  • I paid 700 for mine at age 2

  • My dad got me my gsd from a friend who was breeding them. He was selling them for 500 but since my dad has known him for 5 years the man decided to give her for 75.00 with papers(: thanks dad!!

  • GSD BABY

  • omg i literaly cried i luv these dogs i want one so bad!!!!!!!!

  • Best dog ever

  • GO BERLIN!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • What a great video!!!!!

  • Great video !! 8 )

  • AMEN

  • this is 10% luck 20% skill 15% concentrated power of will 5% pleasure 15% pain, and also 100% to remember the name!!! GSD is the best!!!

  • I respect both the working line gsds. I love the show line. And I absolutely agree that the backs of show lines are unessacairly sloped but I have seen great show line dogs with out it.

  • i agree show breed line has spoiled the "ORIGINAL WORKING LINE" and now days its very difficult to find a working line pure breed of gsd!!!

& these show line have alot of ailments like hip and elbow dysplasia.

why r breeders modifying the best possible breed developed.

& i would say working line looks alot better with thick coat steady n firm legs

    save working line....

  • Meant to say house

  • I want one bad! Maybe when I get a bigger hoist!

  • I love GSDs, but what bothers me is that you say not to support show breeders. You do realize that quite a few of the dogs in the video are German show lines, right?

  • @MrOzzyPom

Yes, I do realize that. I used clips of working line dogs wherever possible, but I wanted to demonstrate all of the jobs the breed was capable of doing, and for some I could unfortunately only find clips of show line dogs.

  • @maximum411 I bought my GSD from a breeder without birth certificates, I don't care about showing off my dog to pompous cretins on dog shows. However, he is a standard yellow and black "show dog" and most of such dogs are perfectly capable of doing what they were originally designed to do. No need to hate on the show dog, hate the "hardcore" breeders who are inbreeding the best of the breed to make "beautiful" specimens...German shepherds are amazing as a whole, not just DDR ones.

  • @ScoopzyDaizy

In reality, though, most show dogs are not capable of doing what they were originally bred to do. Talk to someone who does herding or schutzhund, and they will tell you that many show line dogs are too nervous or don't have enough working drive. I have no hate for your dog or any individual dog, but I believe that for a working breed like the German shepherd, there should be no such thing as a "show dog" bred specifically for appearance. Working traits should be what is bred for.

  • @ScoopzyDaizy

The founder of the breed, Max von Stephanitz, warned against breeding dogs just for their appearance, because he knew that this would lead to the loss of the qualities that made the German shepherd such a great dog in the first place. Show dogs can make nice pets, but to me, a German shepherd that cannot do the work it was bred to do might as well be any other breed. There are plenty of companion dog breeds; let's keep the German shepherd a working breed (that can also be a pet).

  • @ScoopzyDaizy

And I don't just like DDR dogs- my favorite dogs are actually the von Kirschental HGH (herding) dogs, since these are closest to what the German shepherd originally did. Herding dogs naturally have traits that make them great for all types of work, since they have a high level of genetic obedience, but can also think independently (which is why HGH lines have been used as guide dogs, security dogs, bomb sniffers, etc.).

  • @ScoopzyDaizy

The von Kirschental dogs actually have a show-like conformation, but they are definitely not show dogs. They are bred first and foremost for working ability, with conformation seen more as a bonus or afterthought.

  • @maximum411 I read all of your comments and I agree with the most of them. Truth is, German shepherds really should be specifically working dogs, however this is not the case unfortunatelly, as you said. I used to own a DDR shepherd as a kid but didn't know much about dogs then so poor Neron was put to no real use...He was a fantastic dog nevertheless. What I want from Ringo, my new dog, is obedience and loyalty. He's a pet, not a fashion accessory although his looks are showlike.

  • @ScoopzyDaizy

There's nothing wrong with keeping working line dogs as pets, and they make great companions. What we should be breeding for, however, is working ability. Even if it is just a pet, I would rather have a German shepherd that is capable of working than one that isn't.

