Thank you so much for posting this clip. Top Hat is my favorite favorite movie, and this and "Isn't It A Lovely Day To Be Caught In The Rain" are my favorite numbers. It's a shame how many people aren't familiar with this film. Love Fred Astaire!
Fred Astaire sings this in a later recorded version that is now on audio disc. If you're interested in finding later sung recording by him on CD, look for Fred Astaire's Finest Hour. You can generally find them at Border's Books.
Fred Astaire was just the best and that goes without saying! I want to pay a mini-tribute to the wonderfully funny and talented Edward Everett Horton (1886-1970). His "double-take" was priceless and he appeared in over 200 movies(besides the stage and later television - even cartoons - remember "Fractured Fairy Tales?") in his very long career. Ginger R. wrote that Mr. H. was very much like the characters he played in the movies, and he constantly broke everyone up - a quiet sort of humour.
If I was Horrace I would be so terrified that my host takes four minutes to have elaborate, alcohol driven tap dance... Even after he left Ah well four minutes well spent.
He's just the most rhythmic person I've ever seen! I love when he escorts Edward Everett Horton to the phone then punctuates the walk with a stomp as he goes back to dancing! His dancing has wit and cleverness, if that makes any sense...
I also love it when he smacks the air at 3:16. An expression of pure enjoyment, that :)
Top Hat is definitely one of their best movies ever! I love everything about it - the acting, the writing, and of course the dancing. So good!

The thing about watching Fred dance is that he makes it look so easy when what he does is anything but.
"You know how wives are."
"No, I don't. How are they?" LOL

I love this whole scene it is hilarious. I like when the tile falls off the ceiling right next to Ginger.
And Fred Astaire is too adorable with his little bow tie! :)

If you laid Fred Astaire out on big piece of paper and traced around his body, you would have a perfect pattern for a suit.

Wouldn't it be grand to Time Travel to his heyday? That would be so stunning! He is a dream...
Absolutely Happy Birthday, belated by me, thank you for the reminder!
