  • I'm curious, I currently ride a 77 KZ1000, Would I be happy with this bike or would I feel kinda bleh about it, I don't drive too fast or any of that crotch rocket bs.

  • @Reduxalicious

No one can possibly answer this question unless you elaborate on what qualities a bike has that makes you happy. Personally, I think the XR1200 is the most practical motorcycle HD has made in a LONG time. It has a more "standard" riding position with the foot pegs under you, where they belong; not stretched way the fuck out under the handlebars. The brakes, suspension, tranny, and engine are nothing to complain about. I suggest sitting on one; if you like that, you're set.

  • as far as I'm convcerned, if you want a cruiser, you have to get a harley, the stlying alone is so much better, and now a days many of the harley prices actually beat japanese bikes, for example, compare a new VROD harley with a Yamaha Vmax, yes the Vmax is no doubt a faster higher performance bike but it is also $5k more than a VROD and still doesnt look as good. Then Compare a 1200 sportster custom with similar japenese bikes, the price is better and you get better finishes and more chrome.

  • @CeletenteFan223

Saying that the "styling is better" is a subjective statement, not an objective one. There is no "best" looking bike as people have different tastes. I think the only good looking bikes from H-D are the Sportster Nightster and the XR1200 line. Many die-hard Harley fans disagree with me. If the company put out more bikes like this XR1200 (a bike that many ignored, btw), I'd have one sitting in my garage. Not everyone wants a 750lb behemoth for cruising around town.

  • @BillieBobSmith you probly just had a piece of shit bike

  • fuck jap anything except dirtbikes cause they dont make any american ones.

  • Showa Forks (Japanese) and Nissin Brakes (Japanese). I think this is a good thing; it shows that Harley actually had some concern for performance when they spec'd this thing! I've always been a sportbike guy but I'd absolutely love to own one of these.

  • i'm from England and currently ride a Honda CX500, first big bike and that did it, i love v-twins. where i live there's some nice twisty roads, slow in and just letting it pull through the corners. it's whatever suits your style, some don't want to ride 4 cylinder arse up, head down screaming in the redline wrist killing sports bikes. anyway what i mean to say is the XR1200 ticks all my boxes, practical riding position, sure looks the part and 97mm stroke. torque! definately my next bike!

  • You can talk about "Jap Crap" and most people who have never ridden metric bikes tend to think that way. Now I'd buy the XR1200, only because it has the "jap crap" electronics in it.

  • @inmate1577 you are trippin ive had a r1 and a ninja both were cheaply made then i went to a aprilia rsv4 which was a great bike crotch rocket style. but now i have a harley sportster and i have to say my favorite bike to ride.

  • u people a fucking ignorant dumbasses if u think this throwback is a good deal, 12.000 dollars for a heavy bike withy a nonadjustable suspension and questionable reliability.

  • The camera man need to show more of the bike than these two dorks

  • Great video, I absolutely hate clicking on a motorcycle video and seeing the actual bike in any detail. I much prefer this combination of gay porn and 700 club. The nice bright, easy to see photography is a motherfucking bonus. Five stars.

  • @jamesandrew2000 haha....classic!

  • soooo gaaay LOL

  • wow.... real brakes and suspension

  • I like this bike. Reminds me of the XR750. I currently have 3 bikes; one is a softail standard, and I really enjoy riding it. It took me a long time and many other bikes before I finally broke down and bought a Harley, and I'm not sorry I did. There's just something special that's more than specs, more than the sum of the parts about a Harley.

  • the resale value of zipper head bikes, is 0 , bar none. why???

  • oct28th 1985 have you ever been to a flat track race.because you might change your mind,.or watch the NHRA,.me and my buds like corky keener,or scott parker, would like to show you a thing or two. MICHIGAN MAFIA!!!!

  • Usually the typical HD rider excuse that their bike isn't made to race is fine and good enough for me. but in this case it is made to race but its garbage. That 1200 doesn't even have the power of the Jap 600's. I really don't see the point of racing one of these bikes. But then again there is a class for road racing miata's so whatever....

  • i'm thinking about this for my first bike because it is heavy and slow vs. crotch rockets... maybe i'll live longer!

