I work on river blvd at Lifetouch in the old school building and ours goes off at 11 every friday on the dot. It is funny because I have phone calls saved where the customer couldn't hear the thing, but I could hear it in the recording.
This is a pretty good recording, actually! I live within 1/4 mile of this siren, which is located at Mitchell Elementary, and I hear it clearly every Friday @ aprox. 11:01-11:05am. It's kinda funny the way Muncie tests their sirens-you hear some of them @ 11:00 and then some of them a few minutes later(this SD-10 always goes off late!)Sadly, these civil defense era sirens like the SD10 and Thunderbolt(which Muncie still has a few of the t-bolt 1000 single tone sirens) will be gone someday.
The ones you are hearing first would be Ball State's Whelen WPS-4004's. They tend to sound first. But they atleast not that I've ever heard sound together. And your right we do have a few of the T-bolts left 3 1000's and 1 1000T.
man...indianapois jus had like a $5 million upgrade...all of the old sirens will gone within the next month or so...they will be replaced with the new 2001 sirens...all the old, good ones that have been here since the cold war and WW2 will be gone..its going to be like 170 new sirens...
Yea, that is what it suppose to be. Eventually there are no hills or mountains big enough here in muncie or bfe to support the scenes of the people gathering on the hill top to see the ufos coming. How ever, there is a cornbread road!! LOL!
Nice viceo inspite of all tha twent wrong. I had a similar problem recording our monthly test. 1. it was extreamly windy, 2 my recorder's memory filled up right in the middle of the test, 3. I wasn't as close as I would of like to of been, and 4 the siren I recorded, an Whelen WS 2008, cycled oddly, do to the timer still being set for the old Model 5 it replaced.

Wasn't Muncie the town where "Close Encounters" was supposed to have taken place (before they went to Devils Tower, WY)?
