  • Kepp it up Lil' bro! you got a talent and use it wisley

  • Ok the kid is good. but I am not so sure on him being the next Pert.

  • I take them from Tim too!

  • Much credit and encouragement 4 that young man!! Dylan's got the talent, and I do hope he follows up on his gift!

    Timothy

    :o)

  • neil peart started drum lessons at 3 years old! what you talkin about 14

  • @drummerboi438 No, Neil got a pair of sticks and a pad at 13, then his first kit at 14. Check it out for yourself on wikipedia.

  • @leggobeas actualy you are right e started at 11, but he had a pair sticks and catalogues instead of practice pad

  • @drummerboi438 he played piano for a long time..

    leggobeas is right

  • Not Bad!

  • that little kid just made my skills look like shit hes pretty good and if he keeps it up hes gonna pass up pert

  • Kept good time got a little off but who doesnt

  • Very impressive, Dylan! Try working the hi-hat with your right, and you'll be half-way there on starting crosses.

  • @WriterDude I know. I kept thinking why is he using his left hand. There's only one time Ive ever seen that.

  • Kid's gonna do great.

  • Very cool ! Keep at it kid !

  • geez hope he takes up drumming as a career awesome kid

  • It's really not the age you start at. It's what's in your soul. I started playing at 9, gave it up at 21, and started again 2 years ago at 48. What matters is if you are passionate about playing. Some people have a natural gift to reach greatness, others don't. I don't but that does not stop me from enjoying playing for hours on end. Don't let anything stand in your way and maybe someday you will be one of the lucky ones to reach greatness. Love the video.

  • great job with the off-beat. kids got talent. love the syncopated toms. keep it up!

  • very nice...keep up the good work...but make your own name.

  • Maybe not Neil. But I think Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa is in his future.

  • kid's got some chops

  • wow he just tought me sumthin

  • good beginning:)

  • Nice

  • i'm not sure i'd call him the next neil peart just yet.... make sure he's gonna stay with it for a few more years and doesn't quit

  • Amazing!!! Really Good, you are great

  • Awesome, Loving This!!! You are A Amazing Drummer!!!

  • i wish i had the chance to start that young :(

  • same here, sucks when you want to achieve a career in music but you take up an instrument at 16 years old. I practice like for hours everyday but its hard to make up 6 years of skill and self taught stuff (most drummers i know started at 10)

  • Neil Peart started at 14, so you're not that far off. Keep it up.

  • i started at 10

  • i know what your on about i started at 14

  • The peak of demotivation, totally. I mean, i'm 16 and trying to learn and master the percussion, and a 9 yr old kid plays better than me, than that sucks. But I see that ur kid has a great future ahead of him, cause with that kind of skill I believe he really may become the next Neil Peart.

  • Nicee !!! :O VERY GOOD :)

  • somebody has to take up neils spot when he quits drumming... this kids got a good chance

  • hes got some kick ass beats 4 his age

  • This kid is THE SHIT! He is really good...NEXT NEIL PEART... i guarantee...by the way i HATE electric kits because if yoou hit it on the sides it dosent effect the souunds... but whatever... keep up the good work you are amazing

  • I've been playing drums for over 20 years now, and have to say your son has a tremendous gift. It looks like (through the drums) he is playing open-handed on the i-hat--and that's awesome because it allows free and natural motion around the drums. Congrats on getting him started with good technique and solid tempo.

  • awesome, keep up the good work, you will be amazing in the future at this rate

  • ... speechless...

  • Fantastic! Destroys my bands drummer :P!

  • awesome hes in my favorites

  • for the record, she wasnt comparing this kid to neil peart, but just saying he is developing similar style.

So crazy clown, when you say this kid CAN'T be the next neil peart, and that he's not as goos as him, ,remember this kid is NINE and neil peart has been paying since he was twelve and hes now 56. so a nine year old who has barley has months of lessons will for sure not be as good as neil peart now, but without a doubt become just as good or better if he wants to.keep it up!! your great :]

  • This is very impressive! Very skilled for his age!

  • :55 those are quarter notes not eigth based on the tempo. Think Tom Sawyer hat playing and that's 8th note.

  • Thanks for the comment killugh but...you're wrong.

  • Awsome!!!! That kids got lots of talent!!!!(probably beter than i will ever be!!!)but still he cant be the next neil peart sorry....=( but he is still really good just not as good....sorry if i sound like a jerk but he actually sounds just a bit like neil peart not alot and he is amasing not a canadian leader....but he is still pretty cool!!!!!!!!!

  • Never claimed he was copying Neil Peart. Read the comments.