  • Really dynasty percussion. The fastest V-twin out there. do you live under a rock! honda rc51 any ducati. btw ducati desmocedici has 200 hp. suzuki sv1000 shall I go on. Heres one, a buell 1125 SAME COMPANY. I appreciate your opinion and I feel your patriotism but I am done waxing philosophic about American crap motorcycles. Enough with the milwaukee Iron. BTW since when does the term Iron induce thoughts of light nimble motorcycles. OH got another one, the harley v-rod . I rest my case

  • @gabriel860 Desmocedici is a v4

  • Comment removed

  • WOW 883r 48 horsepower ,47 ft.lbs. torque and 528 lbs. DRY WEIGHT . How do you control it. GIVE ME ONE GOOD AMERICAN BIKE PLEASSSSEEEEEE!!!!!

  • well i love this bike , this the cousin of sportster 883R , I this 883R , CHECK it out dude !

  • i agree with reapers. I rode one and it sucked. Nowhere near as powerful as I thought. I will stick to my ducati hypermotard.

  • @gabriel860 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect yours but I have to say that you saying the bike is "Nowhere near as powerful as I thought" is a mile off target since it's the fastest v-twin out there and that's just stock. If you rode the bike stock and didn't push it you're only getting half of the story.

Try a modified or stock XR1200 and push it especially if you can put some k-tech pipes on it....wooo wee!!

As stated I respect your opinion and I just gave you mine.

  • I wonder that the rider feels very confortable sitting on it to go far ahead, i have one cross motorcicle, it is cheaper than that other one and it saves more fuel aswell.

  • Do you guys know the HP rating on this bike? Love the swingarm idea, inverted forks, and awesome double caliper brakes.

  • Check out the customized XR1200 on youtube with Seth Enslow jumping it 187 feet! Crazy! Another dude back flips one! Again, I like the looks and style of this bike.

  • nice looking scooter

  • Im buying this bike and I Love it!! I love Harleys and that wonderful sound.I feel this bike suits my needs better then all Ive test driven and I love the story behind it. I'st def different then all my friends Harleys and Dads Ultra Classic but this style of Bike suites me fine! Myrtle Beach at the beach house for Carolina Natives M.C. party here I come!!! I dare to be different!!!

  • @Indarican1 Do it man!

Harley-Davidson mud rats for life!! =P

Enjoy the V-twin power and rumble between your legs because that sucker is getting us all arrested! haha

  • From a dirt track forum:

Can you give any reason why any manufacturer would like to come to a sport in which they were immediately handicapped?

its like saying to a pro soccer player, here good luck with your flat running shoes, try to compete with another pro wearing cleats!

oh and if you happen to get your running shoes to work 1/4 of the time, we will make you play barefoot!

    NO THANKS!

The rules are twisted to favour HD. If it was a level playing field the japs would win easily.

  • Sportsters are utter shit. Mine has rusted so bad Ive gotta get it all repainted. The rear mudguard rusted, the chrome fell off the rear wheel, mirrors bubbled, the laquer on forks failed and the alloy corroded, the chainguard rusted, front rim rusted through etc. My Sportster is an 04 and is kept in a garage. The metal has only one coat of (shit) paint with no primer. It has no chance against UK weather. Come on HD pull your fucking socks up

  • That's why you don't park your bike outside in the weather. If you took proper care of your bike you wouldn't have that problem. I have a 1989 sporty with the original paint and I have no issues with rust or anything else that you are complaining about. Motorcycles should ALWAYS be garaged.

  • @matthewianrush

Always garaged? Bollox. What about when you ride it? Do take an umbrela?

  • I agree with pbmax

  • Just change the oil when needed and most normal riders will never have any problems in their lifetime with this bike.

I love the Harley sound it doesn't whine like the jap bikes. It sounds tough like an AK 47 or a jack hammer.

  • The 1200 is like the old aircraft engine design simple and dependable. The fuel injection keeps it running and starting smoothly. Low maintenance with no coolant to change or worry about. No constant shimming of dual overhead cams. A plastic tank that never causes rust problems or seats during winter storage. The belt drive is an efficient power transfer compared to shaft drives and smoother than chain drives with easier maintenance.

  • I've been riding dirt and street bike over 30 years. I spent this past year on a Harley XR1200 this is what I like about it:

It's not a wind sail like lightweight race bikes, the weight sticks it to the highway when the semi's blast your side with a wall of air. The low end tractor like power is where it's needed. Face it in the real world the highway is not a race track. Common sense tells you we don't need to go much over 100 mph the low revving good mileage bikes are what's needed.

  • very comfortable bike especialy for taller riders

  • Harley make awesome cruisers but they should leave the naked bikes to the Euros they do it better check out a Speed Triple or a 990 Super Duke or a Brutale this just looks tacked together?

