I hasve one of these lenses And they are very good, I'm always afraid of breaking it though it seems very flimsy. Looking thru an old camera box of items I found a helios 44 f2 lens.
has manual aperture and focus and is built like a tank,>I'm waiting for adaptor though and then well see what its like.
Can anyone message me or reply with why a EF lens like this can work on the rebel which is supposed to use the EF-s only? Or I thought that is what it was. Is there a resource that explains this better .
No, the 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 40D, 30D, 20D and 1000D or Rebel, Rebel XT, Rebel XTi, Rebel XSi or Rebel XS, can all take both lens types, for example my Rebel XTi is using a film (EF) lens as it's main lens right now.
It does help so its good to know but doesn't the lens cast an image on the sensor that is larger then the sensor? Obviously you don't see this in your picture you see only what the sensor saw but are the edges distorted etc?
Awesome , that makes sense so then buying an EF-S lens is not really nessesary if say you can get a EF L at the same price , considering you need to do the math, as long as that math works then you could end of with a better lens.....tricky bastards with their ef-s's
i was under the impression that since the focusing mechanism extends the f/1.8 lens, you couldn't use a filter with it.. is this not the case with the 1.8 II?
You can use any filter apart from a Polarizer as you need to turn this filter, to get the correct effect. You would need a Canon USM lens for a non rotating front element.
what!

I'm looking into using older lenses on eos body with an adaptor. The old lenses are very solid with very good optics generally.

djcobolt 3 years ago
Well all rebel bodies are cropped sensor. So you have to multiply the focal length by 1.6.
For example: 50x1.6 = 80
Therefore the focal length is 80mm on a rebel body.
No, distortion is not a problem.

I agree, I was just giving a use of the lens, it is a seriously good portrait lens though, and it has a great DoF.
Check out the photographs in the sidebar -> :)
