  • this is for DALTON TAYLOR who just passed i miss you brother and you will always b my BROTHER THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE THAT NIGHT

  • Bwahhhh D; cant stop crying and shivering!

  • @rikkio my uncle served with u he past 9/8/11 he had more than enough purple hearts thank u for ur service

  • John Rimel is currently my 8th grade english teacher! its kinda weird that he wrote a #1 song.

  • Should have been a # 1 song and single of the year in 1989 for the Statler Brothers. The best song they ever recorded.

  • @hotrod824, not all of my generation dishonored our brave warriors from nam, ilost an older cousin, my personal hero,in 68 the THET offensive ,the war was a political nightmare and wrong, but as always our poor and working class men and women had to do the dirty work, while our upper class and wealthy made money from their sacrifice. How many KENNEDYS or ROCKEFELLERSS etc. DIED in NAM? NOT ONE!!!

  • Every time I hear this song, I cant help but to remember what I did Ms Rattee from Wales, Mass but getting a rubbing of her son's name from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial but I gave her more than just the rubbing. I also gave her a book on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and where her son's name is on the wall To Carl I say this "THANK YOU FOR YOU LOVE TO SERVE YOU TOWN AND COUNTRY WHEN WE NEED YOU" TO THE OTHERS FROM WALES "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" WITH LOVE PAUL FRANCIS LAVOIE, JUNIOR

  • Last month, I got selected by my local American Legion Auxilliary to participate in Girls State. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it, but I was playing around on YouTube a few days after and I came across this. I know it might sound odd, but hearing this song made me decide to go. It is a chance for members of my generation to learn about the importance of God and country, because we have to preserve this nation that the Vietnam Veterans worked so hard to defend.

  • To those who served... Thank you.

To those who disagree.. those names show some who paid full price for you to disagree

To those on the wall... you will never be forgotten

  • Had friends die there. Saw returning veterans spit on. Had fistfights with the idiots doing the spitting. Argued with people till I was hoarse. This song brings back vivid, painful memories. That is why I MUST listen to it every so often. NEVER FORGET.

  • I served in nam 71-72 on the RIVER BOATS. I came home and was not welcome. It hurts now to see that the troops that come home now from Iraq get a pat on the back, but we were spit on. SAME COUNTRY AND THE SAME GI'S. WHAT GIVES!!!!!

  • @hotrod824 I served 70-71 UH-1 C/E door gunner. By what we went through coming home, we will not let it happen to any of the vets who come home NOW!! Maybe the country has learned from our time, that you can hate the WAR and love and honor the WARRIOR??!! WELCOM HOME BRO!!

  • Never Forget!!!!!

  • I have a brother and cousin on "The Wall". So this song has a very special meaning to me and my family. I can see my mom as she ran her finger across my brother's name and the sadness in her eyes...thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

  • God Bless ALL who served the USA! Thank you and may God be with you!

  • What a beautiful Song. Thanks to the veterans. I will be flying my flag tomorrow on Veterans day.

  • the Statlers hit #6 in Billboard, 8-5-89. God bless y'all, Statlers!

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful, touching song.

  • well done..

  • Do not go to other countries to kill to be killed, then any sad wall like this you will not have build

  • Thanks for going and doing your duty when others turned tail and ran , the men on this wall are not only heroes they are the American Spirit of which this country has survived . There are no words that will take the heart ache of people that lost a son , father, uncle , mom , dad or any other kind of relation in Vietnam. I am proud to say I have served with some who were there and got to know others who had been there also.

  • my friends grandpa is one that wall

  • i would to say how pround of our troops and my uncle Andrew Gust Richard whos nasme is on the kia in Vietnam on 06 19 68 and everybody name that is on that and every wall

  • I have never once looked down a Vietnam vet and i never will i salute every last one and even more so those who paid the ultimate price.

  • I know it's the wrong war. I know we don't have a wall of our own. I miss you like crazy. In my family, Sgt. Alvarez is a hallowed name. You don't have a wall or a plaque. You have my kids. They know your name. They love you as much as I do. Sgt. Alvarez you are not forgotten, we remember you.

  • @johnandersonii You give me names and I'll tell them myself.

  • @johnandersonii ---I did not know Sgt. Alvarez or of him. But if he died for this country, he is my hero too. The reason people of my generation get so emotional about our boys from the Vietnam war is that they were treated like they were dirt by some of their fellow Americans on their arrival back home. Thank God that no longer happens. But bitterness is part of my generations makeup. I hope it is NEVER so with yours.