  • The XR1200 is designed after their famed XR750 dirt track bike. The design wasn't just thrown together, it was born from years of dirt track successes.

  • How many miles to the tank does the xr 1200 get? Also, is it chain drive or belt? Thanks!

  • saw a guy on one of those yesterday, I gave him a thumbs up and he gave me a nod

  • The new Sporster line is absolutely beautiful. Not only does it include this bike, but it also incuded my new favorite all time, the Iron 883. The 1200 is freaking gorgeous too. And the good news, the Iron is relatively cheap :) It's gunna be my first bike ever! I can't wait.

  • Oh my dear sweat god, I wont that bike, look out samcroe!!!

  • buell is not harley ... no matter how people like to babble it around in their skull ...

Harley is a breed apart from the masses .

    Well done H-D .

  • uh, dude.

  • After riding for 38 years, British, Japanese, and German bikes, I believe that Ill never own an American bike. Harleys are tractors and many, if not most of their riders are now posers. The company is a big deal on Wall Street. Big Frikin Deal. They are not enthusiasts, they are suits, period! Long Live the Enthusiast!

  • To each his own man. People who ride Harley ride them for reasons that aver probably very different from yours to ride metric bikes. Or you're just jealous lol

  • Thats to bad that v-rod can't turn for shit, i like to lean not go straight.

  • You think this pile of parts handles lad? I bet you've neven ridden this or a Vrod in your life chap. What a plonka.

  • Bet you haven't ether

  • Didn't Evel Kneivel have an '82 Harley XR750? I recently watched a movie called Evel Knievel and loved the Harley in it. It was so... awesome!

Anyways, this ain't no 750cc. It's a 1200. It's a road bike. I love the light scrambler style bikes. LIGHT. FLICKABLE. DIRT WORTHY.

This is a road bike. Don't get me wrong, it is nice. But 1200cc? Are you kidding? You enjoy it. I'll just admire.

  • Why is everyone shitting on this bike? It's not meant to compete with 'Busas. It's simply a Sporty that is a little more performance-oriented. It may not blow the doors off a car, but it's definitely NOT slow. Anyone ever heard of a "cafe cruiser"? In the US, at least, there aren't a lot of these kind of bikes around. The Evo engine is pretty torquie, too and has a nice sound. The styling is sweet.

As a V-Rod owner, I would definitely consider having one of these as a second bike ;-)

  • i love harley but i think the new 1200XR it looks like harley trying to get into the street bike business.

  • That's called Buell

  • except Buell's look like crap where as this actually looks good. Coming from a street/sport rider, that is saying a lot.

  • i agree. i don't think the buells look bad, but this bike definitely looks sweet.

  • @valakin I've owned a 2004 BUELL XB12S and i test rode a XR1200 and let me tell you the XR1200 is crap in comparison. Power, Brakes, Suspension, handeling all in the BUELL's favor. And as for looks there wasn't a day that i took it out that i didnt get a compliment from all different people and all different riders. You wont understand untill you ride one. I'm thinking of getting a 1125cr for my next bike. I really hate HD for how they screwed buell over.

  • has onyone ridden one yet? i sat on one at the dealers, and now im ready to move on up to one, but im afraid it might be too much bike for me.

  • Yeah, I've ridden one. It's an easy bike to ride. It'll get up and go if you want it to, but that's up to you.

  • Helped with demo rides one day. Rode all the products, and at the end of the day, this is the one I would pick to ride home. Ive ridden a lot of bikes in my 36 yrs of riding motorcycles, and this one is in the top 10 or maybe even 5. And its not all about HP to go fast. A skilled rider will smoke an average rider on a more powerful bike any day.

  • they are very popular down here in Brazil as well

  • @panzerKO nunca vi, so ums fatboys

  • people of earth: motorcycles, regardless of "herkunft" as we say here, are all mass produced to incur the lowest cost possible for the manufacturer. triumphs, harleys, ducatis, buells, cagivas, husqvarnas, bmws... let's cut out the my-continent-can-beat-up-your-continent jingoism and simply ride.

  • I was driving around town today and I just happened to pass by a harley dealer to witness one of the most beautiful bikes i've ever seen. I just had to park my car and take a closer look. Man i tell u I found my soulmate! Every single inch on that baby represents true craftmanship o and the engine, that thing is a freakin alpha lion trying to get out. Go check it out u wont be dissapointed I promise

  • Put in my order for one yesterday 3 month wait nut cant wait to get it 11 k in pewter

  • 3 month wait??? We've had one sitting on the show room floor for 3 months. We can hardly get people to even look at it.

