  • Jesus is my Boss, the pay is alright, but the benifits are amazing, most cant say this but I love my boss

  • "They look amazing!" So I'm going to turn around so you can't see it.

  • Can we wear a shirt that's any tighter Mark? You look a Gay Pride attendee.

  • I am sure this man is a hypocrite and have a hard time even believing he is saved though I will not judge him on that. In one of his books-he shows quite a bit of disdain for fundamentalists. To me he is a 5th column type-when you read what he says-he is the exact same as those such as Bell and McLaren-so he preaches a conservative message-that in itself does not make one right with God. Missional and Incarnational is still heresy-so he likes Spurgeon-how bout the bible?

  • @daveme7 It's so easy to point the finger, just like the Spurgeon haters in this video.

  • "Old books about dead guys" Those are the best kind.

  • Spurgeon was a replacement Christ as all clergymen are (pastors).

  • i wanna add that when he would take a "brake" it wasnt a brake from Christ but a brake from preaching. Im pretty sure he would take a brake to go and be alone with God. I dont know a lot about him but im pretty sure this man was a man of prayer. He just had to be. The reason im saying this is because quote on quote "If you have to take a brake from Christ than you dont know who Christ is" Paul washer has a good story that relates to the quote.

  • @CallmeMell "break"

  • @StrumstickJoe yeah :)

  • This is funny: The Puritans were killing Quakers for talking about peace in public... read the todays article in Chr. today. They killed their own Indian converts because they were afraid after slaughtering other Indians and breaking their word in this.

They are known to have started slavery in America by Using the verse 'The Lord has given us the heathen for our inheritance." You have to not see far to know the were follows of the serial killer John Calvin himself. He killed 58 ,34 women

  • @EXALTEDDIRT Christians are called to encourage and correct each other. If I am depressed, but I am encouraged by another Christian, that Christian helps me to endure. This is one of the good deeds that God had prepared that he should walk in (Ephesians 2), and so ultimately, yes, God has upheld him, but that does not mean that a person did not encourage and uphold another -- even if said upholding was divinely motivated.

  • How did Spurgeon endure, I think maybe quite possibly it could have been because of the Holy Spirit of the living GOD that upheld him with the right hand of his righteousness and not by him trusting in an arm of flesh!...I have never met a false preacher more full of himself in all my years and I am sorry to say that unless Mark TRULY repents, he will not only Not meet Spurgeon, but also not meet the one by whom his natural life consists! Spurgeon upon his lips is like a Jewel in a swines snout!

  • @EXALTEDDIRT Where do you get the contextual evidence in this video for your argument? Driscoll did not deny that God was where Spurgeon received his strength. In fact, he said that Spurgeon's wife helped him through the criticism by pointing him back to Scripture and the promises of God. Also, remember, this video is part of an hour long message and you, therefore do not see the whole context of this ten minute clip.

  • @EXALTEDDIRT

You tread on hallow ground my friend. Judging another salvation. That is left for God, and only God, and your arrogance to make such a claim is astounding. To judge an individuals fruit is biblical, but to judge his repentance, and hence salvation, is not.

  • @EXALTEDDIRT You sound a lot like everyone Driscoll is referencing in the attacks made against Spurgeon. juss sayin. Also, when does he mention that the Holy Spirit wasn't helping Charles? Surely God can use one's wife to comfort her husband when the Holy Spirit leads her to do so. Mark speaks frequently of suffering and ALWAYS preaches that we must endure by looking to the example that is Christ, and that in no way should that contradict the way Mark is saying Spurgeon was comforted by his wife

  • @EXALTEDDIRT

It's funny man, your comment reminds me of the critics of Spurgeon, focused on in this video. Mark does not deny Spurgeon's reliance on God, and this is only a snippet of his sermon; you cannot conclude that Mark's bit here is herecy. Spurgeon was HELPED by his wife, his dependence was not on his wife.

  • Man, this criticism Spurgeon endured seems awfully similar to the criticisms I hear against Driscoll. Hmmmm.

  • So you like Spurgeon because you both are in the same Calvin cult. John Calvin was an axe murderer. He is in hell and you are teaching the doctrine of hell.

  • @saudertim1 Excuse me. But, the doctrines of grace are not part of a cult! If you say the doctrines of grace (the basis of TULIP) are wrong, then you can call all the greatest theologians cultists and all the founding fathers of the U.S.A. cultists. Are you saying the Puritans were wrong--they who feared God and purposely came to America to escape religious persecution? Do you side with Arminius who was obviously a deceiver? It is by grace we are saved through faith! Unconditional election!

  • IF you have the Holy Spirit and you've discovered the Great Teacher then you won't have any man idols like Spurgeon.

  • There is a strong likelyhood that Spurgeon's numerous health problems - especially his gout and depression - were a direct consequence of his fondness for Port Wine (and possibly his cigar smoking).

I am not against moderate alcohol consumption.

The problem for Spurgeon was that it was common to sweeten the less expensive Port Wines with lead sugar / acetate.

Its now well known that ingestion of lead acetate often leads to gout and it can severely affect the nervous system.

  • greaat story

  • I love old books too. My favorite romance novels are those written in the 1920's and 30's. They are clean (no sex, no swearing, etc), interesting, and often written far better than stuff that comes out now.

  • Mark Driscoll is a good preacher, making the gospel acessable to his culture.

he is not perfect, but guess what no man is. stop looking at the preachers and attacking and look to whom they (if they are gospel preaching biblically sound men) are preaching about....lift your eyes the the perfection on Christ Jesus, whom took your sins to the cross that if you trust in him and repent of your own sins he may grant you to be born again.

    -paul

    romans 12:2

  • @THORVALHALLA42 The Gospel can never be accessible to culture and they are always opposing forces.

Culture is a product of the world. If we try to tailor it a certain way it loses all power. In fact that is evident in Mark's church. There is no power and it all revolves around him. Church involves every member and has POWER to convict. Read about the Welsh Revival lead by Evan Roberts.

    This is all talk.

  • Hmm so much for that prosperity gospel! The righteous shall suffer

  • Amen

  • Haha. I think he wants to look hip or something. Regardless I admire the guy.

  • I love this. :)

It cracks me up how Driscoll himself gets attacked on the basis of mere fundamentalist opinion & on topics that were the same attacks towards Spurgeon!

Which is even more amusing when the attackers claim to be huge Spurgeon fans.

  • Yeah, and most of those people would never get out of their computers to preach, teach and build. They just say "Mark is wrong, Piper said that, Keller is that other thing". Sounds like "satan's accusational ministries"..... SAM.

  • Hahaha no joke!

    well said

  • @LinkD3

You obviously haven't read many (or perhaps any) of Spurgeon's sermons and writings or you wouldn't draw such a ludicrous comparison.

Spurgeon never chose salacious gutter topics as MD does on a regular basis.

Go read Spurgeon's only sermon on John 3:16 - its easy to find on Google. Then point me to anything MD has done that gets even half way close in terms of edifying preaching.

  • Everyone always thought I was crazy for liking the smell of books..

  • Depends on the book. If you are smelling a book written by [for example] JWs, dont matter how old and leather-jackettted it is, IT WILL STINK.

Wooo, i got 3 comments here, most of it is bo, thats enough. Thats wasted life, Piper would say.

  • @glistergirl Dude, books have just about the best smell on this earth. If they could bottle that I'd use it for deodorant every day.

  • @glistergirl do you use glister?real question.

  • well, i absolutely love you, mr driscoll
