It sounds like there's a backing track but you are right, he's singing live along with it. Apparently he insisted on singing live whenever he did tv appearances. brilliant stuff!

You could sort of tell his time was up - this is far from his best (his best being "We Will") and he'd never go Top 10 again. He's still underrated by some, though.

I disagree this was a great track. The fact is that times and styles change, that's the nature of pop music. But Gilbert has made some cracking songs with real emotion.
