The word purgatory is latin for fire. The Bible says that it is a wholesome thing to pray for the dead, "so that they may be loosed from the pains of their sin." why pray for them if they are in heaven? and if they are in hell, will praying for them do any good? obviously there is a purgatory.
The Catholic Church is the One True Church established by Jesus Christ this generation says "this teaching is to hard" so we look for what ever makes feel ok about our selves....faith without repentance is dead.
While on earth everyone must be SANCTIFIED in the Church of God and not in the Roman Catholic Church.
1Co 1:1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
1Co 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
Porgatury is not in the bible because there are only two destinations, HEAVEN and HELL.
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
God is perfect love and justice, he would not allow you to enter into eternal kingdom without complete purity of soul. It is against who he is. He must go through a period of purgation in order to be made clean, for nothing unclean will enter heaven (cf. Rev. 21:27).
The word Trinity is not in the Bible either! In both the Old and New Testament. What a silly argument!
The concept of purgatory IS mentioned in the bible, both in the New and the Old Testament. 1 Cor 3: 11-15 is in one place, but it's allover. To those who say this video represents what Catholics believe in, it does NOT. We believe that Catholics are saved through Jesus, but we must continue with Him. And sometimes we need to still be purged before Heaven. So we go to purg first.
As the product of 24 yrs of great R.C. education, culminating in a graduate degree from Cath. U.of A., ordination & a teaching position in a seminary, I know much better than most what it means to be a priest. But when I found that moving up in the hierarchy meant becoming more and more corrupt, I could no longer be a part of what I had dreamed of being. If you really love God, then Google "Jesuswouldbefurious" (one word) to learn what the Catholic church's "inner circle" is all about.
I don't believe you ever were a priest; please post some details of your training (where you went, who your bishop was, etc. etc.) This sort of data is easy to check.
A false preacher is a preacher that teaches something which is not in the bible. If you believe that there is PURGATORY then you are listening to a false preacher. Now if you are a preacher and convincing innocent peoples who does not read the bible then you are a false preacher and an enemy of God.
Biblequest, Where then is the word bible in the bible? Jesus assures those who believe in Him, that if they do NOT forgive others from the heart, they too will NOT be forgiven by the Father. (MAtthew 6:14), and to those who have been shown mercy, but have themselves NOT shown mercy to others, "These will be thrown into the prison and NOT released UNTIL all their debts are paid" (Matthew 18:35)
Bible is from Greek word biblos meaning 'book'. It comes to us from Greek through Latin 'biblia' and then through an Old French word to become the word 'Bible'. Bible or Biblia means a compilation of books
In Rev 22:19 you can read the word biblos or book.

This man must first answer his own question. Where is the word bible in the bible? Jesus assures those who believe, that they who do NOT show mercy, then "these will be thrown into the prison and NOT be released UNTIL all their debts are paid." (MAtthew 18:34)
May I also throw in Luke 12:47,48? "The slave who knew his master's wishes but did not prepare to fufill them will get a severe beating, whereas the one who did not know them and who nonetheless deserved to be flogged will get off with fewer stripes". Matthew 18:34,35 "The Master handed him over to the torturerers 'til he paid paid all that he owed. My heavenly Father will treat you in exactly the same way unless you forgive your brother from your heart".
In Maccabees, an Old Testament book that you Protestants rejected to suit your disbelief in purgatory.
The Jews not only beleived it form Maccabees but also they have a feast day in their worship to this day called the Day of Atonement where they pray for the dead.
Revelation21:27 - nothing unclean shall enter heaven, Hebrews 12:23 - All in heaven have been made perfect, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 Fire will test each ones work. he will be saved but only as through fire, Luke 12:41-48 There are different degrees of punishment after death = Purgatory. The word was coined in the year 600A.D.
The "proof" is, there is no other Church BUT the Catholic Church. The Church of the scriptures took the name "Katolikos" or Catholic in the year 110 AD, only 14 short yrs after the last book of the NT. This name was given by Ignatius of Antioch, A Bishop in the Church. There is but ONE Church, not 40K!
If "The Church" teaches it, then it's 1st revealed by GOD. Do you even know "who" compiled The Bible? Where did the name come from? Who "decided" which books were to make up The Bible?
Soldiers of Roman Empire crucified Jesus in the cross. Now think of this
The Roman Empire became Holy Roman Empire and later they call themselves Roman Catholic because they have gone in the whole earth or universal. Catholic means universal. It was prophesized in the book of Daniel
Dan 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the WHOLE EARTH, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
First Jesus gave his life freely. Second the soldiers crucified him no doubt but you leave out the why. Was it at Rome's request? did Rome bring him to judgement? I thought it was the Jews? Your Biblequest needs work
Well you could say where does it say Rieke in the Bible is wrong, well rieke is not in the bible, but we know it is wrong. Just because the word itself is not in there, doesn't mean the place doesn't exsist. All souls have to accep Jesus to be saved and b cleansed of all(ALL) sins and inperfections to enter heaven. The only Souls who will go to Hell will be those who reject Jesus, Sin against the Holy Spirit. Dieing from this world, is the body dieing, Soul is cleansed on this age or next.
The word Purgatory is not found in the Old or New Testament, but neither are the words Trinity, and Incarnation, however, the concept IS IN BOTH THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS.
1 Corinthians 3:14 14 If any man's work abide which he has built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Purgatory is false doctrine. Some Catholics try to justify teaching it by quoting scripture that says "nothing unclean can enter Heaven". They take the great leap that we are unclean and so purgatory will cleanse us to make us acceptable. This is a tremendous insult to all true Christians and to Jesus Christ, who was nailed on a cross to make all His people CLEAN and fully acceptable to God when we die. Purgatory is a false doctrine and it is NOT based on scripture.

If you type in ´Trinity´ or ´Incarnation´ on your online bible...Oh dear! They are not in the bible either!
Yet, they are clearly very biblical concepts! So is Purgatory... JUST READ PROPERLY!
