The band was a certain point in his life where it was pretty much "Fuck this, fuck you!" Drugs and partying and playing this stuff was the norm. But he's said he's past that now, hence why the Devin Townsend Band/Project were created, to fulfill his new musical desires.

All those Djent bands took Meshuggah's music and put epic/punk/minor-scale singing over it. It sound good but it's nothing compared to how Devin sings over this music. I think he's definetly one of my favourite death/thrash metal singers. When he sings it sounds scary, his voice is so powerful and distorted. Djent band's vocals swing from cookie monster to weak emo-ness. SYL is straight up evil. My favourite scary bands are SYL, Carcass and Meshuggah.
