I'm going to try this soon because a got the new 3GS iPhone and I want to shoot videos with a tripod. so thank you for the idea.

also, the tripod idea kind of nullifies the whole purpose of having a camera in your phone. it's for convenience. those who want to whip out their phone to take a picture or even a video from their phone on a whim are most likely not going to care about using a tripod. i dunno, i may be wrong, but that is just my observation. if you can think of way to make that tripod ultra portable, then you might have a million dollar invention!

without a tripod you're kinda effed.

not everyone uses their phone the same way.

here are a few recommendations to make your idea more marketable...

allow the mount to swivel so you can take pictures in a vertical and horizontal position. shouldn't be too difficult.

also, try adding a hot-shoe type feature so you can remove the mounting device when not in use.

the only thing i have against this is that for those who would want to mount their iphone to a tripod probably already have a nicer camera they would want to take pictures with.