  • To MarineMom 1969 I will agree with you that Maurice will be found. God Bless You Gal. Matt. 18:19

  • God bless all those who have served and continue to serve in defense our United States of America! There is no debt large enough to repay you for your sacrifice! As a veteran myself, I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with those who seek to defend my country! I love my country and I love you all...both past and present!!! Thank you!!!

  • Great song, great country we live in.....bless all our troops from yesterday, today and tomorrow

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs I have a distant cousin whos name is on that black granite wall He was listed as MIA for many a years and then declared dead However, his remains have never been recovered Makes ya wonder dosen's it? Hes the only MIA from our county. Whereever you are Maurice, may God be with you! I have mixed emotions on the whole story behind him However for all the other names that are on that wall I have an undying and never ending love and respect for them all

  • This song still brings tears to my eyes.

  • @istjusme It brings tears to my eyes too every time I hear it. I cannot help but think of my cousin that was killed in Vietnam in 1969. I was 15 years old at the time and have never gotten over it. The circumstances surrounding his death were horrible - not a battle related death. Those circumstances are shameful for this country and made his death even more unbearable.

  • Very well done. Makes me proud to have graduated from MHS (MASH back then)

    Really hits home.

  • Thanks to all vets who served in all of Ameica's wars for their courage and sacrifice. Having my oldest about to deploy makes this so special. As a teacher, you are really teaching your students about a special kind of person who'll give what required for everyone's freedom.

  • God Bless all our troops......" Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends " Semper Fi

  • .Here's what he wrote

IT IS THE SOILDIER, NOT THE REPORTER WHO HAS GIVEN US THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS IT'S THE SOLDIER, NOT THE POET WHO HAS GIVEN US FREEDOM OF SPEECH IT'S THE SOLDIER NOT THE CAMPUS ORGANIZER WHO HAS GIVEN US THE FREEDON TO DEMONSTRATE IT'S THE SOLDIER WHO SALUTES THE FLAG WHO'S SERIVES BENEATHE THE FLAG AND WHOSE COFFIN IS DRAPED BY THE FALG WHO ALLOWS THE PROTESTER TO BURN THE FALG.

I want every soldier to come back to their family's were they belong.

  • I got this from a Veitnam site when I was trying to find were my uncle was kiled, it's was writting by

FATHER DENIS EDWARD O'BRIEN USMC AND I THANK THAT THE POEPLE IN DC NEED TO READ IT AND THANK THE ONES WHO DIDN'T COME BACK A HELL OF A THANK YOU.

  • I play a game called "Day of defeat" (world war II) and i heard as an connection sound just that song...

  • My dad was on a ship during Vietnam. He came home. This song has always made me cry and y'all did an awesome job with this video. Thank you.

  • everyone should here this from every age

  • What a great song. So much meaning and so true. We were at The Wall when we went out to Staunton in 1983. for the 4th of July Happy Birthday USA show. It certainly does something to you that can't be explained. The Statlers really know how to honor the VN Vets and Jimmy wrote a heart warming song. that we will never forget. My husband is a VN vet and each time we saw them sing this song in concert it was always very emotional for both us. Thanks Statlers

  • 58,000 plus!

  • You did an excellent job with this video. It quadrupled the effect of the song, and it was easy to picture my own little boy's face in some of the photos. But my boy's still alive Memorial Day 2009.

I think I'll go give him a big ole kiss right now!

  • To all the veterans that read this, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service to this country. Freedom is not cheap, thousands paid the ultimate price for it. Let us not forget it.

  • This is for my buddys who didnt make home from Nam........I will never forget you guys ....Tommy.....dennis......marty.......peenee.......you guys saved my life on that hill so long ago.............when im alone i cry when i remember that God Damn day .........marty,......you were so shot-up but yet you fought till the end....i still have my nights that i wake up screaming and crying.........the hurt is still there after all these years...My friends WE WILL SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN! • I was a combat paramedic, in 1968. I hope I was able to keep some names off that wall. For those I couldn't, I'll be forever sorry.

  • My Dad's best friend from high school was killed in Vietnam in 1967. I rented a house from his mother in the '90's. She was a cool old woman, lol, she'd come over and drink beer with me, lol. This song reminds me of her and makes me cry everytime.

  • Now that I have pulled mysel together thank you, this song has always torn at my heart but the way this video was put together just tore me apart. I had the privalige of escorting the traving wall 2 weeks ago. Thank you again you did a fantastic job.

  • This song was a #1 country hit for the Statler Brothers in 1989. I used to be a DJ for a country radio station and this song would bring tears to my eyes each time I'd play it. Great video. Good job, students!

