  • AT&T will need to add MANY more cell sites in all major metro areas to handle the capacity that their phones eat up. Landlords should keep an eye out for the LTE Upgrade lease amendments. For many landlords it will be the only chance you get to renegotiate the terms of your cell tower leases. Great video.

  • Big brother is watching?

  • i hope they paid a lot for this ad?!

  • Cute chick

  • Not everything ROCKETBOOM is worth watching,... (sigh)

  • nevertheless, watching Ellie is always worth it ;)

  • Why is somebody practising their drumming technique just behind the camera? Couldn't you ask that guy to get the heck outta there?

  • dis is gay how i use my tracfone on dis thang

  • With no one to protect them

Put this into the youtube search engine.

If you can get to minute 6 WITHOUT crying...

I'll PERSONALLY send you 25.00 with paypal.

    Seriously.

    Try it.

  • That's some quality head-nodding going on there

  • What was that? Who gives a shit what's on the inside of AT&T mobile "cow" towers?

  • AT&T is awful

  • Did you actually watch the video?

  • @motorbabyusa yes, it was very boo-hoo we can't cover our users. verizon must be doing something right.

  • "These are converters that uh come in via fibre optics and then it converts it into ethernet? Right?"

She just needs to begin with "I personally believe..." to complete that sentence...

  • You should say that AT&T doesn't really exist anymore. What was left of AT&T was bought up by SBC Communications Inc. in 2005 (headquartered in Dallas, Texas) which wisely changed its name to at&t which is why the new logo is in lower case letters.

  • How does rocketboom make money? They barely have views...

  • they put out a lot of videos

  • @RoeNand

How does anybody on the Internet make money? They don't.

23,000 views is not nothing, though.

    Nobody is watching television either.

I think everyone on earth is either: 1. rotting their brain playing video games or 2. actually going outside and living.

  • i play video games outside

    got'em

  • @RoeNand They might qualify for government grants, run advertising (on some pages), accept commissioned stories/story ideas (like this one for at&t might have got them all a year's worth of free calls as "thanks") plus their overheads are probably pretty low. Maybe everyone is a volunteer? Maybe they don't plan to make much profit but sell up in a year or two?

  • @mattblack77nz Thank you for the explenation

  • @mattblack77nz Thank you for the explanation

  • Cool.

  • this video sucks cause it has AT&T in it.

  • You win. lol

  • i love how there's a verizon ad right before the at&t video. it's just too funny...

  • It's awesome technology, but all I could think was, "We at AT&T recognize that our network is barely holding together a the best of times. So when tens of thousands of people converge in one area, we'd be totally screwed unless we rolled these COWs out!"

  • Forced advertising sucks. Real youtubers hate the "monetizing" of youtube and the internet. Commercial mainstream media does that and it is crap.

  • she doesn't have a clue..

  • And you do?

  • 3 videos in a row without molly? :c

  • @ByBleeker i herd she was admitted

  • @southwest702 what do you mean?

  • @ByBleeker mental institution

  • @southwest702 where did you hear that?

  • @ByBleeker well it is Molly i just figured

  • @southwest702

It's really not as hard as people think it is to get admitted. I'm sure a majority of YouTubers could pass the entrance exam without even studying.

  • @ReliableInsider entrance exam?? they used to just throw me in there against my will

  • @ByBleeker ellie's cool too but molly is the best

  • I want him to call her a cow.

  • did little cook died?

  • I love the questions Ellie asks while she's in the COW so we get answers about 2G, 3G and Wifi connected with the backhaul because it's so easy to forget what you want to ask in order to get the best answers for your video and when your done with the interview you end up thinking, 'I should have asked this or that'. But I think Ellie asked the best questions and asked them appropriately to get the most detailed answers for this tech vid.

  • Cool Stuff

  • I love ellie

  • What about radiation being a hazard? Isn't that a problem?

  • pfft, since when was being spiderman a problem?

