  • the 70s rule

  • Remember this so clearly - and listening to it now, it sounds like Nick Lowe based his whole 1970s career on this one.

  • JAW HARP, I HAVE SEVERAL.

  • Great song...but......shut them clapping geeks (must be teachers) up!!

  • This is the first band I ever saw live: Isleworth Poly, 1973 or 4

  • Actually roadied for the band in 1977 at the Sorby Hall (Sheffield University) Ball!

    Happy days!

  • One and one is one, because that's how it feels when you meet your perfect match.

  • Groooooooooovie! Far out man.

  • The hand-clapping is a pain in the neck.

  • @ScotRanger1960

If hand clapping is a pain in the neck...you're doing it wrong!

  • ALL THE KIDS CLAPPING ARE NOW FIFTY SOMTHING

  • @Maconda4th no there 48!

  • Saw these guys at the Poole College Dance in 74, great song. Great memories Thanks Lynn !!!!!!!!

  • @Flammazine Brah, I don't remember what I said because it was so long ago but thanks.

  • love this its unique and the jews harp is my favourite bit! and the hairdos!! i was only 12 at the time and the hair and the jews harp made me giggle and bewildered me all at the same time.one on its own and a classic!

  • i love that awkward bit where the recording stops or fades out, and the artists have to try to make it look convincing. at least they could play and write songs upto10 or 15 years after this, now its all done with Lego or something. not sure :)

class pop from the hippies there. great track.

  • there are 4 idiots on this page

  • harmonica my ass its called a jews harp

  • @fritz5134

You dumbass fool. What kind of harmonica has you moving your other hand in a plucking motion? None that's fucking right. It's a "Jew's Harp." Dumbshit.

  • I remember this well i was only 9

  • bad ass riff

  • uhmmmm????? ok

  • not much to it but strangely it works

  • Brings back memories of Wednesfield Grammar School. They used to practice at break times, we never dreamed they would make it back then in the sixties. Also with hair like that they would have been expelled. :)

  • Love all that hair! And what a freaky audience!

  • quality tuuuuuune

  • That brings back a lot of memories:)

  • Where did they get this audience from !! they all look as it they were all hypnotised or they are all high on drugs and what is the guy playing with the striped vest !!! ..nevertheless its a catchy song

Medicine Head well that explains a lot

  • He is playing a jews harp.

  • skin tight penis pants

  • Remember this when I was a teenager but who's the guy with a giant bush on his head ????????????

  • Peter Hope-Evans with a harmonica

  • @fritz5134 - Actually, that's a Jew's Harp, not a harmonica.

  • Comment removed

  • @fritz5134 thats a mouthharp, not a harmonica :)

  • @fritz5134 just to say i think you will find it's a Jews Harp

  • @fritz5134 erm actually its called a jaws harp...... you twang it ...... you suck and blow into a harmonica .... tho he did play harmonica on some tracks :-)

  • @alikat613 it's a jews harp.. i think the name got changed by some to jaws harp to be 'pc'

  • @fritz5134 It's not a harmonica, it's a mouth or Jew's harp

  • @fritz5134 is not a harmonica it's a jaw harp

  • @fritz5134 It's actually a jew's harp

  • The guy with the BIIIIIIIG hair and the mouth gear is none other than Peter Hope-Evans. The guitarist and lead singer is John Fiddler.

  • @mitchyfender @fritz5134 gews harp aksh, maybe a harmonica occasionally

  • @mitchyfender

Ahahahahahha, I'll tell him you said that, that's awesome

  • makes me laugh so funnnnny ;mannnnnn

  • bloody clappers.

  • The clappers actually make a background type

sound like cymbals or something similar it gives

an extra type beat of course not everybody likes

it. anyway its a good song but as I said on another

comment these guys can't add 1+1=1 surely that

should be 2 thats what I was taught at School

  • These guys cant add 1+1=1 surely its2 anyway

    good song ....thanks for posting

  • hate clapping.....why do people do it ?

  • I agree. Clapping blows.

