac pro with server on it, if you're just going to be using it for storage and a scratch disk.

  • at 3:35 im pretty sure that extress isn't a word

  • so it's on the server then :(

  • Mzr, he's an idiot. And he doesn't have a hard drive capable of meeting the speeds of ethernet, anyways. How long have SSD drives been around? Maybe if you wanna run a "fast server" from home you should get a solid drive. Also, I've seen you test games like WoW on i7 macs. What the FUCK? WoW can run 100% on a pentium d 820, let alone an i7. You don't know shit.

  • You have a sever no you dont a server cost 100,000 and up you dont have that much money and a server is not setup on a computer it is setup on panels. Can you give me a defishion of a server.

  • You said server alot! Lol nice setup

  • How exactly is Ethernet faster than firewire? I mean it's not like you have a 800MB/s router/switch. The speed of the drive does not necessarily matter since it's mostly the speed of internet transfer speed rather than the read/write of the hard drive.....

  • why do you blokes get stuck into "Applesoldier" Let's see all you critics show your set up on YT.

I think he does a pretty job job here

  • nice set up man

  • hp mouse? omg im sick!

  • @510marlon lol and samsung screen and gigabyte router

  • I imagine if anyone in Apple Soldier's family decided to buy a PC, he would react the same way an Islamic fudamentalist would when they found out their children were converting to Satanism...

  • what the fuck.. this is just plain retard

  • You are a NERD!

  • HOLY SHIT GUISE I CAN COPY FILES FROM ONE SYSTEM TO ANOTHER HOLY FUCK DID YOU SEE THAT?

    Is this collusal faggot serious?

  • he is the result of justin bieber on drugs

  • What mac specs is best on a an Imac for HD video editing in FCP ??

  • >using a Server ONLY on for storage ALONE

    >Mac server...

    Ultimate butthurt.

  • Ethernet = 100MB/s

    Firewire = 400MB/s

    This video = fail.

  • @Trixilver ever heard of gigabit ethernet ? :D

  • Comment removed

  • "That fast! 100 megs! That fast!" LOL

Sorry, it just sounded funny. I use my PC cause I'm a gamer. I also do pentesting for work. So... I really have no use for a Mac really... I guess it works out for you cause your profession. I don't think it makes it the "best."

The big reason I used a mac in my DJ/Recording setup cause no matter what fan's I'd use or what passive cooling I'd use. The mac had no electrical noise in the background.. which is a big deal in recording.

  • i improved the cooling on a mac so much way better than stock see my vid

  • its funny how this redneck never replies to comments, he's either embarrassed at how much of an asshole he sounds like, or hes too busy sucking on steve jobs' balls while racing a slow car

  • I Rather a Cheap pc then a mac that will make me broke... face it most people these days dont get money like that to but a high price computer thumbs up if u agree and thumbs down if u dont agree with me

  • dude you should det a kmv switch, plug that mac pro in it, get and mini dp sploter and plug the cinema display into that

  • Hey guys lets keep it PG here. jk but i noticed somthing funny. it looks like applesoldier is using an hp mouse with his imac.

  • @tallblondekid LOL and he always tries to insult the quality of computer hardware and he tries to make macs look like the only good computer to buy

  • @westpointe3 Yeah, I know, but it wasn't a wireless mouse so my guess is he was just using it to conserve batteries. In my opinion, apple mouses are better, but they're also really expensive. That HP mouse he has was probably like $20

  • This fucking Cables ...

  • hey fucktard eSATA is 3 gigabits while gigabit ethernet is exactly that 1 gigabit but you dipshit mac fanboys don't know shit about hardware but thats only to be expected cause afterall macs are for dumb fuck rednecks like you.

  • @TheEncryptedSoldier You sound like a dumb fuck redneck yourself.

  • @Avatarass he said "Ethernet", which is a type of cable. not internet.

  • @SquickenX ya well da waay that red neck pronans 'ords you can't 'nderstand shit ya'all

  • Ignore any idiots comments, your setup is awesome and that's coming from a PC user.

