When u get in heavily populated areas and see smog, a lot of that OS particulate matter from exhaust, and soot is particulate matter,so yes diesels cause just as much pollution as gas engines.
@ArMyStRoNg2003 actually the black smoke is partially burnt fuel. you are thinking of white smoke, that is what happens when the fuel doesnt combust at all.
do they come form the factory in a single cab short wide or do you have to like cut the frame and put a short bed on it. i love the way this truck look
Black smoke is soot, but the properties of it are mostly unburned fuel.. thats why ford started the regenitive fueling system and chevy did the coned chambered exaust..
@kawasakirider78 i'm not so sure that the black smoke that beast emmits is that clean....i know diesel engines are far better at mpg and emmisions but....
@dirtbikernick this one is not. Performance chips like this one cause too much fuel to be injected and than burned off in the exhaust, causing the black smoke. Newer stock diesels with full exhaust systems are cleaner than gas motors, yes, but this one definitely is not.
@foxracing279: it depends on what you consider is polluting, but in this precise cass, I don't think it is environment friendly.....well, USA , as usual....
@Kheops63 The suit falls to the ground and degrades, It doesnt pollute the air. Even a diesel rolling coal like that is better for the environment than most petroleum engines. But hey I honestly dont give a fuck about the environment, I just like rolling coal on toyotas.
@foxracing279: you should search for "Nox", and things falling to the ground don't "degrade", they pollute in a different way, maybe (and I say maybe....)not your lumbs, but something else!
@Kheops63 your "NOx" is produced more by petroleum engines than diesels. Like I said diesels don't pollute the air nearly as bad as petroleum engines. The suit falls to the ground, it may pollute the ground a little bit but honestly not enough to matter, Hell your tires pollute the ground. Its not like all diesels smoke like this all the time. This is running rich for the dyno. On normal circumstances the diesels are better for the environment than whatever 4 cylinder your driving.
Pre powerstroke 7.3s were internationals yes they were idi with a mechanical pump, not the most reliable longest lasting, the 12v cummins is hands down, 24vs are good to ex for that damn vp44 (pre 04.5) pump that's on them
@dontbsadberad fords stopped there contract with international not to long ago for the new 2011 models that are ford built motors till then all where international. and the vp44 was only on dodge trucks from the year of 1998.5 to 2002
@gunther101234 7.3 was an international engine and its known as the longest lasting engine in these size trucks, and the 6.4 can make over 600 hp with tuner and exhaust.
Actually the longest running most reliable diesel in a Pick up truck was the 12v Cummins that used the P 7100 pump. They were nick name the Million Engine. The PSD 7.3 were a good engine but had their fare share of injector issues.
Actually the longest running most reliable diesel in a Pick up truck was the 12v Cummins that used the P 7100 pump. They were nick name the Million Mile Engine. The PSD 7.3 were a good engine but had their fare share of injector issues.
Well I am pretty you have no clue what you are talking about cause powerstroke didn't an engine because it is a name not a company International builds the 7.3, the 6.0 and the 6.4. Ford is supposed to build their own engine in the near future but that is a rumor.
And Isuzu makes the durmax but we dont call it an isuzu diesel. The 7.3 6.0 and 6.4 are all called Powerstroke by International and have been since 94. Before that they were IDI without the powerstroke name attached.
You are right I work for an international dealership as a mechanic. As far as you saying that the engine in the ford truck out doing the international trucks there are a few programming differences but the is about it. International did not program them for the horsepower the fords have. If you ask me they are all junk that's why I have a job.
@MrCbutter45 Youre right about ford thinking about coming out with their own motor...IMO i think thats a big mistake. There was talk about ford signing with CAT, that would be genius in my opinion.
Cat would probably be a good idea but they quit building truck engines due to the EPA making it so hard to pass emissions for diesels they won't be building anythine for ford I don't think
That's too bad. Ford could really use a good motor for their trucks. You would have to basically give me a ford with the 6.0 or 6.4. They're garbage IMO. Guy I know with a new 550 only 25000 miles and the 6.4 has been out of the truck 3 times.
Cummins would be a good option but the 6.7s are having all sorts of issues too now. Shoulda left them mechanically driven instead of all computer driven. Duramax is the only motor that they haven't changed
True true I don't what is going to happen but the EPA should have just left it alone cause a geo metro puts out worse emissions then most diesels do but always mess up what is working and making people money. Once again the poor get poorer and rich get richer i guess that is life
The fords have a 6.4 in them right now and cummins built a 6.7 liter b series that is going into the dodge but I haven't heard anything about ford having a 6.7, the 6.4 is built by international also
Go to Ford's website and check out the upcoming Super Duty. They will have an in-house built 6.7... Also a new 6.2 gas. I can't wait to see it in person!
