I think he doesn't understand that the Tanakh ("Old Testament") is related to the christian ["new"] testament; but they are not related. The essence of the bible is to say that human beings exist as figurative life, not literal life. We are just matter and energy, and that which we think of ourselves as us, is nothing more than an illusion produced by the involuntary psychological effect of belief. The bible deals with this problem by understanding that there is a life force in this universe and that we must look to it for any kind of real life, without which we are just particles of earth, particles that do not belong to us.
Nick, your argument is simply designed to keep biblical skeptics skeptical, and it is a very old argument. You view the bible in the same manner (at least at the making of this video) as the fundamentalists do, that there is an absolute verdict on it's objectivity, and the evidence for it can be found externally. But the bible is a book about what we are, and it is meant for human interpretation, not as history or science, so you should reevaluate how you come at this problem fundamentally.

I agree with the circular reference thing. However, historians look at the probability of any material being true not whether they are fact. We look at who wrote the document, their motives, time between occurance & document etc... As far as most scholars are concerned, the content of the bible (OT & NT) has a high probability of being true. If you deny this you may as well deny the likes of Homer's writings. And denying this will make you a very lonely person in the world of serious history.
Not exactly sure where the bible says the sun rotates around the earth. Many references to the sun moving in relation to the sky, which you would agree is true. Can you perhaps provide a verse reference. That would be much appreciated. As far as the earth being firmly stated, if it was not, we would be flying all over space. Not only has God kept his promise to have Jesus born out of king David's ancestry, he has established a legal & biological lineage from king David. Maybe everyone has faith in some way or another but an atheistic viewpoint has no faith in supernatural agencies to provide for us. You also assume that New Testament writers were receiving word for word what to write down, as is traditionally believed about the Old Testament. NT writers were moreso guys recollecting and paraphrasing scriptures, not being told what to write.
Also, I believe NT writers were reading also from the Greek(?) OT (the Septuagint) so they might not say word for word what the Hebrew OT says. But in any case, I'm glad you're searching for truth. Do you consider Josephus a legitimate historian?

I think he doesn't understand that the Tanakh ("Old Testament") is related to the christian ["new"] testament; but they are not related. The christian testament were claims that were simply untrue, and the God of the Tanakh strictly forbid human sacrifice - what the xtians claim was required. The essence of the bible is to say that human beings exist as figurative life, not literal life. We are just matter and energy, and that which we think of ourselves as us, is nothing more than an illusion produced by the involuntary psychological effect of belief. The bible deals with this problem by understanding that there is a life force in this universe and that we must look to it for any kind of real life, without which we are just particles of earth, particles that do not belong to us.

Nick, your argument is simply designed to keep biblical skeptics skeptical, and it is a very old argument. You view the bible in the same manner (at least at the making of this video) as the fundamentalists do, that there is an absolute verdict on it's objectivity, and the evidence for it can be found externally. But the bible is a book about what we are, and it is meant for human interpretation, not as history or science, so you should reevaluate how you come at this problem fundamentally.

I agree with the circular reference thing. However, historians look at the probability of any material being true not whether they are fact. We look at who wrote the document, their motives, time between occurance & document etc... As far as most scholars are concerned, the content of the bible (OT & NT) has a high probability of being true. If you deny this you may as well deny the likes of Homer's writings. And denying this will make you a very lonely person in the world of serious history.

Not exactly sure where the bible says the sun rotates around the earth. Many references to the sun moving in relation to the sky, which you would agree is true. Can you perhaps provide a verse reference. That would be much appreciated. As far as the earth being firmly stated, if it was not, we would be flying all over space. A fixed orbit around the sun does imply, in my mind anyway, a rather firmly stated situation don't you think?

Why the difference in Jesus' lineage. Consider this. One is the lineage of Josef, one of Marie. Not only has God kept his promise to have Jesus born out of king David's ancestry, he has established a legal & biological lineage from king David. Maybe everyone has faith in some way or another but an atheistic viewpoint has no faith in supernatural agencies to provide for us. In fact my "faith" as you call it could more easily be called reasonable expectation because it doesn't rely on anything supernatural. I take it you believe Christianity to be the one true religion? If so then how do you show that the Mormons or the Muslims are wrong and you as a Christian are correct? Where is the evidence?

Oops- I knew the verse was in there- first I found the ones referring to the Passover lamb- again, symbolic of Jesus. The actual verse the NT is quoting is from Psalm 34:20 "He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken." You also assume that New Testament writers were receiving word for word what to write down, as is traditionally believed about the Old Testament. NT writers were moreso guys recollecting and paraphrasing scriptures, not being told what to write.
Also, I believe NT writers were reading also from the Greek(?) OT (the Septuagint) so they might not say word for word what the Hebrew OT says. But in any case, I'm glad you're searching for truth. Do you consider Josephus a legitimate historian?

You are assuming that the Old Testament writers and New Testament writers are the same- or that the NT writers intended their writings to be gathered into a "Bible" when they were just writing letters to each other.
I believe the lineages of Jesus are Mary's family and Joseph's family.
Just taking a stab, Exodus 12:46 "neither shall ye break a bone thereof" in reference to the passover lamb- which represents Jesus. Numbers 9:11 "nor break any bone of it" again referring to the passover lamb.

Jewish history confirms the writings of the Old testiment. We can go see the remains of the temple king solomon built, we see the fallen walls of Jericho. We can see that the surrounding nations of Isreal have hostilities towards them, the Bible holds the explanations to why.

