Moydrum Castle near Athlone Co Westmeath. paricquirke's directions are correct, check out the RTE broadcasting station nearby, it's what had "Athlone" written on many transistor radios for years.

Craggy Island isn't a real place. The house itself is on the Irish mainland near Lisdoonvarna in County Clare.

It's near Athlone. It's called Moydrum Castle. To get to there, take the first exit off the N6 westbound after Kilmartin's Roundabout. Go right. You'll see a sign for Mount Temple on your right, take that. A few miles down the road (past 'Tubs & Tiles') you'll see Moydrum forest on your right. Take your next right turn, ignore the next road veering off to your right and you should see the castle.

i must check that out sometime when i'm down that way. i was father teds house myself last year, but the dogs there nearly ate the feckin hole off me lol. i cant believe its just an ordinary house - they should turn it into a tourist attraction. 10 years after it finished and its still as popular as ever!

Very good! One Father Ted fansite give the rough location of a few places they used to film at.

Most are in and around Co. Clare, the magic road is supposed to be very har to find, mainly because it actually isn't as near to St Kevin's stump as it appears.

The parochial house is enormous, and is absolutely in the middle of nowhere, even by the standards of the Burren. The brother knows the current occupants so I've visited. You have to really. I think it was the owner of Vaughans who pointed the Ch4 researchers in the right direction..