  • fuuuuzzz that, i would use the iMac as the server, and use a 3-monitor system on my Mac Pro

  • This is the same faggot who said i7's where "toys" in another video. It just goes just to show he doesn't know his shit, just talking crap to do whatever he can to try prove windows based systems are inferior.

  • you show girlfriend now yes?

  • you suck dick dude...windows rules!!!

  • i hate you, IM GOING TO KILL YOU AND RAPE YOUR MUM. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE FUCKWIT

  • yo bro i love macs but you are seriously fucked. go fuck a mac

  • i do the same thing but instead of imac i got a macbook air and server is a cheap acer laptop

  • You probably payed 5 times more than you should have for that Mac crap. Apple needs to stick to iPods and iPhones.

  • thats not so fast...just as fast as my usb 2.0 hdd hooked up to my router.

    I am connected with wifi

  • esata is considerably faster than ethernet. Also, using the Mac pro offers no performance benefit at all, you'll get the same speed using a laptop as a server (everything has gigabit ethernet). And the ethernet transfer speed isn't going to take advantage of the 10000rpm drive at all. In other words, your setup is a massive waste of power and resources, you'd get better performance having a sata/esata drive in your iMac and sharing it via ethernet to other computers on the network.

  • i would recommend newegg, the ultimate ares combo.

  • You are slayin your kids in advance with this energy devouring, mind polluting madness :D

  • how you get a dock like that on your imac?

  • big mofoing screen

  • some days i get bored yes and i watch videos like this to pas the time but this guys a loser he loves mac so much sounds like a lozer to have no gf stays home masterbating to his computer cuz he has nothing better to do and then convince you windows sucks when really macs sucks but there just for looks! anyways ima stop hating now and get on with my life

  • Comment removed

  • wow yesterday i was rendering a 4 minute clip on sony vegas for windows in 720P it took my pc about 2 hours and 50 minutes :p that's just amazing :p

  • Sweet review! I bet that room gets hot due to all the machines...lol

  • hey applesoldier, will you be getting to mac pro in august?

  • How much did the whole set up cost?

  • MICROSOFT FTWWWWWWWWWWWWWW XD

  • @TehVinceShow as you Americans say: I'm a gonna bitch slap you back to your mama" LOL XD Apple Rocks tehehehe

  • @pkerry12 why because im right?

  • I heard u saying in a video once, that u thought that ur precious mac pro was so beautifull and that a pc can/will never be so beautiful from the inside and outside. But why the FUCK, did u put ur mac pro behind ur freaking desk so nobody can see it? U see, nobody cares about the look of a computer its just all about how powerful and fast it is.

  • What RAID do you run? RAID 1? RAID 0? Or a combination of different RAID?

  • dud u repeated everything like 10 times!

  • @canincorperated if you had a pc thats as much as a mac it would be better

  • r u rich?

  • Eric.. The fact that Apple have REMOVED on purpose "Jumbo Frame" on i5 and i7 don't bother you? great vid... as usual.

  • Why not just get and a Network Storage (NAS) 6bay 1GB Ethernet install 6 sas or ultra 320 scsi15000k rmp drives into it i think i would be faster. and there is no need for the other computer so you can sell it

  • fake & gay

  • hey george bush, go fuck your self.

  • Just a few questions I'm not sure about...

    1) What do you use your Mac Pro for?

    2) Where have you set your scratch disks for FCP?

    3) How fast can a 100Mb file transfer?

    4) Where is your set up?

    5) How do you do things where you are?

Thank you in advance for reading, I can't wait to hear the answers.

  • come on man ... do you even know what the hell you are talking about ? Ethernet faster than FireWire ? c'mon now.

Ethernet is 100 MBs/s (even if you have gygabit Ethernet on both your machines it does not matter because you have a 100MB/s router/switch).

    FireWire 400 / 800 = 400 / 800 MB/s.

So, please don't think to much of yourself and stop repeating the same thing 7 trilion times, it really is exhausting!

    Have hillbilly-ing good day!

  • @mzr9mm Well but what if you have a Gb switch? Ethernet is way faster. And if 1 Gb isn't fast enough, just go get 10Gb ;-) Btw FW 800 is 800Mbit/s which is less than 1 Gbit/s ;-) Don't mix MB with Mbit.

