I've experimented allot with teh 550d lately ... if you want to record slow videos ... or stuff that doesnt move too fast like this woman in the video ... this is a great choice. However if you want to record a race of some kind ... you might get some disstortion from the camera.

As an allarounder this still is a good camera for video :)

Grrr I have a problem with mine :( I have a Canon EOS 550D too and I've tried using the video feature which works perfectly but, I can't get the video to playback on my laptop or computer without lagging and blurring up :( Which player did you use and do you have any idea on how to fix this? @evilbluebear The problem is your SD card. go to the store and they will help you pick out one that can handle recording. (class 6 or higher) :)

@Maniplokius There isnt digital zoom, it depends on the lens for the amount of zoom. If you want a long range zoom buy a zoom lens, and to your question above, there is autofocus on most current lenses, but during video autofocus isnt the best option when filming anything professional, also its focus isn't as smooth as manually just turning the focus ring on the lens which is better for precise and smooth transitions while focusing.

@Maniplokius the standard kit lens 18-55mm can zoom but not my that much, try search up videos on that particular lens to see if that amount of zoom is enough for your needs.. Anything with a range means it has a zoom feature. The rule of thumb is a larger range = more zoom. so a 50-250mm zoom lens means u can zoom even further. I do recommend this camera for professional filming, because if you learn all the features it will look completely cinematic. and....

@KpopPitch (CONT) This camera has so many features for its price point. First off, lenses are important to change depth of field and the width of the frame, and the zoom etc. Every type of filming needs a different lens for the best results (not completely necessary at first), whether it be for sports, movies, tv broadcast etc. This camera shoes in 24, 30 and 60 fps, at 720p or 1080p (you cant do 1080p and 60 fps ) so you can shoot cinematically or in slow motion etc. It has modes perfect for

@KpopPitch color correction, and all that other stuff. To make it completely cinematic ull need a better microphone and stabilizers. So for a complete system to do professional filming you need, Camera + Lenses + Other accesories (batterys, cases etc) + mics + editing etc. So with this camera if you film a bit more casually or not 100% professional, around 1000 usd you will be set, but to be completely professional this camera allows for a $3000 professional filming kit. (TRY TO READ IN ORDER!)

Great camera, it's awesome how cheap it is and how it performs. Super narrow depth of field, great low light perfomance, interchangeable lenses... a dream for the low budget filmaker... add the Magic Lantern firmware, some accesories and you have a 1k$ camera with a 3$k perfomance... It only lacks definition but is Ok for youtube or vimeo.

Hey! Just got my 550d and am gonna use it for filming. I just saw that i cant choose 60fps when i film at 720p, i only get to choose 50fps. What am i doing wrong?

@iDiOTiCiNFANT Press MENU, go to the last options tab (the second yellow spanner), select Video system and then NTSC. Now you can choose 1280x720p60. Hope it works!

I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 and I have trouble finding the best render settings for my videos.

@minitonyhawk it's a problem with editing always. just do some short tests. always match frame size and framerate frist, to your original footage, then experiment from there. try "avchd" on the way in, or "dv" if it restricts your framesize then you're in the wrong setting. try doing test outputs. also try "h.264" for output , it's mp4 hi quality output in mac style coding

At 0:08 when the video goes from unfocused and eases into focus im wondering was this done on the camera while shooting? because when i try focus during filming it takes a good few seconds and the image is going in and out a lot until it gets focused not like in the video. Hope someone can clear this up

@hyrys well i dont have a 550d but im guessing that in the video they use manual focus and just focus slowly until it is in focus, you just need to practice using manual focus. hope this helps. :)
