great show, great memories..My mom even remembers this. You dont realize how quickly your childhood passes. Try to let kids be kids. They mess up sure, teach them the right way, but let them be kids.
Wow, I just got goose bumps seeing & hearing this. Used to watch it as a kid, on CBC or PBS in WNY. Thanks so much for posting it. Hey, something is driving me crazy. Does anybody else remember Big Blue World? "It's a Bigm Blue World.....after all....". Can't find anything about it anywhere! I think it was just a segment to another show I can't remember.
My cousin Gem used to sing this song to her son when he was a little toddler back in 1978. She had the words wrong though LOL, but I thought the song, especially the melody, was so precious and pretty. Thanks for posting this!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. The theme song for this show has been stuck in my head for the last 30 odd years and I can finally hear it from outside my head again. Caloo, calay!
Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings is a children's animated television programme, featuring the adventures of a young child named Simon, who has a magic chalkboard. Things that Simon draws upon the chalkboard become real in "The Land of Chalk Drawings", which Simon can enter by climbing over a fence near his home with a ladder, interacting with his chalk drawings, including his chalk-drawn friend Henry.
not true - i watched this as a preschooler (circa 1992) at my local library in western sydney. it was on an old projector. fantastic to see this quality piece of education online so many years later.
Stories often revolve around the unintended effects that Simon's drawings have on the Land of Chalk Drawings, such as when an upset Simon draws a picture of his angry self, which proceeds to go on a rampage.
The programme is based upon the writings of Edward MacLachlan. It was produced in 1976 and was originally a 5 minute programme airing around tea time in England. The programme also became familiar to American audiences in the 1970s when it was featured on Captain Kangaroo.

This boy is not using healthy coping strategies. He has delusions of grandeur.

Randomness begets randomness.
Apparently this never made it to Australia.