  • You seriously think that the radiation given off by these towers is dangerous? They're smaller and give off less radiation than larger towers to begin with but also humans are dosed with radiation everyday from the sun, and that dose is increased the higher you live (everytime you fly it increases ten-fold) unless you absorb an stupidly large dose (which would be impossible from these towers) your life wont be affected in anyway by your daily dose of radiation from mobile etc.

  • @GBuster026 Plus, radiowaves tend to be too weak to get past the skin, or I would assume even clothing.

  • Austin Texas, the only refuge for real humans in the whole state.

  • If Ellie doesn't lay off those Twinkies she's going to be a cow herself. :-P

  • hmm, nice observation

  • Not all of your subscribers are from the USA, keep that in mind when you make videos.

  • Very true.

  • I wonder what readings of electromagnetic radiation they'd get in those trucks.

  • @quietthomas the radiation is not on the trcks but on the antenas on the towers.

  • @skollll radiation is everywhere! But yes, I get what you're saying. Although I still wonder whether they've done any cancer cluster surveys of workers involved with those trucks.

  • good report.

  • I have respect for AT&T, always good.

  • SXSW rocks! We wanna get networked!

  • I tried to drive one of those trucks through McDonald's drive-thru.

There's a video of it on failblog.

  • They do this to make sure no one complains like at CES. Go Verizon.

  • interesting!

but I didn't get how the network is communicating with the truck... surely it cannot be wired...

  • you're kidding right? you don't need wires to communicate. the video is about cell phones. think

  • @Desarollo you think what my question is. I was wondering about the truck's backhull communication and now I noticed that it uses optic fiber. so yeah... it is wired

  • Way to see a story opportunity... very, very interesting!

  • Awesome mobile cancer center guys

  • The paties were good, Ellie is a little bit tired

  • I call bullshit. This is not an exclusive interview it's just an advert.

  • Pretty nice. I approve AT&T!

  • Vodafone in the UK already has those signal boosters available, lulz.

  • fuck you faggots for selling to sony.

i hope someone fucking snipes your bitch ass when you walk out the front door.

  • Could they park on of them between my bedroom and the living room, because me signal always dies when I try to walk through the house.

  • im sorry guys.. but im not really good with this internet thing.

can someone please explain to me what does it mean with increasing capacity and not increasing speed. doesnt capacity means like, more people can use the service, and with not so much traffic due to many people, the speed of internet can be increase..

does capacity really not correlate with speed?

  • @bie5436 you're completly right by saying that capacity means more people can use the service, but all must use the same speed; the only time speed is a problem is when lots of people (such as 14k of geeks) want to use the service at the same time. Then you start to choke the system.

  • capacity means more people can use their service at the same time, it doesn't increase speed of 3g/calls, just improves signal quality.

  • why do people knod their heads up and down like that like they comprehend everything and everything is ok? i catch myself doing it sometimes. i feel it may be a tick of denial.

  • Great story, Ellie! I've been an AT&T customer for many years!

  • Comment removed

  • Ellie looks bored.

  • Neat

  • It always looks like she wants to give the person a hug at the end of her interviews lol

  • @jesiahd AT&T is the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • COW :)

  • Ahhh, I see, so this is how AT&T wants to fix their terrible coverage

  • @hijoeturre yes, it is you fucking retard

  • @hijoeturre ha ha ha ha lol put up a temporary solution

  • @donpatch4312 HAI! My name is Sarcasm, I don't think we've met before.

  • @hijoeturre hahaha. it's a start!

  • Now if you could park a few thousand of these trucks throughout the country your users might not be bitching so much about your lousy coverage, AT&T

  • What a good idea. Kudos to whomever came up with it.

  • I think It's a great idea for them to bring in these "mobile" cell towers for big events.

  • What were they thinking calling it a cow. That is ridiculous.

  • Do remember people. If Ellie is out of RocketBoom in about a year or less, it is because of her brain cancer sponsored by AT&T !!

