@johnclansang09 nope the bios is basically a catalyst (that runs all the system checks as well) that gets your installed hardware and software to communicate with each other. almost every bios is permanently stored on the motherboard in a special memory that gives the bios its control directly to the hardware.
do those passive heat sinks provide sufficient cooling ?
do these xeon processors put out less heat than the consumer market quad cores like the i7's ? coz i am sure as hell those heatsinks you're using wont cool them down enough
@waseem1173 most servers are cooled using channels of air being pumped or blown through them so in order to save space inside the server itself they use passive heatsinks. So really theyre not passive but this cooling method works really well for most server systems and the technology used in xeons has alot more power saving features and overall performance per watt(also refers to heat produced) is alot less per core vs any i7 or less (except the atom of course)
@decimat777 yes seeing the widespread use of such servers everywhere is a great testimony to its success. i have seen in other videos however the size of the two fans installed in a rack to cool 6 or 8 1U server trays. didn't looked like much.
i suppose they either don't mind the high temps or that the server grade electronics is made to withstand those extreme usage conditions given they pretty much run 24/7
Some companies employ liquid cooling on an immense scale too, i have learned since.
@waseem1173 well thats good, as i always say "google is your friend". I remember when server rooms were 90-100F as room temp but now with all these air duct systems built into the racks and/or water cooling theyve been able to make server rooms around 78F :) which i like very much
can a computer run without a bios?
