it's so hard, and it really does have to do with low self esteem and not feeling like you can find another BETTER man who will love you AND want children. when it comes down to it, if you love children and he doesn't, deep down you really do have VERY VERY different values and desires. so at the core, how much do you really have in common? trust me. wanting a family is a big deal. be friends but yeah LOL send him a postcard of your new love, the man who wants to be a "daddy"

I just broke up with my girlfriend, as she always said she wanted kids in 2 years time, when she's 31. I'm 24, and not going to be ready for kids in that timeframe. I always figured about having kids when I finish studying, i.e. after my 28th b'day. So I broke up with her, and now she says she didn't want kids in 2 years but wanted to live together in 2 years and kids in +-4. I.e. she turned the whole story around, and now I feel I reacted too hastily and didn't talk about it properly.

In my situation, my fiancee decided he wanted me more than he wanted something society says everyone should want. However, if he felt strongly about it, I would have let him go. Kids are not for me, and for people who feel strongly one way or another, no one should force them to choose a direction of life which would cause them to be miserable.

My point is that kids should NOT be a make or break topic. People should choose each other because they want to be together. That should be the one and only reason. If a person makes that choice with kids even part of the reasoning process, pro or con they are looser. Anyone who gets married because that want kids is a looser. Anyone who would not marry you because you already have kids is a looser and anyone that would not marry someone who refuses to have kids is a looser you don't need them.

I don't feel that long distance relationships are that hard actually, my husband is in iraq and im 21 years old. I know what i want in life (a bit of comment from your post below) and i believe that if one and or the other partner dosen't want kids (biologically as they didn't specify totally) then they should consider adoption. I think it's social conditioning... My personal opinion is that no one should even think about getting married or having kids until they are 27-28 when they start having a little bit of a clue as to who they are and what they want from life.

There are very few truly "irreconcilable" differences in relationships, but whether or not to have kids is one of them. If one person truly wants kids, and the other doesn't, then SOMEONE is making a sacrifice if they decide to have kids anyway, and that sacrifice will create bitterness later.

I disagree..use your brain. When you are talking about raising children ,the right way,you are talking about doing one the hardest ,most fustraiting and most rewarding thing you will ever do. That is not the time to have someone with you who didnt want kids. It will only lead to resentment on both sides.
