The great thing about this movie was that the scares started out so subtle they were almost unnoticeable, but as the story progressed, the scares became more pronounced. That's how horror movies SHOULD be made. Also, the majority of the screaming should be coming from (mostly) girls in the audience, not annoying characters who thing everything is a monster. The minimal dialogue in the film basically put all the focus on the eerie atmosphere, which made the "jump-out" parts more jarring.