  • Are you kidding me that sux my dealer in MA cant keep em in stock had one and it sold that day. Now Im on the list money down and waiting :(

  • That really does suck. I guess the market is quite different depending on location. I live in Iowa and I don't see many Buells, Ducatis and such. But when I lived in Colorado it was just the opposite. Buells, Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, BMW's etc.... they were everywhere. I would imagine the XR1200 would do well there as well.

  • I traded my Triumph Speed Triple in for one of these, normally id choose a british bike over an american anyday, until this one came out and i have to admit, it kicks my Triumphs ass.

  • How bout just shut up and ride your bike you fucking bunch of wankers....Christ, I bet 3/4 of you assholes have never even been on a bike..

  • wow geniales

  • That is one sweet bike and I ride a Yamaha FZ6R sport bike. But that is beautiful.

  • i think it's a awesome bike

  • You can tell the guys who realy love motorcycle from the ones who like bikes. The ones who dont own bikes and just like bikes talk crap about a brand cause it,s not theres.I love my suzuki and i would love to have this bike..Most the crap comments is comeing from non riders, non bike owners...Theres alot of haters on here .

  • ok plain and simple, its a harley and unless you have been to the world famous springfield mile to see a pack of 20 riders going past the grandstands at 130 mph you have no right to bash this bike. it makes perfect sense, would be an awesome bike to ride, and it doesnt need a modern ohc motor to be a great bike. i praise h-d for bringing this bike to the u.s.a and frankly if i could afford this bike i guarantee i would have one!

  • this isn't about age, it's about style and class, which shitty bikes like suzukis and yamahas just don't have

  • no, i'm quite serious. we'll give you a theoretical situation: you pull up on the strip in your town in a honda civic, and some guy pulls up next to you in a chevy bel air. which one will draw the attention? the mass-produced ricer or the character of the american muscle?

    i rest my case

  • LIES! ide take a floor room bel-air over a tuned anything....anyday!

  • That's a frickin sweet bike!

  • Im not to thrilled about the Euro help in the design, but it isnt a totally bad looking bike, wouldnt mind riding one, but dont think ill be trading in my Softail for one. And all the Harley bashers on here, whats up with you pukes watching our videos ? Must be jelous and envious, or you wouldnt be watching vids of bikes you say you dont like. I know why i own a Harley, its AMERICAN made, it holds great resale value, and is very dependable. If you dont like em, dont b watching thier vids !!!!!

  • Mate, well, I would think if i was European, id be totally in love with Ducatis and Triumphs, or bikes made in Europe. As an American, I simply stand behind what my country makes, the best cruiser/touring bikes available in the world. I know Harley is tied to Buell, but, I have never put Buells in the same class as Harleys. Thats all, American Steel over jap plastic anyday. Im not looking for speed or something to blast corners, im looking for the best motorcycle period....HARLEY !!!

  • Well, feel free to wear out your shoes then bud, Ill wave when i cruise by on my Harley. Japs perfected the crotch rocket, if ya wanna go fast, then buy one, its fine, i dont have a problem with that, but I havent seen a jap cruiser yet that wasnt laiden with plastic, and a copy of the style of a Harley. Cheap made, no value, a dime a doze are the jap cruisers. I dont ride Harleys for speed, I ride them for the ride itself, wind in my face, free, and no worries. Jap crap isnt bogus, its fact !!!

  • I ride motorcross, (an area that HD always got smoked in with the over weight 250) and rode many street bikes. I like the looks of this bike because it is diferent from the cookie cutter HD that you see as often as stop signs these days.

  • @ontarget08 You seem to easily forget that Harley back in the day copied alot of their designs from Indian. And the Vrod took a lot of designs from Ducatti and other manufacturers. Now do i honestly care if they did? absolutely not. As long as they can improve upon something that currently exists then that is perfectly fine with me.

  • @ontarget08 XR1200 HAS ALOT OF MADE IN JAPAN ON IT, NOW THATS A FACT

  • @ontarget08 finally someon who understands! im not a sport rider im i rider that happens to own a sport at a moment

  • 2:29 ... Nissin brakes eh? Wonder why the HD emblem replace the Nissin name on the caliper. Is it b/c Nissin is a Japanese brand? Interesting.

  • lots of company's paint there name on to the brake caliper on, most high performance cars, use Brembo brakes, and the manufacturers, paint there name on the the caliper, like Nissan did for the GT-R.

  • Another try at fogging an old engine.zzzzzzz Desperado's?

  • Thank Euro-trash?!