  • @mzr9mm i dont know what ur talking about but i get 1000mbps on my ethernet router transfering it to my wd live hdd.

  • @mzr9mm can't u have gigabit router?

  • I see a toothbrush... do you brush your teeth at the computer?

  • 2:15 Is that a powermac g4 cube i see?

  • i think it is!

  • Is it possible to do this wirelessly?

  • Yeah but it'd be slower.

  • @DilSoupaliciousWorld yes it is i tryed with my imac and macbook pro

  • @DilSoupaliciousWorld yes but it's slower unless you use wireless n

  • @DilSoupaliciousWorld no, because then computer will say ''no''

  • i stopped watching this video, cuz i couldnt stand that terrible accent. what an annoying voice.

  • Lol you must not travel a lot.

  • Comment removed

  • the black one that seems to be connected to the iMac btw

  • is that a HP mouse?

  • whats better an hp touchsmart or imac?

  • @quest8899 imac

  • imac i work at best buy and i have used that computer and it is horrible get the imac

  • I would recommend the bottom iMac over the HP Touchsmart unless you want a touchscreen. The screen is much nicer on the iMac. I would have definitely made the purchase if they would have had a Quad option on that model for a reasonable price.

  • @tfinder Good answer but whats better an imac or HP pavilion elite with an i7 processor,NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 1.8gb video memory, 1tb hard drive, 9gb system memory for 1,279.99 at best buy?

  • You ask the right question because I've been trying to decide over the HP Elite HP180t or the i7 Imac. I would choose the iMac i7 with the 27" screen easily if it wouldn't cost another $1,000 to do so. The 21.5" Macs are nice but don't interest me because I have a Core 2 Duo I built two years ago that has that speed. If you are looking at the 21.5" iMac's then do you want to pay the same for Core 2 Duo(iMac) as an i7(HP)? If you aren't going to heavy proc work then it may be fine.

  • I finally went with the HP Elite 180t after months of pondering over that and the 27" iMac. I have been really happy with it as it has been very stable, fast, and quiet. I would recommend it.

  • there is no display to match the 27 inch imac on the market. thats a fact. im not being an asshole but im telling u a fact

  • I wouldn't argue that the display is very impressive and it may be the only LED display in that resolution. However, there have been a few 30" LCD displays at 2650x1600 for a couple of years. LED is nice but I'm very happy with my old LCD monitors and wouldn't pay a big difference to move to LED.

  • why waste money on a cinema display for something you use just to store files ?

does the imac not have an input port on the back, i have no idea what im talking about in this sense, is there no way to connect your mac pro to your imac display rather than wasting around a thousand bucks on a cinema dsplay?

  • @Caolan96 I'd actually like to know the same thing. But I don't think so.

  • You can connect an iMac to a Mac Pro to use as a display through MiniDisplay port to whatever you have as a dislay port on a Mac Pro without buying a display. i have a Mac Pro and iMac and it works fine.

  • you can also use your server via ethernet for logic pro , with the logic node .. gives extra cpu power as well as drive space ..

  • Damn, im not a mac guy but thats a sweet setup.

  • Loving the set up, ever get an xServe?

  • Very nice set up. Looks like you know what your doing....Sweet.

  • How much did You RAID Drive cost You?

  • Get final cut server.

  • What is the process that you transfer the media from your Mac Pro server to your iMac? Do you have to have a router? I would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you

  • yea its a router that he uses for transfer.

  • wow thats a nice tip

  • This is why life was better before the internet went big. because all that happens when one person does/says something, someone else comes over and declares them as stupid and wrong, and then starts discriminating them. this isnt in defence of applesoldier. its in defence of everyones mental health.

  • Rednecks can't technology.

  • can you do a tutorial on how you made it a server

  • all you have to do is turn on sharing them right click on the directory or path you want shared on the network and hit get info then checkmark share

or in windows, have sharing enabled, right click, hit properties, click the sharing tab, click advanced, and turn on sharing

  • Lame setup

  • lol the mac pro is emptying the trash

  • toothbrush??!