  • Oh, those memories! ' 73 - '74! And MORE than fucking good!

  • I think if you're singing and playing guitar then having a mate in the band to just twang a jaw harp seems a bit of a luxury.

  • OMG i loved this song.Prob havent heard since the 70s.Thankyou for posting

  • I like MH :)

By the way, that gutiarist looks a bit like Edgar Broughton.

  • steve01274..i saw the humour in your comment, you are not alone so ill level the sad ones thumbs down ha...clapping certainly spoils this but its certainly a sound said as trotter says, ive liked it for years and the intro holds time.

  • that intro is one of the best intros to any song, don't quite get the full effect of it from this video

  • fucking good

  • The original track is better than this, there's no clapping over the top to get in the way.

By the way, if you already know the track and think it's 'shite' why did you click on it - is it some masochism kick...

  • So, remind me , who's related to pre combover George Roper ?

  • From Johns website...

When we started Medicine Head, we navigated with our soul-compass, we searched through the love and blood-shot sky for the returning Buffalo, followed where our hearts were leading us, screamed the primeval sure shot of love to pierce the armour of the black blanket night.

And quite frankly, who can argue with that?

  • Fantastic - still remember buying this single.

    Rock on John Fiddler.

  • sometimes a song conjures up the spirit of a period in history..this song although not very famous....is IMHO one of the greatest songs to capture the spirit of the earlier seventies.

    great stuff

  • I agree great song from a cool period in time

  • i think they all have the clap

  • heavy mannnnnnn pmsl

  • Well I still have a vinyl copy of this in reasonable condition. I added John Fiddler as a friend on MySpace too at medicineheadtribe! He still sounds great!

  • Classic, reminds of the old days you know.

  • Fritz5134, many thanks for this - wonderful memories btw, Slip & Slide any where to be found ???

  • Love it! Thank you for posting! xx

does wonder where they got the audience from!

    LoL!

  • Hi John , was always a big MH fan.......actually saw you in 1978 supporting Blue Oyster Cult as a member of the British Lions , but did'nt realise till after the concert when I read the programme that you were a member and the others were all ex Mott the Hoople , what a Dork!!

  • Hi 22WW and everyone, I tuned to E, using two 6ths (strings), no 1st, to create a bigger bass sound to the guitar. Hope this helps! Thanks to all for playing these Medicine Head tunes, maybe see you at a gig, or leave me a message on website message board. Peace, John Fiddler.

  • great song the best I have ever heard medicine head was the best

  • ...and the audience went WILD.

  • Now THAT'S what you call having hair!

  • love this song wow

  • Thanks Fritz5134, Magic

  • Hello, did anybody know how( what Tuning)

he plays that amazing SlideIntro in this Song?

It´s so great and I can`t find it in any Tab-

    Program. Thanks!

  • Where have you been?

I've been typin' "Medicine Head" in the Toob fdorever .

    Thank you '

    Dave Mab

  • one of the best concerts I ever seen and seen tons - Covent Garden

  • 1 + 1 = 1.999999999999999999.

    Where 1.0 <= 1.0 at most.

  • a tune that drifts you through the life,I love it,thanks for sharing.

  • Adore them . . . like floating on a cloud.

  • loved this obscure group from the beatles early days. best Duo ever.Never expected to see a video of them. just made the day for a grateful 67 year old!!

  • Uh, the Beatles had split up a good 3 years before this song came out. But it's an interesting song - John Fiddler certainly looks a lot like John Lennon circa 1969.

  • My claim to fame is my mum's sister was in the same class as john fiddler at wednesfield grammer school, her name is Deta

  • My claim to fame is that Pete Hope-Evans is my uncle :D

  • He always looked so spaced out. When they did "pictures in the sky" on TOTP he looked hilarious, clapping out of time and eyes spinning all over the place :-)

This must be from German TV. The handclapping is so Germanic....

  • He's like that normally xD

  • Mine is that John is my second cousin (at least I think thats what he is (my nan is his aunt))

  • love that guitar intro, not many can beat it.
