You mean compared to american "mainstream" films, don't you? There are quite a bunch of american directors who have a very similar, emotional style in their narrative. Take, for example, John Cassavettes. I highly recommend "A woman under the influence" to you. That film is a thing of beauty.
This movie is.. creepy to say the least. Its so different from american films. I don't really know how to describe it
