  • Why is his voice different?

  • @klbrist it was recorded in 1973, he was 23 or 24, that's why he sounds so different.

  • Does anyone know where I can get this first picture? I want it as my laptop background.

  • @shoto604 Google image search Tom Waits Small Change and you will find that picture.

  • I was waiting for it to kick in and of course it never did. Solo, durrrrr. LOL

  • So Kickass. ty

  • dylan is his hero. when he was younger, he would pin dylan's lyrics to his wall

  • Is the speed on this maybe just a bit faster than Waits actually performed it? His voice usually sounds a little lower ....

  • where can i find this picture in fullsize ??

  • @123allezeitbereit gogle maybe

  • I love tom waits, but i also love tits.

  • Anyone knows more Tom Waits songs like this one, just Waits and the piano, nothing else.

And for the the arguers down there, you can kill me in the spot right now if Tom Waits wasn't a huge fan of Dylan.

  • Forgot to mention: except that time in KPFK, I have the bootleg.

  • @MojoDojoX do you have the boorleg of this performance (12/8/73)? If so send me a message :)

  • Everyone who plays music now stole the idea from the first person to bang two rocks together. so what, this song, like so many others are simply mindblowing (and not just by way of comparison to banging rocks together!)

  • Dylan stole the music of Blind Willie McTell from the traditional tune called St. James Infirmary, popularized by Louis Armstrong in 1928. And yes, Bobby is one of the biggest musical thieves to ever reach the spotlight, which is the fundament for his idisputable greatness.

As for Guthrie, Bob only took the style of his first three albums from him.

  • I fail to see how he's mocking Dylan. I also doubt that he WOULD mock him. I reckon he'd be more likely to pay tribute to him. Just my opinion. Anyway, you try writing a song that doesn't sound like any other song ever written and see how far you get! I think it was Neil Young who said that there are only seven songs and the rest are just variations of them.

  • I doubt he is mocking dylan, don't think tom would stoop to that...

  • I thought the voice sounded familiar - you're right, he's mocking Dylan.

  • He is mocking Bob Dylan and it came from Dylan's 'Blind Willie Mc.Tell', at least the piano part. Great tune but it is all about Dylan; a master musical thief himself.

  • .... AAAAAnd several Led Zeppelin (J.Page) Riffs and Solo style come from the "Rumble Man" (Licks), everything in music come from something. But I agree Dylan is a master musician.

  • just who cant you say is a musical theif? all musicians take from one another...dylan is no theif

  • @guitarhero240

dylan got his sound from woody guthrie.

  • I dont wanna grow up!!!!!!!! :)

  • when i grow up i want to be a piano !