But I can give you a non religious non supernatural reason for ethics and morals. We are social beings with the ability to feel empathy for each other and with the requirement for security and safety so it is in our own interest to outlaw theft and rape to protect ourselves and to prevent others of our kind suffering. This is the basis for our laws and those laws evolve within our society over time. In fact they evolve so much that they have left the bilbe behind in what we see as moral.

Ok I watched your video and it actually contradicts the bible on at least 2 points. The boat is the wrong size according to the bible and it is in the wrong place according to the bible but that is just the least of the problems this poses. If the flood is to be taken seriously then tell me where did the water come from to rain for 40 days and 40 nights. Rain is actually evaporation that is drawn up into the clouds and when it cools it condenses then falls as droplets. Now explain the flood.

It is RECENT WORLD EVENTS that have been fulfilled and ARE BEING fulfilled today that prove to the BELIEVER that the Bible is true. Nick, the Bible is as God intended. It is a compilation of scriptures that were written in faith, by faith, and for the faith of others. Its all about choosing to believe what our heart (not our spoon-fed school system "knowledge" or whatever) tells us. It's about choosing what our God-given "conscience" implores us to consider. That is why for those who do not know of the Bible, God is merciful and searches their heart Jeremiah 17:10 and judges them accordingly. God loves you. You must believe.

nick, let me help you - you sure need help. In order to understand the Bible you must ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to it's meaning. Then and only then will it make any sense to you. HOW BOUT THIS IN the BIBLE it says that Babylon(IRAQ)will be split into three(Kurds,sunni,shiite). Also that Magog(Russia) with the help of Persia(Iran) will invade Israel.And after 2500 years of never having a treaty with eachother russia and iran recently accepted a treaty... And in current news Israel is pressuring the Bush administration to bomb Iran before Iran has Nuclear capabilities or they say that they will handle it themselves if US doesnt. Accept Jesus into your hearts Please people

sure all these other religions have books about there gods..and all these other religions have end times...But like that armegedon show on the tv yesterday said there is no book as detailed as the bible that describes the end times...Helicopter,tanks,guns,highways,tv,explosions,nuclear weopons...they are all metnioned...And the reason you might not understand it in the bible is because it is confuing because the guy who saw it lived almost 2000 years ago.

Not if you check with better detail you will see that alot of his stuff that he supooivly propicied was written after the fact you will alos notice a lot his his words make no since at all. the bible on the other hand gives excerating detail based on future events that al lot were written 100 some even thousands of years before the event took place only god can predict the future use man to witre it down and put absloute detial in it this proves that the bible is truly diffrent thyen other books

I agree with what you said about cirular logic. I don't use cirular logic. Isaiah 40:22states that the earth is round. We now all believe this. Don't you? You would have to agree, unless you believe it is flat. So there is your first prophesy you agree with. And I have plenty more just like this. You won't be able to disagree - unless you decide to go against proven science.

What good has aetheism ever produced in the world?You may say,what good has religion ever produced?The Crusades were no different from the jihadists of today-destructive.True religion is to take care of orphans and widows,love your neighbor,love God.Why would you argue against these things?Atheism is the root of much pain in the world since,if one actually believed there would be a God to judge them and a perfectly just God who loves them,they would behave differently.

Atheism is no root of anything. Bad people are bad people. We fear laws of the land, which my government says no killing, stealing, etc. Since I fear jail, I don't commit those crimes. Let alone the fact that I do my best to be kind to others. Atheists just don't have any divine power can defend them when they commit atrocities. Whereas in northern Ireland today, Christians are bombing people weekly.

The Bible prophecy is seen in history and recorded in the Bible. Bible prophecy can be confirmed outside of the Bible. I challenge you on any subject concerning the Bible. Not because I am inclined to argue, but I have listened to your video and you are producing a lot of statements that seem true but are actually inaccurate when one looks into them. Atheism gives the person accountability for ones own actions. We do not have an "afterlife" where all our killings and stealing, etc will be forgotten, as long as we announce our love to a dictator deity. Morals are not from "your" religion. "your" religion is from the jewish bible.

Atheists (or "skeptics" as I prefer) simply see an absolute lack of proof for God and mounds of evidence that is corrosive to god.
They are not even on the same level. One is science-based, the other is myth/superstition-based. One is knowledge-based, one is faith-based. (In the end, faith is simply optimism).

That God is imaginary is pleanty of example. Being that his story is written in a book, so is the story of Allah, buddah, satan, Horus, Thor, etc. And the story of a man born of a virgin, visited by three kings, died, resurrected 30 days later, ascended into the sky is far from original (Horus). Horus predated Jesus by close to 3000 years!

That's not evidence. That's an assumption. I could say the same thing about the Big Bang. The cause of it is plain imaginary. Scientist have absolutely no proof besides 'background radiation' which only gives evidence to support a big bang. But who's to say God didn't create the universe this way? You can't prove me wrong. And as far as Jesus, let's just say Christians aren't the only ones who believe he existed. And it's 3 days, not 30.

Myler, the burden of proof is yours alone. Atheists aren't required to prove something doesn't exists to not believe in it. You wish to believe in something, where you have physical, empirical, rational proof, where it can be tested then, go ahead. But, if you believe in something, that defies evidence, where your "faith" is all that's required to believe it is insane. This is why atheists enjoy poking fun at the religious.
