I believe a replacement bridge is due to open in 2011. Right now, a seasonal ferry service is the only way across, although I understand they're trying to keep it going during the winter at least till mid-February.
God that was a part of my history..... we crossed it all the time; i will never forget that brige and it will live in my memory, yes imma freak but i am very sentimental
I have driven over that bridge so many times over the yrs. It makes me sad to see it go. I remember when they filmed "What lies beneath" around that bridge. So much history, down the tubes. When I'm in the area next year visiting relatives, on the NY side it won't be the same. :(
So, I pulled up a little spot next to a van figuring that in a rush I could duck and cover. Well, then things filled up and the van generator started up. Instant background noise with no place to go.
Felt the shockwave all the way up in burlington on this day.

Too bad spend happy Gov Patterson wasn't there. He wouldn't have been able to see it anyway.