  • Very clever.

  • You know that thing you see on the Apple Menu that shows how many cores are at work? What's the app called?

    Peace.

  • I think Applesoldier uses iStat Menus to show that info.

  • Thanks :D

  • No problem. :)

  • No, it isnt the fastest setup compared to RAID's etc but its the fastest setup I have

  • scratch disk through gigabit ethernet LMAO OMGWTFBBQ

  • your a fucking idiot. You obviously HAVE NO CLUE about editing. Gig ethernet is faster than my firewire. It gets 1000/mbs. And if you wasnt a noob you would know you NEVER set your scratch disk to your main OS. and if rendering over gig ethernet to a 10,000rpm HD is the fastest setup i have than im gonna use it. Yuor an idiot. Do a video and show us your server and editing software or are you just TALKING OUT YOR ASS because you read web articles. You ass talkers come out when you get jealous

  • of course raid's and rendering on your internal drive etc is faster but i dont have the equipment at the moment. and you never set your scratch disk to your internal drive. So the mac pro over gig ethernet is my best choice right now.I need big storage, not fast speeds. I need HUGE storage to serve my media from so I dont have to keep it on my main imac. I dont edit uncompressed HD at home so this is the best set up for me.

  • gigabit ethernet has latency, you lose packets when copying data, greater load on the cpu etc.

I never said I had a server, or edit video but I know networked attached scratch disks are much slower than a separate internal drive as a scratch disk.

Scratch disks are best with an internal drive, but you don't put it on your primary OS drive duh. save your money and screw Mac Osx server and buy a nas box for storage and use your mac pro in conjunction with your imac for node-based rendering.

  • didn't you say you're using a raptor? raptors are all about SPEED not HUGE storage. So stop saying you don't need speed. That's all you talked about in the video. You kept saying how "FAST" it is, and mentioned NOTHING about "huge storage". These are the facts. You got caught being a dumbass, so you changed your story from it being "so fast", to "i don't need speed" " I need HUGE storage". You're a clown, who doesn't know the difference between gigabytes and gigabits. You can't get around that.

  • If the Gbit Ethernet is faster than your external FW-HDD it is likely because of one or both of these:

    - You're using FW400

    - The drives in the external disk is slow.

If you have a FW800 external disk, with a fast drive, you can get 800Mbit/s (100MB/s) out of it.

Even if Gigabit Ethernet states you get 1000Mbit/s, that is not the case IRL.

Besides, the load on the CPU is higher when using Ethernet than with Firewire.

  • "...because you read web articles..."

Isn't that what you do? I mean correct me if I am wrong, but you tend to complain about a bunch of shit thats not Apple branded that all the information you have gotten was from articles and just talking out of your ass. I have (and others) have corrected mistakes you have made in a bunch of videos, and either you ignore them/never comment about it, or try to spin things into your favor.

  • if he calls you an idiot, you should be proud. he clearly doesn't know shit about shit. he got caught RED HANDED making shit up. he doesn't know the difference between bits and bites. Now, if this clown calls you a genius, you should be worried. but i take much pride in being called an idiot by him. it's what he does to ppl who know what they're talking about. he calls them idiots, then he block them. he's as lame as it gets, and as dumb as they come, truly.LMAO. "i have "gigaBYTE" ethernet" lol

  • Eric, how often do you talk out of your ass when you read some silly article, and misinterpret it? "Oh, Microsoft got sued for not getting a license to use XML!", Yeah, nice try.

It's like the pot calling the kettle black.

  • @manjyoumethunder Microsoft did get sued, they got an injunction against the sale of Word and Office too. They had it overturned when they came to some settlement with the company that sued them.

  • Yes, Microsoft did get sued by i4i, for something related to Word. But it has nothing to do with licensing XML, as Eric continues to imply.

XML is an open format and is free for anyone to use. If you read the patent, you'll see it's on a very vague way to manipulate a document's metadata and content separately.

    Nobody has to "license" XML.

  • It was actually over the use of XML within Word. They hold a patent on the use of XML in some form that Microsoft infringed on. Quite ironic as a few days earlier Microsoft were granted a patent related to XML on somewhat similar grounds (goes to show how fucked up the US patent system is). XML is an open format, but this company (and Microsoft) seemed to have found a way to patent the use of it rather than the XML itself.

