  • A talented artist indeed!))) (I haven't heard of "Plop" before) Creation like this is worth to be refreshed in people minds :))) And, by the way, the music is cool too)))

  • @Ilonaakimova Thanx! How did you find this video?

  • @RevSpike Thru The Universal Underground Video Bank's e-mail )))

  • @Ilonaakimova Excellent! :D You may want to type "Basil Wolverton" into a search engine to see more of his stuff. Amazing talent, he was!

  • I have a huge collection of underground comix, so I'm astounded that I never heard of Plop. Great montage, and pretty fine music, too! I'll watch this over and over again. I wish there were more videos of this quality here.

  • I can remember some of the stories even today (and I was probably 8 when I first saw Plop back in Brazil)

  • thumb up if you found this by typing in plop in the youtube seatch bar.

  • @greenlemonstudios Thanx! I need to do more of these. seriously. I know theres a download link somewhere online to get awesome scans of ALL of these - and I mean ALL!!!

  • My favorite artist! I wanted to buy some issues of PLOP! just for his art. Plus horror anthology is awesome.

  • @mescatraz34 who - Basil?

  • @RevSpike Yeah Wolverton. I love MAD and when I started collecting issues of it, I remembered reprinted articles by him in MAD classics that scared the crap outta me, and realized that any art that was unintentionally THAT frightening couldnt go unnoticed. So yes, in conclusion with that rambling comment, Basil Wolverton is my favorite artist.

  • @mescatraz34 I prob mentioned this in other comments (??) but I rew up on Mad in the 70s, and, yes, LOVED Wolverton... Years later my buddy interviewed his son Monte. I HAD to go with him. It was in the home of a fellow who owns the the largest collection of original Basil Wolverton works ever! Framed stuff on walls PLUS a stack at LEAST six inches high of stuff in plastic protector bags!!!! I was nose to nose with originals i grew up drooling over! Talk about WEIRD!!!!

  • i bought plop #8 in 1974 from a news kiosk at the bus station in colchester, essex, uk. it cost 6 pence.

one of the stories, by don edwing and dave manak was about a supermarket employee, disgruntled by the store's new slogan "we're always working for your WOWEE!" (which was what they were supposed to impress the customers into saying) but every time he did something spectacularly helpful, the customers would say "gosharootie" or other things that manifestly weren't "WOWEE"

    sad story.

  • ive yet to re-read them all. very funny story!

  • Nice tribute piece... I remember purchasing "PLOP" #1 in 1973 when I was eight-years-old... It created a life-long fan of Wolverton, Wrightson & Aragones... As a series, it remains amongst my favorites (esp. 'cause of the covers)... Some time ago I collected all five of the cover based, mini-busts produced with the o.k. of the Wolverton estate... If you can find them they're well worth the price... I would love to see a color hardbound edition of the original series.

  • Hey, I have every issue that came out.

  • Good for you!

I need one of the last 4.

Do you have the little digest-sized collection? (I should have showed that - it's got the Wally Wood baby cover, green border.

  • And i dig this sound its very PROG (appropriate given the subject matter)

  • I HAD ONE OF THESE! my mother was dating this comic book fan back in the day and he gave me all sorts of funny books, I think I still have a few first edition spidermen.

  • Hehehe neat stuff. My 9 year old daughter wasn't impressed, even though I told her they stopped making this stuff when I was her age. Every now and then I find a stray copy at a comic shop that I don't have. Gotta love anything with Aragonés art.

  • Thanx for commenting. Not everyone likes the Beatles, not everyone likes Beethoven, as I always say... Now, if she had discovered it on her own, rather than through their parents - who knows. Also Basil's stuff isn't like other stuff - it's weird and icky, but in a fun way. I wonder what she would think if you read her a bedtime story from one of them, if they'd stick with her... heheheh ;)

  • Ha - just decluttering and found my stash of these. Hmm...reconsidering letting them go!

  • Love the into, feels really nice. Almost like "plop! tv"... ;)

  • The intro? Thanx! Yeah it was the first music I made using the ACID program. The other is the newest.

  • Especially like the animation... ;)

  • thanx - very rough but just a first try

  • My guilty pleasure in the 70's. Still have all the issues. Thanks for posting.

  • [PARAGRAPH 5]

Another thing (the following paragraph is taken from another website):

Plop hatched out of DC's horror stable, and got a lot of pre-release ballyhoo in their pages. It sort of grew out of a plopular Aragones story called "The Poster Plague" (a campus is plastered with mysterious posters proclaiming "Klop Is Coming" -- change one letter, you get the idea), which ran in House Of Mystery (90% sure about that). ...

  • [PARAGRAPH 6]

Well, anyway, I'm wasting a lot of time here waxing on about Plop! trivia. I'd be happy to discuss any of this with anyone.

    Later...

  • Plop was great. Halfway between the underground comix of Rober Crumb and Mad magazine.

  • well both of those pretty heavily influenced me - I started with mad and discovered Plop and of course moved onto Crumb et. al.

Cept upon rediscovering my Plop collection (it's overwhelming) i realized that it was pretty much traditional funny-horror comics. I need to animate some of those episodes eventually. (Can't get my scanner to work - got Plop online - all scanned - lost hard-drive - need to refind and share and use those scans - the whole collection free online, dude!)

  • Fantastic idea. I used to read Plop! as a kid. Still trying to get issue #6!

  • Glad you enjoyed it! I'd like to animate some episodes, too.

  • I'm intrigued now. I'll have to look up more about this magazine. Nice work with the music too :)

  • Cool vintage weirdness. I enjoyed that so much I accidentally plopped inappropriately. Good job!
