Poor interviewer!!!! Of course she is "with MCC" on the shopping offer at the end...What else has been filling your head, woman, to make MMC waste her time on you like that...CBS please.. it is not just the looks!!!
This interviewer did NOT now her work. I felt bad for MCC., as it was obvious that this "shira" never did her homework. God bless Mary Chapin for not walking off.
OMG! Who chose this interviewer? What an awkward exchange. Sounds like she prepared her questions for someone like Justin Beiber or some other underage teen "star". What a waste of a potentially enlightening moment with a brilliant mind like MCC. Poor Chapin. Poor us.
When she said Country music artists make a lot of money, I thought Chapin was going to fall out of her chair! The look she gave her. I love Chapin and it is great to see her in any capacity, but this interviewer needs to be fired.
LMAO. The interviewer is such a friggin dope! I love how (around 3:41) Mary starts furrowing her brow and looking around like "Is this bitch for real?"
i haven't seen it yet but at least there's some footage of mary. there aren't enough of these interviews around. i could listen to her talk for hours. as well as sing.
Yeah... I can imagine it'd be difficult to interview or be interviewed by someone you've never met before and know basically nothing about really. For myself, I like to look more at the positives in a given situation and discuss those, rather than to just paste degrading remarks about someone you don't really know. So along those lines... I thought MC looked great, was full of positive energy and handled herself quite well considering the disjointed aspects of the chat.
MCC's commercial period being early- to mid-90s, this chick looks to be about 25, so was probably around 6 when COME ON, COME ON came out (so she was busy listening to New Kids Around the Block, or something equally wretched). Since they rarely play MCC on the radio these days, she'd probably never even heard of her 'til today (she doesn't seem like the type to follow introspective singer-songwriters). They should have sent Harry Smith to interview her. At least he would have had a clue.
@MastersintheMaking Because Chapin is a class act. And having been on both sides (interview/interviewee), that is what you are supposed to do. But that interviewer clearly didn't even conduct the most rudinmentary "google" of the interview subject. She's completely unprepared to the point of insulting (given the artist has won multiple Grammy Awards, several multiplatinum albums, etc). What a shame, what an embarrassment for CBS and what a disservice to MCC.
holy disaster of an interviewer. yeesh. well done MCC. Your new album is incredible and beautiful as usual, and I can't wait to see you in Vienna, VA this summer!!!
@exhodag24 no kidding, what an imbecile! Why can't the morning shows get intelligent, well-read people these day? This chick looks like she should be hanging out at a mall somewhere.
Such a great opportunity, wasted. Horrendous interviewer! I hope someone guides Shira Lazar into being a better interviewer, or at least a competent one!

Dear God, she must be the most inept presenter on TV, wonder who she slept with to get this gig!

Scary! This interview, if you can call it that, is so deeply disturbing I thought it
was a April fools joke or adolescent prank. A silly, vacant, vapid, shallow
& ditsy, glammed-up little girl playing "dress-up" interviewing one
of the most mature and introspective as well as intelligent and gifted women
in art and music? How did MCC hold in there that long w/o snapping or
cracking up in complete hysterical laughter?! Shira Lazar
6 May 1983 (age 27).

If the interviewer was that bad, why was Mary Chapin in such a nice mood with her at the end? Can we give her just a little more slack???