For what, that bike is fucking ugly.

If I want a sport bike I'll go buy a Buell but if I just want to cruise around I'll take a real Harley.

Why do these clowns feet the anti Harley bull shit anyway?

My bike has 4 piston caliper and inverted front end, ect, ect.

Other than the mid-lifers Harley guys know far more about that stuff than the average sport bike twink, who pay somebody else to change his oil.

  • 95 % of all bike riders wish they could afford a harley. the other 5% are LIARS

  • Almost anybody can afford a Harley, motorcycles are not expensive. Only the super exotic stuff like the Ducati R-series and D16RR as well as some MV agustas and HD screaming eagles models could be considered truly expensive and out of reach for your average person.

  • Close enough Godfather. The tired old, You wouldn't understand cliche. YAWN. What this really means is that Harley owners don't actually know why they are Harley owners, other than that is what other people do and all of those other people can't be wrong, can they? This is a common reflex defense that basically says I'm a Harley owner but don't ask me to explain it to you because you just wouldn't understand mainly because I don't understand it either. I just do as I am told by the herd.

  • Harley Davidson - turning fuel into noise without the benefit of horsepower for over 100 years.

  • LOL.. My Sportster Makes Noise AND Horsepower.. 116hp to be exact. Which still isnt alot when compared to the sport bikes, but at over 95lbs of torque, it will pull on almost anything out there.

  • this bike is my dream and greatest wish! I need money...it will be mine.)))

  • xr1200

  • check out storz performance, he has been offering this bike for a long time. I have a roadster that I have modified the suspesion and added a 1/4 fairing and spolier and its fun to ride and a head turner. anyone who would compare to a superbike is a idiot! I like my bike because it has the cruiser comfort with some handling. nice medium. need to buy a buell and a streetglide then I would have a ll the styles covered

  • just like my guitars, i am a fan of Gibson guitars. now there might be a "better" and cheaper guitar made by someone else for the same style of music, but I want the look and feel of a Gibson.

    we all have different tastes!!!

  • i'm with midas. it just sounded like typical harley-hating to me, and with incorrect specs, no less!!!

i ride a Harley. i've seen a Harley t-shirt that reads (something like) "If you don't get it, I can't explain it to you." - SO true!!!i like this bike a lot, but wouldn't dream of buying a similar ducati, or anything else.

  • I love it, my friend just picked one up and now I have to get one!

  • they are having a one make race series in england 09 season using these...they will gain popularity from this... harleys do have soo much character..but i think you need to own a 2nd bike as well when you have a harley

  • Iv'e had enough of the crotch rockets, and iv'e had my left hand stitched back on, so one of these would suit me nicely I should think, now, how to get the 17,000 together that there asking here in oz........thats with out on road costs of course!

  • Here's the thing though, I'm skeptical. How do you get around the near 700 pounds of weight/low horsepower/primitive suspension?

I'm interested, but I'd see myself having a better time aboard a Ducati 696 for the money.

  • 550 lbs, at least get your facts right if you got something to say.

"Primitive suspension" you say, works fine for me...........Get a life mate!

  • "Get a life"??Wtf does that mean. Brennafugg made a great point about the bike and you're knocking him for doing that? I own both HD's and Duc's and there is no way in hell i'd rather throw a harley around some s-turns instead of a duc.

  • If he is gonna make a comment he should get his facts right, he put the XR at 150lbs heavier than it is!

Just another HD hater as far as i can see.

The Ducati is a sports bike the XR is a sporty Harley and does not pretend to be a sports bike. He shouldn't be comparing the two.

I own an XR and a softail and i'm sick of people comparing the XR to all out sports bikes.

Because my friend, that aint what it is. bikes.

If he wants to compare the Ducati to something it should be a Buell.........

  • OK, i hold my hands up, i just read Brennafugg's post again, i miss read the bike he was comparing it to, i thought he had typed 996.

But i stand by the stuff about comparing the XR to sports bikes, that's been done a lot. And it is 150lbs lighter than he says it is.

  • I hear ya. I'm interested in the XR1200, but i'm a bit hesitant to drop the coin for it because it seems like it's a hybrid of sorts. I dunno, maybe i'll go to the dealer come february and take one out for a spin. Then again, the last thing i need is another bike note to pay each month. Ride safe man.

  • You to mate, stay safe.

And why not just go have a test ride for the hell of it. I THINK YOU MAY LIKE!!!!...lol

  • looks good

  • Great motorcycle! All I would want is a set of clip-ons and and open exhaust.
