  • Amazing

  • No words could explain how I feel when I hear this tune....just want to thank God for giving us Pharoah...Amen

  • The energy of the infinte love from the mother and father spirit. this is my first time listening to the pharoah. i beleive in master status and this my friends is a master. im still working at the beginner level but i beleive that we can connect with our thought adjusters to give an endless amount of insight and teachings through one's music. i know of john coltrane, lee allen, eddie lockjaw davis, coleman hawkins, but the pharoah takes it to the next level. evolution of mind and spirit

  • While conveying a sense of harmony and acceptance with the universe, this beautiful music makes me want to be a better person and to treat all others with love and understanding.

  • Yes! We may we all have freedom! Thank you Pharoah -- have loved you forever! Thank you Vicki and Dee Dee for those awesome vocals! Peace & blessings all!

  • This is some supreme piece of music, God ! The piano itself is a piece of caviar, but this saxophone above is unreal.

  • Hugs Pharoah! Keep it up forever man... all the best in the coming year! Hope to see you again s-o-o-n!

  • The feel of this vibe intrigues me.

  • @AdamandtheMole I was thinking the exact same thing as I scrolled down the page.

  • I was just checking Sanders out after hearing how he influenced John Martyn so much, I assumed it would be good Jazz and that I'd leave it at that, but I am blown away, this is absolutely fantastic. So glad I looked him up now.

  • Pharoah has one of the most beautiful tenor sounds ever.....so melodic and rich. That's why the man was and is a giant. I've always loved his playing. Only thing here is I wish the singers hadn't upstaged. Eddie Henderson's great solo.

  • WORD

  • Just Class! simple as that!

  • @Hgclaw You're probably right. A lot of the better modern musicians nod to the awesome music of this era.

  • This is awesome.

I swear, additionally, Common's song, "Be", must be a nod to this at least by way of its chord progression -- or I'm crazy.

  • Yes, Yes, Yes, Amen, Amen, Amen! Such a distinctive scream for freedom, manhood, womanhood, personhood, Amen, Allah, Jehovah, Yaweh, Jesus, Heru, Ausar! So many names, so many ways! Aungk, Om, Aungk, Om, Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Hum Allah, Aungk, Om Shanti, Allah, Jevohah, Dance, Sex, Music, Hip-Hop, Be-Bop, and on and on, the beat don't stop til' break of dawn! and then continues, may the force be with you. The force is with us. Evolution, Revolution, Evolution! Change, Adapt, Homeostasis, I AM!

  • Wonderful

  • TOP TOP TOP TUNE

    one of my absolute favourites....

Danced to this one back in the day @ the Royal Oak Tooley St!

  • This is quintessentially the track that is associated with Pharoah Sanders and quite rightly so. This piece carries so many hopes and desires of the highest ideals of all humans and manages to do just that in musical form. This is a cry for hope, love, forgiveness and peace and is unsurpassed in terms of dexterity of playing and capturing the heart in the music of the soul for its simply that and doesnt pretend to be anything pretentious. A tribute to the human spirit. Amen.

  • @Sal1675 I totally agree with you Sal. I love this song! Thanks for sharing it with me some months back.

  • @TheCalebson I love this cut!!! Full of Passion!!!

  • I wanna get the master tapes and remove the Burt Bacharach vocals. Pharoah don't need no enhancements.

  • @nevikmoore so true!

  • I break out in goose bumps

  • @akiemurad1999

    peace and love

  • @lowgrau Same to you

  • @akiemurad1999 So true!

  • What a tone!

  • Christian Vander's Offering did an amazing version of "You Got To Have Freedom"! :D

  • I love the way he comes into a song with an emphasis on tone and emotionality when others are demonstrating technique. And it all swings like the clappers too. Wonderful.

  • I agree that the original is the best but the singers add another dimension to the music. Gotta love that the great Bobby McFerrin is on here!

  • No disrespect to Pharoah, and the amazing music he produced...I love the concept of freedom in music, and I want the musician to play whatever he feels like...but the singers in the background sound very unfree to me. I can imagine the singers taking it to new levels as well.

  • watch?v=-8B6oYvCtMU check dis out guys

  • @rickylascaze001 Dj Deckstream used that sample too: /watch?v=IfvQnVvTsNk

  • @01Dani10 *but the original is still the best :D

  • So prolific. I love all Pharoah's back catalogue

  • damn, I just heard about him today and haven't stopped listening for an hour. This is pure genius.

  • all i need is a sax and i've got all the freedom i need

  • That piano player is insane

  • That's John Hicks, man! Pure genius!

  • I can't decide if it's pure genuis, total genuis, or utter genius, I love Pharoah's playing, but John Hicks' opening solo is the best part of the tune for me, sound perfectly formed and executed.

  • @flybynight420 i think it's john hicks

  • @flybynight420 sounds a bit like michel camilo. the whole piece is brimming over with life

  • wow, dopeness galore is a dope label! they keep the old jazz spirit alive, check out the last recordings of chet baker!! i love it!

  • i'll sing along with you.

  • @David19225 You've got to have freedom, You've got to have freedom....You've got to have peace and love. You've got to have peace and love.

  • Real Music! Always a pleasure to hear Pharoah because he brings back so many pleasant memories. This is when music was music!

  • I remember dancing to this in the jazz clubs!!

  • Hey bratmeister...you are so right on the money brother. This is a wicked Jazz Dance track ....more of an abstract, modern sense. I am thinking like The Barbican, Royal College of Arts, SOuth Bank kinda choon - YES ?

  • More like the electric ball room or the Freedom Bar each Month with Perry. South Bank and Royal Collage of Arts is so far away from the heart and soul of this music!

  • Yeah you are right mate.......of course, of course, Camden Town !!!! I was just thinking of from an abstract, fusion with English modern art places thats all.

  • Comment removed

  • Great Tune,

  • how did he play those harmonics on sax?

  • he overblows his reed producing something near a growly harmonic thingy.... its hard as hell and sounds great

  • 1970 - Africa version is better.

Touches The Soul....I wanna go here some LIVE jazz now

    Love It ~ Grt Post!

  • Me Too...let's go!

  • Amen, Pharoah.

  • spiritual.if coltrane is alive now,

he also played like sanders.great performance.

  • More like Pharoah plays like Coltrane. I guess you were relaying the fact that there styles were/are very similiar. You're right, very spiritual. Pharoah played in Trane's band and was very influenced by him greatly as you probably know.

  • I disagree. I think Sanders is a genuine and deeply soulful player who expanded on Coltrane's direction and, perhaps, improved on it. John Coltrane was certainly an amazing innovator in his time, but Sanders' playing elevates these songs in a way that was true to HIS slightly later generation. In the same way that it is said that Albert Ayler inspired Coltrane's later playing, I think Pharoah Sanders found his own very beautiful voice.

  • My Inspiration

  • beatiful

  • Very nice information. Thank you.

  • Simply Amazing Song.

  • The " trumpet player " is actually

    Eddie Henderson on FLUGELHORN

Another high quality, killer from The Pharoah !

  • who is the trupet player?

  • who is the trumpet player?

  • I think it's Eddie Henderson.

  • thanks a lot
