Hi Scott, I hear a lot of people say that it is imperative to keep your back straight when doing this exercise to isolate the medial delts, however; I like this form much better because it allows me to use a higher weight, but is this because my traps are doing most of the work or are they simply facilitating the movement? Thanks!
what are your opinions on impingement in this exercise by taking the hands past shoulder level. Seminars I attended 8-9 years ago (by Everett Aaberg) suggest that such elevation poses a higher risk.
Re your other videos, he also advises maintaining scapular retraction during the bench press to minimise impediment of movement as also to not touch the chest with the bar as the cartilage coverage is less at this extreme of the movement. This was a while back so interested in whats changed over time
Well nothing has changed. Training for development and high performance is just a different mandate is all. Accentuating the most effective planes and ranges of motion, necessitates and requires thinking differently.
There is no way to minimize risk on lots of movements and still have them be productive. Frankly, a lot of this kindof thinking is just over-stated
Give the moves a try and see what you think over time
I/we find little catch phrases handy to mentally employ during execution so as to keep on technique when the going gets tough, mid to near end of a set
this guy is just encouraging you to cheat. if watched 5/6 videos no and there's so much body english in the movements

Good video.
This is certainly Seated Cheating Side Lateral with DB or Seated Side Lateral with Back Extension.