  • You got a nice sponsorship and we got some nice info here. So cheers!

  • AT&T sponsors Rocketboom and yet Rocketboom promotes 4chan, a notorious website to which AT&T tried blocking access. It's a damn trainwreck in slow motion!

  • @ImmortalDestructor

They blocked access because 4chan was being DDOSed and it was damaging AT&T. It had nothing to do with the content.

  • I can actually see there tumors growing.

  • Hey Ellie the only reason that troll let you in the "cow" was because he thought it would make him bigger than you and you thought it was for "fun time" unless your into troll sex....

I wondered why my balls tingle so much and now it is because of "DAS" thanx

  • wow awesome! new info for me!

  • if all sponsored videos would be that good i wouldn't mind them...

  • anyone else getting a sprint ad... right next to this video??

  • @robseraiva Most definitely.

  • Nope IE8 :)

  • @robseraiva Most definitely.

  • @robseraiva lmao but nah i got geico :(

  • maybe it's Ellie's hotness. maybe it's the pint of whiskey i had for breakfast. but i want to have dirty sex with AT&T now.

  • @yetidetective Hahahahaha. I love you.

  • that is cool

  • okay, i switched off, what was this about?

  • I saw no ad. I've actually not seen an ad on You-tube for a few months. Not sure what I've done to stop them.

I DO have to press play for every ROCKETBOOM episode I watch. It's automatic for all the other videos I watch. Just here I am required to press play.

As for the story. This is cost management and capacity flux being put under control. It's very cheap to rent a spot in a parking lot for a truck Vs spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to lease a cell site and build on it.

  • And when it goes under a bridge, BAM!

  • Thanks Ellie, that was really informative and uh ummm ah.. oh screw it - ZOMG Ellie you are so beautiful!!!11one

  • @katsujinken10 haha, thank you!

  • Sellout, sponsored by at&t

  • @demetry13 Nope! Just reporting on a story :)

  • @demetry13

True. But at least it was educational.

  • Theres a this 1 room in the basement of 1 of the buildings at my uni which always gets no signal =(

  • Impressive, it kinda reminds me of those phase prisms from StarCraft II

  • moo

  • Great idea, but somebody will of course call it conspiracy sooner or later :D

  • Carmelo's catering gets the great FREE plug!

  • mobile cell tower? cool! i want one too^^

    thanks Rocketboom :)

  • I smell bullshit

  • Comment removed

  • lol

  • I'd hijack one of them cows and wire them to my wifi antenna on my laptop and do me some serious wireless internet hacking lol

  • hack em!

  • out of THIS COW ... O_O

  • Increase the mobile signal strength at home!.. HAVE CANCER!..

and if you are against this type of devices.. fear not.. because your neighbor will have it for you..

  • Ellie Ellie Ellie

    You stood me still....

  • well i work in telecoms - so this is not all that interesting to watch..

  • I loved the ad in the beginning. Good ol' Siemens helping Hutchinson, Kansas.

  • That's just what the bottlenecks needed.

    (Networks following users? Cool.)

  • 16th!

  • Interesting vid.

    Wish it was higher quality?

  • this was really informative, i never knew of a mobile cell tower.. cow...

  • lol i cant believe ATT is allowing this to go public verizon is just going to say "well we dont need towers on wagons to have a large network" why are they just feeding them like this hahah?

  • To be fair, the reason why the rolled in these trucks is because they knew there would be 14k geeks with data phones all trying to twitter inside a four block radius, something that only happens once a year.

  • I like how he says 5000% to make it seem like more, when it is just 51 times larger. Still big, but not as impressive sounding.

  • Pretty cool idea. I can see how it could become invalueable in emergencies.

  • Lol - AT&T is so bad they need temp sites?

  • Why didn't they paint that truck black&white? Would fit the name a lot better!

Anyhow, nice little piece of information presented to us once again by Rocketboom!
