@tspiess100 I can back up your claim as well. I had the opportunity to meet him back when I had my yellow belt. I really wish my sensei had not left, I really enjoyed the class. Great workout, and the moves DO work and I've had to use them here and there I various situations :)
scarred10 - Just so you are aware, i have seen Hanshi Alexander spar and I trained with hm. He is the real thing. He is a very motivated Karate-ka and loves to share his knowledge with others who are interested. He also likes to keep the art / hobby/ alive and fun. I believe if you look deeper, you will see he has a lot to offer on the technical side and the academic side form his books and DVD's.
fast and agile for a 60 yrsold overweight man but theres no way he did 50 of those 3 min rounds. The partners were useless fatchaps and novices(especially the black belt) and the sparring a game of tag but its obiously kept him nimble when others his age are falling apart.
Hanshi Alexander, i am Sensei Conway Sensei of Shuri Ryu..I feel maybe you are familiar with O'Sensei Robert Trias or Shuri Ryu..Your Dojo "Feels" like Our Dojo The "Kami" is evident. I would love to attend your classes or Seminars as a Student. I see you are The best in Your art and I humbly would like to learn from you. OSU!
Im like Bruce Lee i dont believe in all of that screaming and hollering but i do have and like George Alexanders jujitsu dvds there real good but the camera person did a lousy job on them.
On the one hand, I don't see any "fighting"... I see some out of shape guys point sparring. That's nowhere near the same thing. On the other, Mr. Alexander is 60 years old.
For those who doubt this man's ability's and knowledge, I invite those to attend his annual summer camp. I have met many who boast what they have done. Hanshi George Alexander continues to prove his abilities each and every year. Visit his website for more information.
I just completed a three-hour seminar tonight with Hanshi Alexander. His ju jitsu is amazing. Afterward, I had the honor of him being one of the three judges for my promotion test to ikyu (brown-3). It was truly an honor to go up in front of such a highly decorated martial artist. I'm over 50 and I had little gas left in my tank at the end, but I passed. I'll never forget this promotion test. :) It's unlikely I will ever meet in person a greater karateka than Hanshi Alexander.
I am 51 years old returning to karate aftere nearly 10 years without any real hard training (just a few seminars) and training with some of my ex students and am looking forward to studying the okinawan white crane DVDs in the near future
Well done on the 50 man kumite not an easy task to set yourself at any age
WOW, Hanshi, This looks like something straight out of an old Kung Fu movie where the 200 year old master beats the young upstart, but this was way better. The fake pain at 0.58 was too good.BTW, who was making the Bruce Lee noices at 1:24?? :D And I really liked the way you were pushing the white belts. Some people might feel its too brutal, but this way they improve their game faster. This was an inspiration. OSS
Ok, I will give it to you. It is just that I come from a place where High ranking sensei are very humble. I do not know you personally but I do respect your knowledge and ability. Please accept my apology if I ruffled any feathers.
The fact that he could still do this at 60 is impressive but we could do without the self serving comments. Why does he find it important to let everyone know that he is commemorating his promotion to 10th Dan. Who is promoting him? I admire George for his ability and life long commitment but hey there big guy, lets be honest, 10th dan.
Zen: After 48 years in the martial arts my promotion was signed by Sensei Seifuku Nitta, 10th dan and Sensei Seiki Toma, 10th dan. As there is no test for this rank, I felt the need to do something to commemorate the event. This only happens once in your lifetime. In fact, it's something to be proud of. It's like graduating from college. Would you not tell anybody about it? Would the college not have a commencement exercise? Thanks for the kudos but Just felt the need to correct this part.
Osu ! , many peoples in 60 only work in office , you ki ,power of life , is in this sparring training , is honor to my be you young brother in Budo.
You be one good example to many with 50 like my ,thank you very much Sensei George Alexander , my sempai in Shorin Ryu and in Budo . From my heart : Gerardo Cantore 9th Dan Shorin Ryu Karate, 9th Dan Isshin Ryu Karate, 9th Dan Aikijujitsu , 10th Dan Shinshinkan Karate , Ex Buddisth Monk , World Head of Shinshinkan World Karate Organization