  • It's something like that, but not exactly. The patent is on a specific way of structuring and manipulating the document's content. But, as I said, it has nothing to do with XML itself, as it's an open format, and nobody "owns" it, as you'll find Eric claiming in previous videos.

In any case, as far as the patent itself goes it really is just a case of trolling, and this company probably had every intention to eventually sue Microsoft from day one. People do it all the time in the tech industry.

  • To be fair to this company they were actually producing products that depended on this patent, so it's not like most recent cases of this kind where they've either had no intention of using the patents in a product, or they shut up shop and went in search of people infringing it to sue as it makes them more money.

  • Hey, they have a shitty product. What else can I say. When you make a product that depends entirely on end users using a program that you did not design, you chose a pretty flaky business model.

  • You're STILL running around calling people idiots, when you got called out for not knowing the difference between bits and bytes, or gigabytes and gigabits? OMG! What the hell is wrong with you? If anyone is talking out of their ass, ITS YOU! It's been proven here, that you don't know BASIC things about computers and networking. You have NO RIGHT to call people "idiots" or "noobs", when you've been proven to lack fundamental knowledge about these things. "its gigabyte ethernet, 1000 megs/sec"LOL

  • That is a nice setup. I eventually want to get a setup like that myself.

  • i'm an IT student and professional and can say that apple soldier is wasting the use of a mac pro by just using it as a file server, but thats his choice, whatever

he is wrong in saying he has gigabyte ethernet, it's gigabit

he's an asshole because he continues to defend his wrong info in the comments

i can't say much for the improvement in speed as i dont know fcp at all though, but gigabit eithernet is fine for streaming, not sure about multi-level editing though

  • Wow emeek finally found a use for his mac pro as a glorified external harddrive that's really putting money to good use, he really is a sucker for being brainwashed into buying apple products for no good reason.

  • Eric, no disrespect, your great and all, but that setup is a mess! If you can treat yourself to a new $2200 iMac, then I think you should definitely be able to get yourself a new desk. Your setup is great, but I think I speak for all of us when I say we all would bow down to it more, if it were clean too!!!

  • The best video edit System setup :D Mac pro and imac wow :D

  • It is a complete waste to use the Mac Pro as a file server.

  • I just don't see the difference of this "Server" and one of the home servers by HP.. besides the fact that this mac pro costs like 10x more money. Can anyone help me?

  • 10x more money? what are you talking about? What HP? what matches the mac pro? you're a noob

  • Well you see, the mac pro is expensive. You can get a cheap server from HP. In other words, Mac = Sux. I don't care how many bad comments i get on this, mac has ridiculous prices.

  • looks like your dell display is the bitch, I like how your main displays are the apple

  • I like how stupid your comments are. You make me laugh macward. Thanks for the chuckles.

  • he's a moron, and he thinks his negative feedback means he's doing a good job

    f'ing hillarious

  • you all are a bunch of stupid noobs, including adobepc. he has all his data on the mac pro and his setup he is usinf FCP to manipulate his files on his mac pro, the raid0 config speeds everything up,, he is not constantly swapping large amounts of data between the imac and mac pro, final cut is delegating the work to the scratch disks. damn you all are stupid

  • I am aware of what a scratch disk is you idiot. As stated Applesoldier would be better off using an eSATA drive (not for iMacs) or even a fire wire 800 drive you fucking douhce bag. Use that Fire Wire 800 port your so proud of Applesoldier. As of now he is just wasting electicity and getting worse performance at the same time. There is no need to set his system up like it is.

Niether Fire Wire 800 or gigabite ethernet can edit more than one layer of uncompressed HD. SATA can!

  • firewire 800? for what?

  • >eSATA drive (not for iMacs)

    snipurl. c o m / tqok3

    >Niether Fire Wire 800 or gigabite ethernet can edit more than one layer of uncompressed HD. SATA can!

Yeah, there are four sata connectors in a Mac Pro. With a controller card, you can add more.