Navistar made the powerstrokes more specifically the 6.0 and the 6.4 not to sure on the 7.3. The 6.0 were garbage and problematic that's why they made the 6.4 which is pretty decent. Navistar tried screwing Ford buy upping the price of the engines but Ford didn't want any of it so they dropped them and are making their own diesel.
I would prefer a cummins but their rights are with dodge atm, iirc the f650/750 use cummins or caterpillar. want to start a f150 4x4 project with a 4bt cummins :)
@Battlefield2Lvr i wasnt too sure but i know the 94 was a powerstroke some say powerstroke didnt come till 96' but my uncles 94 says powerstroke right on the valve covers...
The powerstroke did come out in '94 that is when it went electronic and not mechanical. Also direct injection and not pre-cup in-direct injection or idi. You are correct.
By the way i have a 6.0 and have no issues with it, mainly because the truck is after the june 05 build date. the 6.0 always had the one major problem from its inception in the middle of 02, and that was that it had smaller and thus weaker head bolts. Under heavy strain and load it was noted that these bolts would warp and stretch causing blown head gaskets and further damage.
Ford claims navistar knew this and thus ford sued navistar. Navistar claimed not knowing and sued Ford because Ford was trying to charge Navistar for the supposed warrenty work that would be done if this issue occured under warrenty. Though if you have a 6.0 and this happens to you under powertrain warrenty ford (in Canada) will not service and fix this free of charge.
Also the main reason for this major issue was the fact that the 6.0 did produce higher torque numbers then the 7.3 and there for the same 3 speed w/O that was used in the 7.3 was kept for the 6.0 thus causing emense strees on the block as it couldn't handle the incressed rpms and higher speeds. This issue was solved by introducing the 4 speed w/O torque shift transmission in 2005.
@Looptydude im doing a similar project except maybe a dif year, after im done my jeep im turning my DD a 94 f150 2wd long bed into a 5.9 cummins 4x4 5spd lifted on 37 with an offset 10" stack
@Looptydude - I remember this rumor, I actually have been working at an international dealer since march and there are 6.4's in these trucks as well. I think Navistar has been there all along, even the 7.3 aka International's 444. At our shop the 7.3 is the favorite. Really tuff engines. The 6.4's are sooo complicated to fix.
Wow, gorgeous truck! i am in the process of the same swap myself right now. Cummins all the way baby! None of that thirteen letter shit spreader international garbage!!!
ima tell yuh.. NAVISTAR made the powerstroke lol.. international didnt make any engine for a light duty pickup (navistar=ford) (isuzu=chevy) and of course cummins went into a dodge. ford didnt start making their own engine until 2010 with their 6.7 liter twin scroll turbo engine.. that being said.. DAMN NICE TRUCK
gizmo98550:: You should check your facts before posting on here. Some people that get on here to look at stuff like this know what they are talking about and ford, first off does not have a 6.7 liter diesel engine in their chassis, second they did not build the engine that is in their chassis right now navistar/international is still. But what do I know I only work for an international dealership???
ide guess not enough.. go look it up ford makes their own engines now for the F250 and F350 pickups 6.7 liter code named the "scorpion" made by them and a joint venture with bosch the company that makes parts for ford
Well first thing I'd probably check again I said that right now they are putting the 6.4 in the chassis right NOW. Yes right NOW. I also said they are building their own. Then I would probably use spell check so you don't look like you can't read or spell. Just saying.
sorry I know about ford not fitting cummins, I forgot cause the grill looks similar, I didnt know about the heavy duty and single cab stuff, Im from UK we dont have these here, well rarely anyway.
If I was to have an american truck I would like a ford 6.9 or 7.3idi, they seem good on fuel to, saw an f150 or250 with an ambulance box on the bed, he got over 20mpg, my mates 2.5 diesel only gets 23mpg!
u do NOT want a 6.9...they are albolute junk. i work at a ford dealership on the new ford diesels, and i talk with all the old techs.,,they are shit. the early 7.3s weren't that great. the actual powerstroke 7.3 on the other hand its great
The only real problem with them are some cavitation issues that can be fixed easily if taken care of in time, the fact that some of them are non-turbo, and that they don't have much power. At least the 6.9's. They still make a pretty damn good truck.