  • your good

  • HAHA love the face making at the end. awesome.

  • like the set.. pretty jealous

  • damn not bad for only a couple of months of practice

  • Hell Yaaaaaa :-)

  • GREAT JOB Kid, Keep working at it !!!! Sounds Great!!! Do not give it up!!! I want to see more in the future.

  • Nice job young man!

  • Just imagine what hes like when hes 16, or 20?

  • hhahahahahah his face at 2:01 cracks me up

very good drummer for his age though.

  • very nice, defenitely talented for his age

  • you need to get him a real drumset and a double pedal....really invest in this kid hes got it

  • He has a "real" drum set. He actually has both acoustic and digital. The digital kit in the video was what was provided by the school. A good drummer can play on garbage cans if he has to.

  • @leggobeas

So true. A "real" drumset? haha this looks pretty real to me. Its electric. I think by "real" he meant acoustic tho haha.

  • @leggobeas well said!!!

  • @clbgeballe not everyone need a double pedal

  • @clbgeballe good drummers dont need a double pedal to be good. 90% of drummers will show off with double pedals to create the illusion they are talented. some things can be cool on double pedal, but good chops with a single kick beats fast double bass any day of the week..

  • imo, the kid's a savante, let's hope he keeps it up....excellent.

  • good job kid

  • he rocks specialy as a lefty

  • ill give that dude props for having guts to play in front of that many people. it took me at least til i was 14 to play in front of ppl. good job!

  • keep it up kid...you r badass for your age...

  • Nice kid. You got some real kick ass skills!

  • cool

  • Your kid's got mad skills. But considering that he's nearly ambidexetrous (sp?), couldn't he be the next Bun E. Carlos?

  • VERY NICE! My son is only 2 but plan to get him into the drumming too....watch some buddy rich & start him on working more of the one-hand drum roll!!! He'll be a star for sure! START THEM EARLY!!!!!

  • Speaking of Buddy Rich...have you seen the video of his solo in West Side Story in half time? Absolutely incredible stick control!

  • YES! and Buddy rich is just the best all around...PERIOD...Joey from Slipknot is good with his feet, but can't match the stick handling/control of Buddy rich...maybe Neal Pearl comes close!

  • lol i would kill to have that set, good job dude!

  • yeah i know that is a pretty sweet SET

  • he's is astonishing considering his age but he doesn't play like Neil Peart. Keep rockin' little dude8-)

  • Thanks for the comment. Never said he plays like him, just that he can be as popular as Neil (read the video info).

  • Well done... for a kid that age I am really impressed! Glad to see people are still trying in life. =D

  • This kid is freaking awesome. We have like the same mode of playing. I made up a beat that kinda goes like that. Keep practicing kid your gonna be awesome.

  • The boy has his shit straight! Nice! At 23 I can't drum for shit.

  • Aah, so refreshing to know that honest to god GOOD parenting is not dead! Embrace that ability, no matter how loud it gets! And really, not even a year playing? Hard to believe but awesome if it's true. One last thing though - get the kid on REAL drums asap! The sooner he gets the feel of real skins and metal the better he'll be in the long run. Good on you guys...

  • Thanks for the nice comment 2thinkslow. He started in August 2007 and this was shot at his recital in December of the same year. BTW he does play a real set (Gretsch), this was the set they had at the recital. I will soon update with a new video of him playing an entire solo based on triplets. Does some wicked fills a la Dave Weckl, Gene Kruppa and finishing with some very fast bass drums (single foot) a la Lars Ulrich.

  • Not bad for a nine year old

  • omg!! that was awesome! i think he should try to play Wont Get Fooled Again.. by the who.. i can play that on the drums.. and it is soo fun! i think he should try it!

  • jeez, he can play lefty and righty. i cant even do that and ive been playing for a while

  • HE GOES TO MY SCHOOL

  • damn kid, keep it up your incredible. i cant believe your only 9. you might actaully be famous someday. your really good

  • The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first drum hit.

  • not bad preity good

  • This kids got sick rolls, I bet some drumline in a Marching Band is gonna love him!

  • pretty good!

  • Kids got better timing then half the drummers out there. That was the first thing I learned.

    Good job....

Wow, I though he was in the living room even better kid. :)

  • niel tommy lars look out 9 year olds r taking over this century

  • the kid kinda even looks like Neil! O.o

  • great

  • HELL YEAH KID! YOU GOT THEM CARTER BEAUFORD HANDS!!!!

    Keep it up

  • Amazing job kid. I'm 12, and about as good as you. Great job.

