  • Man what's so great about science anyways? It was never my best subject in school. I was into English and Math and Biology.

  • This is the best kind of music video. They don't take themselves too seriously, yet it really is pretty inspired--Home for Deranged Scientists lol

  • Deranged Scientists....Right On...

  • I am 13 and watching this, I am officaly cooler then anybody in my grade.

  • gotta love the 80's

  • They should play this on The Big Bang Theory. Just a thought.

  • @Rockgod1970

It was the original unaired pilot's theme song.

  • This music video can be seen playing on the TV while it's being fast-fowarded very briefly in the 1982 film "Koyaanisqatsi".....

  • I see a resemblance to Alton Brown.

  • OK ,.dumping Steven Hawkings in the drink wasn't uptown , but I get it.

  • lol, "I can smell her chemicals."

  • I remember this being a completely weird video back when MTV actually showed videos.

  • Thumbs up if Flo brought you here.

  • like this comment if progressive brought you here lol

  • When I saw this on ponies the anthology I thought it was from weird science the movie.....

  • this song was going to be the original theme song for the tv sitcom the big bang theory :)

  • i bet if you lifted that girls dress it would smell like egg rolls and sweet and sour sauce.

  • "You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us... it's science"

  • Science!

  • 3:35 Mr. Dolby rejects Science and things scientific, and goes Steampunk!

  • a great song, recorded very well, great imagination even though he only hit gold one time. and Dolby was only a stage name as I recall due to Dolby being the "hot-thing" for noise reduction for tape recordings back in the day, however, it chopped off your high frequencies. I liked DBX better, but it never really caught on, too expensive!

  • Science isnt about why! Its about why not!

  • 49 people failed science...

  • thumbs up if you searched the lyrics from the progressive commercial and found this cool video!

  • Is weird to think that Thomas looks hot in a geeky sorta way? Cause to me he does.

  • @lizzieanthony100 Yeah. I feel you. You're not alone.

  • Mr. Dollby is crazy about Dollby sound.

  • She blinded me with science.

  • where's Poindexter?

  • The old man in the video is probably dead.

  • @ehetheri If you mean Magnus Pyke (a real scientist), then yes, he died in 1992 at age 83. He was an awesome and eccentric character.

  • he looks alot like alton brown..anyone else see that?

  • @thecolaratlady You're right! AB patterned GOOD EATS on this video. Before his cooking show and Food tv stuff, in the 80's he was a videographer and worked on several music videos including some by REM. He combined his love of science and food and video production and the rest is history!

  • I blinded her with semen!

  • @dynelol Do all British guys just masturbate or something?

  • @krista7422 A winner are you!

Former president George Walker Bush in the form of kinetic energy zapped Jonathan Spellman out of a street light pole giving telepathic abilities.Celebrity women spirits flew through tv. by mental&hands teaching communication. Which he used to catch Satan in Bill Gates.Bill Designed the$20.00 bill that show exactly how pentagon &twins towers was hit.

  • That Home for Deranged Scientists looks a bit like the White House

  • @roosevelthighschool so do many mental institutions... the one in the town I'm in looks a bit more like the Capitol though...

  • @roosevelthighschool

The only difference, is: Scientists are intelligent, smart. Politicians are quite the opposite.

  • OMG! This song really sets off that 80's feeling! I remember listening to my radio anticipating for this song to come on. I fell in love with this song right away. I saw the video on Mtv and it was awesome but there is just something about this song. Of course being a young teen back then, I didnt get what he was saying here, hahaha but I do now! :-D There is sooo many awesome memories of that time. I had the funnest and craziest times back then. The best times for sure! Oh how I miss it! :-(

  • @thecarebearhideaway Today MTV is just "16 & Pregnant" and "I used to be fat" and all that shit, it was much better in the 80's......... oh and I forgot.....................SCIENCE!

  • @KegRiese Boy, dont I know it! Mtv needs to know when to call it quits. That channel lost its glory a LONG time ago. I believe the fat lady has sung here! :-D

  • When music meant you could sing for the hell of it.

  • Neat and memorable stuff! I was a senior in high school when this one came out. Just getting ready to graduate with the class of '83!

  • I REALLY enjoy Flo the Progressive Girl groove to this song:

    watch?v=Pke8qanxQ_E

  • what do you mean he cant make good music? his legal name is DOLBY.

  • @Hot80s yup,too bad were stuck with the saccharine ,almost Musak-like crapola of U2 and Foo-Fighters,Nickelback and LadyGaga these days. Total crap with the monotone vocals(no range) choruses homonymous with the choruses (bad songwriting) and unremarkable instrumental breaks(zero musicianship)... kinda sad when you gotta go back to the 60`s-70`s-80`s for good pop/rock..

  • @PAULOcbi Couldn't agree more.

  • The nobel prize award theme! :)

  • lol because of this song whenever I'm talking about science related things I have to yell "SCIENCE" in that voice.

  • Fuckin SCIENCE!

  • Science meredith, SCIENCE.

  • SCIENCE!

  • Dolby calls the character he created in this a "Slightly forlorn mad scientist." He says some of his personality is in the character.

This was Dolby's only hit in the US, although he had a few hit singles in England.

The speaking voice parts were done by Magnus Pyke. His trademark was yelling "Science!" throughout the show he hosted. Dolby, who was raised in London, liked the idea of bringing Pyke to an American audience, and thought he was a perfect character for the video.

  • You can't convince me that Thomas Dolby didn't change his name to Alton Brown and now appears on the Food Network. You can't...ROFLMAO!!!

  • @Tiptoesan so im not the only one that thinks so

  • @Tiptoesan Close. Alton Brown is Thomas Dolby from another dimension. A dimension where he became a food wizard instead of a music wizard.

  • Why is there an old guy that keeps yelling science?

  • @Tim92G Let's by honest... Why not?

  • this video would be a million times better if all the humans were actually muppets or something

  • SCIENCE!

  • Science!!

  • @stovetop29 then why did you come here?

  • @stovetop29 Oh please friend whats a good song then?

  • @stovetop29 you apparently can't appreciate good music, or music that was once incredibly popular and actually took work to make and was actually a show of talent.

  • Why isn't there a PMV of this yet?

  • guess what i yell every time i have science class

  • RIP Magnus Pike . damn robbers

  • Steampunk before it was cool?

  • @Ylossk Yes. Steampunk before it was cool. Dolby is an uber-technogeek who probably created at least one of the ringtones on your cell phone (or some of the software in it!).

  • August 1984, Virginia Beach Va. Live at Peabody's, Thomas Dolby! What was great for all of us was that Peabody's was a small club without a stage. So my wife and I were about 2 ft away and face to face with Thomas Dolby
