It seems highly likely that the roadside camera was a distraction to the Benz driver.Even at just eighty mph take your eye of the road and look sideways for just three seconds and you are 240ft into oblivion.You cannot afford to take your eye of the road for even a fraction of a second and you must always make allowance and distance for the worst scenario.That is probably why I have recorded 500,000+ miles incident free.Always remember that fast drivers have slow brains.

Steering rack failure or something massive gone wrong with the running gear and the read wheels won't turn. I has a friend, years ago, have their gearbox fail. What if something had gone really wrong with the transmissions and the drive wheels locked. Say, massive gearbox failure. It would have not been possible or even safe to get the car off the road. If a person can't handle an emergency like that then perhaps they shouldn't be using a motorway. Experienced mechanic? lol Usually when a cambelt snaps at high revs it will destroy all the valves and hole the pistons and appear to cut out - it won't "sieze" or lock the engine; the momentum of the car in gear would keep the crank turning making sure the internals look even more of a mess, but it won't stop the car dead.
I've had this happen to me in a Nissan 200sx and been in a car (Mondeo ST24) when exactly this happened. In the case of the Mondeo a tyre burst after the wheels locked so yes, it can happen and yes I have been a mechanic for just over 20 years. How long have you been a mechanic or do you just read threads and think you know what you are talking about?
Usual situation an British M Ways. I Drive a van 100K a year, and have benn run up the back of 5 times. Every time it was a Woman. They can't say they didn't see me!!!!.

I have had an engine seize due to a dropped valve and it is very easy to push out the clutch/select neutral and coast.
Balljoint failure? If he'd managed to keep it under control and not hit the barrier, again, he could have found the hard shoulder.

The fact is she was obviously NOT concentrating on what she was doing and should count herself lucky she is not on a manslaughter charge thanks to the quick thinking of the car owner who got to a place of safety although with morons like her on the road is anywhere safe? At the very least she should be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention and heavily fined and licence endorsed.

Experienced mechanic? lol Usually when a cambelt snaps at high revs it will destroy all the valves and hole the pistons and appear to cut out - it won't "sieze" or lock the engine; the momentum of the car in gear would keep the crank turning making sure the internals look even more of a mess, but it won't stop the car dead.

I've had this happen to me in a Nissan 200sx and been in a car (Mondeo ST24) when exactly this happened. In the case of the Mondeo a tyre burst after the wheels locked so yes, it can happen and yes I have been a mechanic for just over 20 years. How long have you been a mechanic or do you just read threads and think you know what you are talking about?

Usual situation an British M Ways. I Drive a van 100K a year, and have benn run up the back of 5 times. Every time it was a Woman. They can't say they didn't see me!!!!.

jesus, lucky no-one was really injured....if that wasnt a well built sturdy car (corsa, clio, 206 etc..) she probably wouldnt be here 2day