  • I'm a GSD nutcase and people who say show dogs are useless... Stephanitz's first German shepherd dog was a show dog bought in 1899 by himself. His name was Hektor later changed to Horand Von grafrath. This show dog was the first registered GSD so stop bad mouthing show dogs.

  • @bballpenguin16

Horand von Grafrath was not a show line dog- he was found at a show, but he had not been bred for appearance and conformation to the exclusion of most other qualities as dogs are today. He was a working dog that just happened to be at a show, and not at all a show line dog.

  • This IS my favorite video! Truly shows how amazing this dog is! They are the best dogs and always will be my #1

  • Absolutely, BOSS VIDEO, for an extraordinary breed.

  • I have had German Shepherds my whole life and have one now. They are simply the best dog to have...hands down ! Loving, smart, obedient, protective, easy to train. I love this video and have watched it several times. I also put it on the german shepherd rescue facebook page. Thanks for making it.

  • @Jimintustin

Glad to hear you like it- GSDs are definitely the best.

  • Very nice video

  • Thank you, I will do that! Stay safe

  • Perfect, a great video of the breed, how may I borrow this one for a promotion video in sweden German Shephard club?

  • @xeonvonnimbus

Please, feel free to borrow my video for your club :)

  • These are German Shepherds...the rest are just dogs.

  • Is the agility dog near the end being run by Patty Bensene?

  • ;)

  • I love how people care about "Angulation"... pff... My GSD is East German/Czech and she's built like a brick shithouse. Wouldn't have it any other way.

  • The Best Breed period glad ive got one

  • German Shepherds are my favorite dogs. They are beautiful animals. Go Shepherds! Nice video

  • lol they added a this dog for sale in a frame around your video so it is not just about hits it is trying to get people to see they have dogs for sale. Actually its pathetic. Anyone that desperate to make a sale does not have buyers flocking to them because they are awesome breeders or their dogs are great.

  • @YvonnesUlf

Yeah I know- I've seen that before and while I'm not that enthusiastic about the breeder, they also don't seem like the worst place in the world. Do you know something about them I don't? I just hate it when people are overly strict about the content they place on the internet- I like to let people use my stuff. If this is a really bad place, though, I'll ask them to remove it.

Haha but asking them for a cut of the profits is a great idea- maybe I should sell spots in my video lol.

  • People please remember to support your East German/Czech working lines and kennels like Jinopo and Alpinek9 and trainers that deal with this bloodline, they care about the breed and want to keep the German Shepherd a working dog

  • »Rittermeister« (as shown in the pic at the end) is wrong. The rank was called »Rittmeister« (-> Hauptmann -> Captain)

I think Stephanitz would not be amused about the German Shepperd Frogs of today.

  • GREAT VIDEO. Show dogs make me sick. True working dogs don't need steep angulation its unnatural. Ive had numerous shepherds and no dog makes a connection to his owner like a shepherd. My shepherds are like part of my soul. Thanks again for showing shepherds in such a wonderful light.

  • Love this

  • awesome, great job on the video of the best dog there is

  • Great video. Breeders (especially here in the USA) need to watch this to be reiminded of what they were intended to do and not just to be another pretty face as well as the importantce of good health and genetics.

  • what's the name of the song...??? THANK YOU

  • @bananascocunat

The song is Remember the Name by Fort Minor (see the video description)

  • @maximum411 THANK YOU!!!!!

  • @bananascocunat fort minor ft mike shinoda

  • I think at 3:10 is a GSD doing lurecoursing, not flyball

  • @sntb05

well lure coursing is the one that comes just after that

  • @sntb05 @ 3:10 is lurecoursing,3:05 is flyball. 3:18 in agility. Maximum411 i love this video!

  • The dog running flyball is my boy Berlin an Granville vom Gildaf!

  • @granvillegsd

thanks for the footage he is a beautiful dog :)

  • Love it! I love the video of the GSD showing the police to his house, where the outbuilding was in flames.

    Tank and Kim

  • Loved the video! Nice job. Had Shepherds when I was a boy, adopted one in 2008 and I will always have one by my side.