  • they are probably the best country music group for harmony.they improved after jimmy joined the group.not to take anything away from lew,i just think jimmy is much better.don and harold reed'd 2 sons are keeping the sound alive.they call themselves grandstaff, jimmy is going solo so i hear.he will make,i believe.

  • this song brought tears to my eyes, everybody has lost somebody special

  • Please say a prayer for my friend, Heinz Ruchti, who was killed in Vietnam, at 18 years old, only 4 months after he was sent over. I really miss him. Thank you.

  • JULY 4,1776 the day our constitution was signed.thank god for the brave young men who fought to make us free.they were our first american heros. thank god for all our military men and women who have followed in their footsteps.if not for them we can omly imagine the life we would living today. russia thought they could come thru our back door via cuba. kruschev said we'll bury you. we sent him home with his tail between his legs.if you're patriotic some assholes on here don't like it.USA USA USA

  • Thank you to those who served in Vietnam. The heroes who are listed here and definately more than a name on a wall.

  • Rikki0, sorry for my stupidity!! I totally agree with you!!! Have a GRRREAT day!!

  • Thank you for your kind reply, stihl. We all say things we later wish we had put differently. And I also wish to thank you caring about our fallen, which you obviously do. Semper Fi, my friend.

  • my great-grandfather was in the Grand army of the republic- my grandfather in WW1 , my Dad in WW2 and I was in Viet Nam -- when I See our great country --I realize the price we must pay for it's freedom --including Iraq and Afghanistan

  • Thank you. If not for brave men like you, my country would be under communist rule. Many people do not care about this but our freedom was and still is paid in the blood of the US troops in Vietnam, and now, the War on Terror.

  • I was in Nam 70-71. I came back. I have a wife, kids and grandkids. I have Christmas, birthdays, Thanksgivings and much more with my family. Things these kids will never have. They gave everything they had or would ever have had. They will be nineteen forever. These are my heroes so please, don't diminish their sacrifice by saying it was done for " rich and powerful trash " or politicians or the like. They died for their country. Their sacrifice was for you. Thank you for posting this Coach.

  • Rikki0 and Oaklandborn,

Thank you. If not for brave men like you, my country would be under communist rule. Many people do not care about this but our freedom was and still is paid in the blood of the US troops in Vietnam, and now, the War on Terror.

  • Thank you most kindly for your kind words, meepokman1. That you are free and can sleep in peace tonight is thanks enough. Many of mine and Oaklandborn's brothers sacrificed far more than we did. Tomorrow is a day to remember them and I know you will. Semper Fi, my friend. God bless you and yours.

  • Sorry to speak for you, Oaklandborn. But I didn't think you would mind too much.

  • @Rikki0 Beutiful words Rikki0, I agree with everyone of them!

  • @Rikki0 Thank you for your service to our country. I also want to thank each and every veteran for paying the price for my freedom. My husband and our son both served our country and I'm proud to say they are my family. Our son served a tour in Iraq and I heard this song on the radio while he was there... was almost too much.

I would be honored and proud to give you a hug or shake your hand, look you in the eye and say "Thank you" in person.

  • @triciayb I am certain that your husband and son are equally proud to have you as their wife and mother. Consider the "Thank you" done. As far as giving me a hug you can take care of that too. Just give it to your husband and son and tell them that former Marine Sargeant Moore said, " Welcome home ". Semper Fi, m'lady.

  • @Rikki0 I Salute You Sir! Semper Fi. Well said. You have a lot of class.

  • @Rikki0 Thank you for your service and may God bless you and your family. There isn't a day go by i don't say and extra prayer for you and everyone who has ever served our great nation. Again....THANK YOU!!!

  • @STEVELOVESMARIA Thank you for the kind words. For remembering and caring. That's all we ever really wanted. And some dry socks, heh.

  • many thanks

  • Thank you - we must never forget

  • I agree 100% with mundymanor!

  • Thank You

  • PFC James C. Bice It aint on the wall but should be

  • Never Again - let happen what happened to the brave soldiers that went through Vietnam...each and every one of them was a hero.

Never let our troops today have to face the cruelty that these heroes faced.

    God Bless them all!

  • You hit the nail on the head with this video. Our fallen heroes are for sure more than a name on a Wall. Thanks the post.

  • I think this song should be sung or played every year on Veteran's Day. I don't know why it isn't. There is no better song than this one to put a face on our fallen soldiers.

  • Thanks for this video. I spent 3 years in Vietnam and grieve every hour of every day for my Marine brothers who are listed on that wall. This country's loss is absolutely immeasurable.

Again, you are to be congratulated for the quality of your teaching. You students are very lucky.

  • Excellent video thank you so much.

  • Thank you all SO much for creating and posting this video!