  • that was awesome. not the next neil pert but damn pretty close

  • It's Peart not pert

    Great job dude-WATCH OUT NEIL!!

  • Great Time and Great rhythm! Clean fills! Lessons and teachings account for quite a bit, but sometimes you can't just teach talent. This kid is off to an awesome start to possibly an great career in drumming if he wants it.

  • oh, excellent

  • Hey, kudos to the kid. He must have a great teacher and just absolutely love what he's doing with a real passion to be that good at 9. He's sure better than I was at that age (partially because I only played piano at 9 lol).

  • it's not neil peart but damnit it's a start, and it's really good.

  • there can be another neil peart. theres quite a few drummers who could give him a run for his money. but using the same techniques as him would take a lifetime. im self taught too, am lefty but sometimes beat the hihat with my right hand. and yes i switch my drums around so hi hat is on the right. i only take private lessons for marimba, rudiments, right handed trapset and to control my volume because im a power drummer. but enough about me, this guys got it going for him in the future, man!

  • i wish i could play drums like that

  • Atleast he beats Lars Ulrich LOL

  • omg is this in cambridge because then the drum teacher before this kids i was one of his students if you ever see him (his names vic)and mention one of his students lefty he should remember

  • nope...it's in Markham. Teacher is Tim.

  • That kid is crazy good for his age. I really hope he keeps with it, who knows how good he could be with more experience.

Also, to slipknot95maggot, he will not be the next Neil Peart. nobody will, regardless of playing ability. Thats not to say Neil is some god that's untouchable, but there will never be another person that quite has his style. Same goes with any other drummer.

  • nice job youve got a future drumming mate

  • kudos to the kid if anything he will be a techno go with those skill on that electric kit

  • Nice job kid. Keep practicing. Nice kit I own a Roland 3.

  • neil peart=maybe

    travis barker=yep

  • needs moar cowbell!

pretty cool, especially for a 9 year old.

  • neal pert im sorry but no..... a great possibly famous drummer most deffinatly YES! keep up the great work and support his talent good work kid!

  • Another Neil Peart? Probably not, but this kid is really great!

  • Excellent!!

  • woww! this kid really has talent!

    another Neil Peart? nahh..

    i'd say another great drummer!

keep up the good work, please keep practicing!

this kid has a lot of talent and it CAN'T be wasted

    and support him please!

  • shit for a 9 year old hes prettyy goodd keep him playing and he'll be amazinggg by the time he's 20

  • the kids good, but i think its fair to say that there will never be another neil pert, ever. but keep playin kid, your really good for that young age

  • pretty good. nice rythm

  • WOW, that rocks, i'm 14, ive been playing 3 years, I have a sweet drumset with no lessons under my belt and hes as good as I was last year, and I was 13. That just goes to show that just because you are young doesn't mean you suck at someting.

  • good drumer

  • Damn dude! Dylan got talent 4 sure! If u keep it drumming dude ur might be the next Neil peart =] who knows? Good job though!

  • hes got some skills! if he keeps it up hell be really good. Ive benn pklayin for about 5 years now and hes playin better than i did after my firt year thats for sure

  • Good job, Dylan! I'll come visit some time and you can teach me something.

  • u r right. my friend and i are aspiring drummers for are age. we're older than him and just slightly better keep on drummin dude!

  • I'm 14. And i've been playing for 4 years now, And he can play better then I could after my 1st year..lol

  • the kids good. hes lucky he gets to start at a young age. i wish i could have started earlier then i did.

  • Keep on drummin' dylan

I want an electronic kit too!!

  • nice job

    electric kits are cool

  • nice this kid is nine the guys said, he can keep a beat better than me and im 13

  • Nobody will ever be like Neil Pert. : ) But he's all right.

  • Rock on Kid! Thumbs way up for you! :-)

  • your from canada?? high five!!

  • i wish i was this good i suck at drumset i cant get my hands and feet moving at different times. im ok at the other percussion stuff tho

  • wow i wish i had started that early, he's gonna be sooooooooo incredible when he's older, he will melt faces like no other. haha

  • That's some excellent control on the single-stroke rolls.

  • Dylan , you are amazing...!!!Keep drumming .I give you an A++

  • That's insane!

How old was he when he started?

  • wow, he's amazing

  • I definetly agree with you. He should be an excellent drummer.

  • Just want an autograph while I can get it. Don't let your Dad slow down your career.

  • GUT BUSTING

  • Nice drumming dylan!!

    AWESOME

  • hits em good and hard! You go kid! Rock ON!!!

  • Dylan, you ROCK!!

  • OMG...this kid is awesome!