  • Thank`s for this video, it really shows what a German Shepherd is

  • Excellent video! I have had German shepherds all my life and in my opinion, they are simply the best, well rounded breed out there! There "natural" guarding ability goes back to there original purpose of being a multi task working dog as they both guarded sheep from predators, and herded them as well. That said, they are extremely smart, and very loving! My female GSD chased away a pack of coyotes for coming too close to my land! Yet, will cuddle with my cats to sleep at night! True companion!

  • You spliced in some of my footage of me & one of my working GSD's (2:39-3:03). Thanks for the compliment...Summit is a great dog.

  • @blueskiierg

Summit looks like a great dog- what a German shepherd really should be. I saw your website too- awesome!

And thanks for letting me borrow your footage.

  • Great video... made me think of my best buddy waiting for me at the bridge..

  • This is an awesome video montage! It brought tears to my eyes! Wish you had found Zenders WUSV take down!! And I would have been honored to have one of mine in here!

  • This is an awesome video montage! I would have been honored to have one of miine in here!

  • also, to explain some of the clips:

The dog at 2:20 is a seizure alert dog who can tell when the little girl is having seizures.

The dog at 1:47 led police officers to his owner's burning house when emergency services couldn't locate it since it was in such a remote area.

  • That was a good video!

  • That was a good video!

  • honestly 2:23 made me tear up

  • @stealthyshadow90 does anyone know what that clip is form? id like to know more of the backstory on what is going on there. it does seem really sad. heart-wrenching really

  • @bboylayz

The girl has epilepsy and the dog can alert her family when she's about to have a seizure.

  • maximum411-thanks for the video and thank you for the comment about getting dogs only from reputable breeds or a rescue...I have had 8 shepherds 2 came from breeders and 6 came from shelters because they were too high drive for the families who originally got them-but all great and loyal dogs

  • @DebHurlburt

That's awesome- thanks for saving so many dogs! Shepherds are the best dogs on Earth.

  • Thanks for the comments :)

If you get a German shepherd, get a working line dog from a breeder or get one from a shelter/rescue. Don't support show or casual/backyard breeders- they are ruining the breed!

  • @maximum411 I agree 100 percent... I got Jesse my GSD from animal shelter (he was actually born there) is now currently 3 years old and the best damn dog and temp in line with guide dog/assistant dog. He is also a working line not the US line

  • @maximum411

I would be careful of all breeders. It has taken me 11 years to find the right kennel for me to buy a dog from.

I highly recommend joining the GSDCA-The German Shepherd Dog Club of America and getting educated about the breed; learn how to determine what German Shepherd Dog is best for what you need-campanionship, work, etc. of course, breed rescue is great too, but you better have deep pockets for vet care. Join the GSDCA-it is a great support system and wonderful people!

  • @maximum411

Also, after we invest a lot of training, time and showing into our new dog that is coming, we will breed and we will be breeding to top lines that correct some of the issues that have been proliferated through poor breeding that has caused a lot of horrible health issues, temperment issues with our GSD's. However, I will be a small kennel breeding for quality, not quanity-so you can't always go by this rule of thumb, but it is good to be careful-of any breeder-Period-I know.

  • @maximum411 your video is beautiful! Thank you,but I am a breeder of show, working & service dogs all in one. Please don't lump all show breeders as ruining the breed. A good breeder breeds to our standard & produces sound healthy dogs that comes close to it & perform as Max wanted.Without standards we lose type function & form.Don't go to anyone who doesn't health test their adults, socialize & temperament puppies & stand behind their dogs 100% & if they breed, they should rescue!

  • @medusasmom you are welcome to checkout my video of my dogs on my home page here entitled "The German Shepherds of T-Ho" I show a little different angle of what SHepherds are great at and its working too.I have some high drive dogs but prefer laid back for families.Ive had a service dog for 13 years ,high in trial, best in show, sch, leader and the #1 sire in N America. They all work too! Thanks again 4 your lovely mantage.

  • No dog works harder than us, no dog is stronger than us, we are German Shepherds..and we always will be

  • Great video...We are really lucky to share our lives with this wonderful breed. Thanks for sharing

  • awesome video to bad the "f bomb" is used so much as the German Shepherd Dog is indeed awesome