Those engines are made my International not Ford. Ford is however coming out with their very own diesel. Can't suck no more than the NavaStar International Powerstroke. If they do....people will continue to covert over to Cummins. Which is always a good choice.
When somebody says "Ah well it should have a Ford in it instead since it is a Ford". It don't have a Ford in it to begin with! Its an International. A Cummins in these trucks is a very good swap over the International.
Wow your fuckin dumb. Ford ended their contract with International, hence the reason there is going to be no more international/powerstrokes in Fords. Ford is making their own diesel now called the Scorpion and they are goin to keep the powerstroke badge.
your obvisouly not much a ford guy if you think international made powerstroke when ford made them and owns the international in relations to ford becasue ford help make the international doesel engine which is ot the powerstroke and ford bought all right to cummin earlier this year from mercades dodge never owned or made cummins diesel
good job your jucky i dont know where you live i would steal that in a second GREAT WORK VERY CLEAN ill trade you for a moped and a f-250 and a monte carlo...deal??
its a very nice truck but if i lived close to the guy and i saw someone stealing it i would have to shoot them cuz that is too much hard work to be put in something that is just gonna get chopped up in a chop shop. go steal a nice stock truck not something that someone put there heart and soul into

Some people that get on here to look at stuff like this know what they are talking about and ford, first off does not have a 6.7 liter diesel engine in their chassis, second they did not build the engine that is in their chassis right now navistar/international is still. But what do I know I only work for an international dealership???
MrCbutter45 1 year ago
ide guess not enough.. go look it up ford makes their own engines now for the F250 and F350 pickups 6.7 liter code named the "scorpion" made by them and a joint venture with bosch the company that makes parts for ford
gizmo98550 1 year ago
Well first thing I'd probably check again I said that right now they are putting the 6.4 in the chassis right NOW. Yes right NOW. I also said they are building their own. Then I would probably use spell check so you don't look like you can't read or spell. Just saying.

tpvalley 2 years ago
what?its a ford with a cummins and no one makes heavy duty single cabs with shortbeds.
underarmour80 2 years ago
sorry I know about ford not fitting cummins, I forgot cause the grill looks similar, I didnt know about the heavy duty and single cab stuff, Im from UK we dont have these here, well rarely anyway.
tpvalley 2 years ago
oh i wasn't bein a dick i was just sayin.
underarmour80 2 years ago
If I was to have an american truck I would like a ford 6.9 or 7.3idi, they seem good on fuel to, saw an f150 or250 with an ambulance box on the bed, he got over 20mpg, my mates 2.5 diesel only gets 23mpg!
tpvalley 2 years ago
that's more about tuning the computer and gear ratio bigger trucks have more power to turn higher gears at lower RPM thus using less fuel
kwaky2005 2 years ago
u do NOT want a 6.9...they are albolute junk. i work at a ford dealership on the new ford diesels, and i talk with all the old techs.,,they are shit. the early 7.3s weren't that great. the actual powerstroke 7.3 on the other hand its great
Xlt92bassist 2 years ago
why?
unreliable or just slow?
tpvalley 2 years ago
both
Xlt92bassist 2 years ago
really?
whats the weak point of em?
Ive read that when torbod they r prone to breaking with high compression non turbo pistons but na is fine?
tpvalley 2 years ago
The only real problem with them are some cavitation issues that can be fixed easily if taken care of in time, the fact that some of them are non-turbo, and that they don't have much power. At least the 6.9's. They still make a pretty damn good truck.
evanmurray 2 years ago
Those engines are made my International not Ford. Ford is however coming out with their very own diesel. Can't suck no more than the NavaStar International Powerstroke. If they do....people will continue to covert over to Cummins. Which is always a good choice.
79fordblake 2 years ago
When somebody says "Ah well it should have a Ford in it instead since it is a Ford". It don't have a Ford in it to begin with! Its an International. A Cummins in these trucks is a very good swap over the International.
79fordblake 2 years ago
your a dumbass international didnt make powerstroke
hpiownzilla01 2 years ago
Wow your fuckin dumb. Ford ended their contract with International, hence the reason there is going to be no more international/powerstrokes in Fords. Ford is making their own diesel now called the Scorpion and they are goin to keep the powerstroke badge.
79fordblake 2 years ago
your obvisouly not much a ford guy if you think international made powerstroke when ford made them and owns the international in relations to ford becasue ford help make the international doesel engine which is ot the powerstroke and ford bought all right to cummin earlier this year from mercades dodge never owned or made cummins diesel
hpiownzilla01 2 years ago
Ford sold the rights to cummins within a month of buying them
